Evaluation

The three essays I chose to display were the Mini Ethnography, Literary Analysis, and

the Photo Narrative Essay. I chose the Ethnography because I really like the language and

descriptions I used in it. I feel like it best exemplifies how I like to describe things and I also

really like the interview portion towards the end. I feel like that paper was accurate to how I felt

when I was at the location and I think my format and presentation was clean. I chose to display

the literary analysis because I really like the argument I wrote. I feel like my take on the story

was just convincing enough to be believable but also farfetched enough so that writing it was a

challenge. I also really enjoyed “Use of Force” and thought the short stories we had to select

from were all really good, and so writing this essay was relatively quick because I didn’t have to

rally force any effort into it. I actually wanted to write about some of those stories after reading

them so this assignment was pretty enjoyable and I’m proud with how my paper turned out. I

chose to revise and showcase my Photo Narrative Essay because I really enjoyed the creativity

and openness that the assignment involved. When I revised it, I first went through and fixed all

of my grammatical and formatting errors. Next I added a few sentences throughout the paper to

better establish my theme, and I also added a paragraph to better establish setting and also maybe

narrow down the theme a bit more. Overall I revised it because I felt the paper needed major

work on establishing what it was I was trying to say. I still feel like I’m far from that goal but

I’m proud of the final product and everything. From these 3 pieces I hope you, the reader, get a

better concept on what kind of writer I am. I still want to better refine my style and have a more

defined sense of writing but this is a good start I think. I feel like what I focus on most in my

writing are vivid descriptions and compelling narratives. I try to keep my writing unique to me

by choosing unique topics. I really want to explore more into creative writing because I want to

improve at using themes in my writing and have more subtle messages tucked into my words.

Throughout my academic career I hope that this improvement happens and that I can look back

at these works and be embarrassed by them in the future!
