-- Learn and Talk II (New)

I. Goals and Objectives

➢ This course chooses the recent hot topics (news, economics, travel, movie, and
entertainment), guides the students to learn 3-4 expressions, and extend their
knowledge. It also has discussion part to help student practice oral English.
➢ The course aims at building up students’ vocabulary, increasing their phrase
capacity, and improving their reading ability and spoken English.

➢ Teachers are supposed to at least help the students to understand most of the
whole reading paragraph and learn the new words and expressions;

II. In-class Activity Suggestions

➢ Tell the students to preview the material if possible.
➢ Leading Reading: Choose key sentences, and let the students to read after you.
➢ Pronunciation Correction: This is supposed to be all along your class.
➢ English Knowledge Expansion: Including synonyms, antonyms, example
sentences, etc.
➢ In-class Review: Ask the student about the new words or expressions in the
paragraph to check the teaching effectiveness and help them review.

➢ Discussion: The questions of discussion part is supposed to be used for students’

speaking practice and evaluation.

III. General Rules

➢ One material for One Session only (25-minute lesson);
➢ Set teaching plan before every class;

➢ DO NOT just read the material;
➢ Organize your class in accordance with the teaching objectives;
➢ Make corrections;
➢ Give compliment and encouragement;
➢ Make full use of class time. Leave appropriate parts as homework if time is limited,
or give students some extension if there is still time left.

IV. Suggested Procedures

1) In Class
(1-2 min) Warming Greeting
(Evaluate the student’s strength and weaknesses if it's the first class)
(Review last class)
(20-25mins) (Introduce the structure and content of the class if it’s the first class).
Discuss the question(s) provided in the warm-up part
Guide the student to read the article (Lead the student to read / Explain
new expressions)
Ask the student to summarize the article
Discuss the questions related to the article or the topic
Summarize the class
Answer the student’s questions
2) After Class
Assign homework
Provide useful and honest feedback.
