Band printer

A line printer that uses a metal band, or loop, of type characters as its printing mechanism. The band
contains a fixed set of embossed characters that can only be changed by replacing the band. The
band spins horizontally around a set of hammers, one for each print column. When the required
character in the band has revolved to the selected print column, the hammer pushes the paper into
the ribbon and against the embossed image of the letter, digit or symbol.

Band printers can print up to approximately 2,000 lpm and can exist in very harsh industrial
environments, although they are mostly used in datacenters. Band printers and line matrix printers
are the two surviving line printer technologies. Also known as a belt printer.

DOT MATRIX PRINTER.

In 1925, Rudolf Hell invented the Hellschreiber, an early facsimile-like dot matrix-
based teletypewriter device,[4] patented in 1929. A dot matrix printer creates characters by striking
pins against ink ribbons. Each pin makes a dot, and combinations of dots form characters and
illustrations. This is much like a typewriter. Each character is made from a matrix of dots. Dot matrix
printouts often produce lower-quality text that can be difficult to read. In addition, dot matrix printers
generally are noisier than inkjet or laser models

INK JET PRINTER

An inkjet printer is a computer peripheral that produces hard copy by spraying

ink onto paper. A typical inkjet printer can produce copy with a resolution of at
least 300 dots per inch ( dpi ). Some inkjet printers can make full color hard
copies at 600 dpi or more. Many models include other devices such as
a scanner , photocopier , and dedicated faxmachine along with the printer in a
single box. In the inkjet printing mechanism, the print head has several tiny
nozzles, also called jets. As the paper moves past the print head, the nozzles
spray ink onto it, forming the characters and images.
LASER PRINTER

IBM introduced the first laser printer in 1975. Laser printer uses a non-impact
photocopier technology. When a document is sent to the printer, a laser beam
"draws" the document on a selenium-coated drum using electrical charges.
After the drum is charged, it is rolled in toner, a dry powder type of ink. The
toner adheres to the charged image on the drum. The toner is transferred onto
a piece of paper and fused to the paper with heat and pressure. After the
document is printed, the electrical charge is removed from the drum and the
excess toner is collected. The standard resolution in most laser printers today
is 600 dots-per-inch ( dpi ).
