About Academia Sinica (AS)
Academia Sinica was founded in 1928, it has been a historically global leading
research institution as well as Taiwan’s national academy of sciences and the policy
think tank. Academia Sinica 's 7 current Academicians and 9 Honorary Academicians
are Nobel Laureates, and about 1,000 research fellows and specialists are affiliated

Why study in TIGP@AS?
TIGP is a short name for Taiwan International Graduate Program. It is jointly

organized by Academia Sinica, the most preeminent academic institution in Taiwan,
which in association with 10 leading national research universities, offers 12
interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs.
TIGP@AS provides superior scientific training coupled with cutting-edge facilities

and leading technologies to ensure our students are well supported both academically
and socially. All Ph.D. programs are conducted in English so that candidates can be
fully engaged in the learning and discovery process. Further, the program works very
closely with Taiwan’s leading universities to make certain candidates have access to
the best minds in their chosen field.
Importantly, Academia Sinica offers graduate fellowship NT$ 34,000 (about US$
1,050) per month to each admitted student for up to 3 years, based on satisfactory
academic and research performance. Afterward, continuing financial support is
provided by academic advisors. Additionally, every year, TIGP@AS also holds
Travel Grant Award for encouraging students to join competitive global symposiums
as well as several Distinguished Lectures inviting academic and entrepreneurial
masters including Nobel Laureates. To facilitate students’ quicker adaptation to local
environments, TIGP@AS provides them with free Mandarin language courses at the
entry level, and a convenient and affordable fully-furnished on-campus dormitory.

The test of English proficiency can be exempted for applicants graduated from
universities where English is the primary language of instruction, if the applicant
provides an official certification issued by the university’s registrar office. The
eligibility of exemption is subject to each program.

Summer International Internship Program (TIGP-IIP)
It is a two-month intensive pre-doctoral research training program with 60 available

slots for overseas students only. It provides hands-on training and scientific
experience at Academia Sinica. There are 12 programs which are same as TIGP@AS
12 interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs.
It offers NT$ 30,000 (about US$ 940) tax free fellowship per month and supports half
of round way ticket in economy class. On-campus accommodation is arranged by the
TIGP@AS Office at discounted rates.

National Taiwan University (NTU) is the most comprehensive research university in
Taiwan, with 11 colleges, 56 departments, 134 graduate institutes, over 50

2.4 million volumes and a comfortable atmosphere, the Main Library

NTU offers wide computing availability on campus and provides

Currently, NTU has more than 400 student clubs in operation,

NTU's Chinese language courses are among the world's most popular. You can

NTU Plus Academy: Year-Round Short-Term Programs
NTU Plus Academy allows students from across the globe to receive college credits
while also partaking in cultural exploration and gaining hands-on experiences.
With programs that cover topics from Chinese to natural science, engineering,
biology, law, and global health, Plus Academy has something for everyone. Due to
Plus Academy’s encouragement of travel and dialogue in an international setting,

5. Chinese Language Courses Instructed by NTU Chinese Language
Division Language Center (CLD) and International Chinese Language
Program (ICLP)

The Chinese Language Division in the Language Center of National Taiwan
University (NTU) was established in October 1984. It offers programs on Mandarin
Chinese language training and facilitated research projects in this field.
Currently, the courses include the following：
(I) Mandarin studies program
This program teaches Chinese language to foreign students. The class consists of
regular, paying students and also of exchange students, as arranged by our
International Academic Exchange Center. The terms begin every spring, summer,
fall and winter. The spring, summer and autumn terms last for 12 weeks and the
winter term only lasts for 10 weeks. The courses are offered based on the Chinese

level of each student. Each class is composed of about 5 to 7 people to ensure
that each member improves greatly in listening, speaking, reading and writing in
the class.
(II) Chinese teacher training course
The course is offered to those who wish to learn the Chinese teaching
methodology and practical teaching. The course is open to Taiwanese university
graduates or current Chinese teachers. Four classes are offered per year to future
Chinese teachers. There are about 45 students in each class. Recently, more and
more have been coming to register for the class. To cater to the market need,
more classes will be offered, or more students will be allowed into each class.
International Chinese Language Program
ICLP provides a year-long language program in a Mandarin-speaking environment
which upholds much of its traditional Chinese heritage and culture within the
framework of a modern democratic society. ICLP enables students to achieve
broad and independent competence in spoken Chinese and to develop reading
skills needed for academic research or professional use. ICLP has an audio-visual
room, reference library and computer lab with full Internet access for the use of
students. Situated within the campus of National Taiwan University (NTU), it
enjoys the benefits of a central location in Taipei along with access to the full
range of NTU's academic, extracurricular, and health resources.
6. NTU Plus Academy Programs
 Introduction
NTU Plus Academy (Short-term Programs for International Students) enables
students from all over the world to gain first-hand experience, college credits,

and cultural exploration – all within an international setting based on
academic and personal growth. The academy programs cover topics from
Mandarin Chinese to Leadership, Economics and Civil Engineering. Not only
do these programs allow students to strengthen their multicultural skills, but
they also give them the necessary tools to succeed in diverse environments,
through traveling, dialogue, and hands-on experience in several fields of

