PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING 2

Personal Philosophy of Nursing

Nurse is one of the most human professions in the world. A person of this specialty needs

to have certain spiritual qualities, such as kindness, patience, sensitivity, trustworthiness, respect,

mercy and compassion. In addition to these qualities, a nurse should be hardworking, modest,

observing and have a desire to learn new things and constantly improve his skills.

The work of general practitioners largely depends on the qualifications, the proper

organization of the work of nurses and their human qualities. A nurse must have threefold

qualifications: scientific - to understand the disease, heart - to understand the patient, technical -

to care for the sick (Ellis & Hartley, 2001). The nurse should inspire confidence in the patient so

that in her presence he is not embarrassed by any procedure. In addition to treatment, people

need the kind attitude, attention, sensitivity and care that they expect from nurses (Benjamin &

Curtis, 2010). At her workplace, the nurse should forget about herself and give all the main time

and attention to the patients.

The nursing consists of the harmony in combination of the procedures and

communicative influences in the process of caring for the patient, and helping him to overcome

negative emotions. To implement it, the nurse must be ready for empathy, must show kindness,

respect, participation and be responsive (Ellis & Hartley, 2001). However, it is also necessary to

be proficient in psychology and psychotherapy to apply them.

Continuous professional development is an important aspect of nursing. It is thanks to

knowledge, thanks to professional development, due to improving the quality of self-training that

the nurse grows. All these points stand out with particular strength and significance when it

comes to healthcare (Daly et al., 2005).The personal strengths, competencies of the nurse and her

skills, can often be crucial to the patient’s life.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING 3

The ability to understand the feelings of the person and realizing the responsibility to

patients are the main moral characteristic of a good nurse. The ability to train for nurses, their

continuous development of their skills, and growth as professionals with appropriate

responsibilities is very important in the field of healthcare. Being a nurse means to feel the pain

that the patient is experiencing, have the desire to help him and have the ability to ease his pain.
