La Indolencia de los Filipinos (Reflection)

La Indolencia de los Filipinos, widely known by many as “The Indolence of the

Filipinos” is an essay written by Dr. Jose Rizal explaining the alleged
sluggishness of the Filipinos when the Philippines is still under the control of
Spain. Rizal admitted that at that era, Filipinos were idle yet not by nature but
because of certain causes and reasons. There are certain factors that made the
Filipinos indolent. Long before the Spaniards arrived in our land, our natives
are laboriously transacting businesses with different countries such as China,
Arabia, Japan, Malaysia, and other countries in the Middle East. This has
ceased when the Spain colonized the Philippines. Our natives became indolent
because they lack of unity to fight against the hostile attacks of the
government and other foreign society. The Spain did not establish quality
education especially in agriculture, commerce and industry, and if there has,
the lessons being taught were obsolete and lack resources that will guide
them. Also, if the Filipinos cultivate their own land and own businesses, they
were asked to pay enormous taxes or rentals and were exploited by foreign
rulers. In addition, the religious aspect of the Filipinos were not given so much
attention because the friars themselves are not persuasive in encouraging the
Filipinos to strive hard; instead, they instill in the minds of the Filipinos to
remain indigent because according to the friars, it would be easier for them to
be in heaven when they die. Moreover, the Spanish officials were not good
example of laborers. They reported to their works late and left early without
doing their duties and responsibilities. No wonder, the aftermath of all these
are indolent Filipinos. When we spend our entire lives worshipping such a
cruel and inhumane society, forced upon us by aliens who do not even know
our motherland, we are destined to tire after a while. We are not fools, we are
not puppets who simply do as we are commanded – we are human beings,
who are motivated by our will towards the accomplishment of our objectives,
and who strive for the preservation of our race. When this fundamental
aspect of our existence is denied of us, who can blame us if we turn idle? As
what Rizal said,“an illness will worsen if the wrong treatment is given.”
BAYANING THIRD WORLD
(REFLECTION)
After watching the movie World Third World, many questions haunted my mind. Who is

Rizal? Is he really worthy of being named a national hero? Do I know him well? I'm looking

back onI first met the name Jose Rizal when I was in elementary school. all the questions I

have, one by one I'm sure, he's been an inspiration to everyone of the Philippines from then

on. We cannot deny that Rizal's life is different from the lives of young people today. If we

think about it, his story isn't compared to an ordinary Filipinos because from childhood he

has shown remarkable intelligence and talent that he has grown to cultivate in the weakest

fire in the hearts of his countrymen. She sacrificed her whole life for the sake of giving her

family not only freedom, but also her Motherland. Since elementary we have recognized

Rizal as a national hero. He proved that the pen was more powerful sword. Because of his

versatility as a writer, his works have urge Filipinos to achieve the prospect of justice.

That's a saying, “Putting pen to paper lights is more fire than matches ever will.”Today, only

the heroes who are ready to give their lives for the common people are counted but some

Filipinos are becoming heroes because of their talented talents around the world. We can

say that Rizal is not resting now, but the spirit of heroism he left behind, the writings he

wrote, the life he dedicated remains a lesson to Filipinos to shape the future. In all

development for now, let m be a lesson for us not sacrifice offered by not only Rizal as well

as other heroes. Let us not let our own countrymen become foreigners. Reward Your

COMPARISON BETWEEN THE MOVIE AND NOVEL OF DR. JOSE RIZAL

In the Novel of Rizal had been very vocal against the Spanish government, but in
a peaceful and progressive manner. For him, “the pen was mightier than the
sword.” And through his writings, he exposed the corruption and wrongdoings of
government officials as well as the Spanish friars. Rizal harshly criticized the
Spanish colonial rule in the country and exposed the ills of Philippine society at
the time. And because he wrote about the injustices and brutalities of the
Spaniards in the country, the authorities banned Filipinos from reading the
controversial books. Yet they were not able to ban it completely. As more
Filipinos read the books, their eyes opened to the truth that they were suffering
unspeakable abuses at the hands of the friars. These two novels by Rizal, now
considered his literary masterpieces, are said to have indirectly sparked the
Philippine Revolution. While in the Movie of Rizal The Title of "BAYANING THIRD
WORLD"