11 Taiwan Universities Included among Top 100 in Asia
According to the latest QS Asia University Rankings released Oct. 17, 2017, Taipei
City-based National Taiwan University leads the way among local tertiary
institutions in 25th, followed by National Tsing Hua University in northern Taiwan’s
Hsinchu City in 32nd and National Cheng Kung University in southern Taiwan’s
Tainan City in 35th.
The biggest improvers among local institutions were National Sun Yat-sen
University in southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City and National Chengchi University in
Taipei. Both advanced eight spots to 65th and 87th, respectively.
Other Taiwan universities featured in the top 100 are National Chiao Tung
University in Hsinchu, 36th; National Taiwan University of Science and Technology
in Taipei, 47th; National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, 56th; National Central
University in northern Taiwan’s Taoyuan City, 70th; Taipei Medical University, 76th;
and National Yang-Ming University in Taipei, 79th.

In recent years, NCTU is devoted to helping international students to have the
connection with the industry. “Internship Program for NCTU International Students”
provides an internship opportunity, for junior, senior, master and Ph.D. students.

Advantageous Location in Central Taiwan
NCUE is conveniently located in central Taiwan and adjacent to Taichung City, the
second-largest metropolis in Taiwan, as well as many famous scenic spots such as
the Central Taiwan Science Park, Taichung Precision Machinery Science and

7. Chinese Language Courses Instructed by NCUE Language Center

during Summer (June- August)
7.1 NCUE Chinese Program Summer Session
7.1.1 Program Features
 Small Classes: All classes are taught in small sizes, with 5 to 12
students in each class.
 Various Options: It offers classes from the beginning level to an
advanced level. Students will take a placement test before the term
starts.
 Emphasis: The program places emphasis on all four language skills:
listening, speaking, reading and writing.
 Personal Tutor: The Program will assign a tutor trained by the
teachers for each international student. Tutors will arrange 1-on-1
academic counseling one hour per week free for the students
enrolled in the program.

 Culture Classes: They include paper cutting, calligraphy, Chinese
painting, cuisine, etc.
7.1.2 Eligibility
 This program is open to foreigners who are over 18 years old with a
high school or higher diploma or its equivalent.
 Foreigners living in Taiwan and holding visitor visa or traveling
visa-free to Taiwan, or foreigners who want to apply for a visa for
the purpose of studying Chinese language in Taiwan.

7.2 Chinese and Culture Study Tour
This program includes intensive and professional language courses and
cultural classes. Students will communicate with locals in Chinese daily and be
immersed in a Chinese-speaking environment.
It is for those who plan to study Mandarin or to deepen their understanding of
Chinese culture and art. The program is tailored towards people of all
nationalities and designed for groups of 15 people or more based on their
available study dates and learning needs. These camps have been lauded by
people from all backgrounds as a program with a truly international

perspective. The participants learn about the Chinese language as well as art,
folk crafts and popular tourist destinations. However, there's no limit to what
they might encounter during each camp session. Either groups or individuals

NCUE’s weeklong International Summer Camp Program provides in-class basic
Mandarin Chinese learning and culture courses, and organizes various excursions

3.4 Registration
(1) All admitted students must reply to accept the offer, complete the new student survey and
download the NSYSU Letter of Acceptance before due date.
The admission will be given to applicants on the waiting list if admitted students fail to reply
before due date.
(2) Students with NSYSU Letter of Acceptance must submit the following documents upon
registration:
a. The Highest-Level diploma and transcript in Chinese or English authenticated by the R.O.C.
Embassies, Consulate Offices, Missions abroad or by other Notary Institutes authorized by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C in the country of the issuing university. (These documents
will be returned).
b. Students graduated from a Taiwanese university must submit diploma and transcripts in
Chinese and they are not required for further authentication.
c. All students are required to provide proof of personal health insurance or proof of National
Health Insurance (NHI). Pease be aware that foreign personal health insurance certificates
must be authenticated by the R.O.C. Embassy, Consulate Office, or Taipei Economic & Culture
Office in the country which the student resides.
d. All students are required to acquire "Alien Resident Certificate" (ARC) and submit a copy
(both side) to the Office of International Affairs within one month after the semester has

A. International Program Level : BA
Bachelor Language of instruction: Above 90% taught in English
Program in The international Bachelor Program in Tourism Management (ITM)
Tourism is the first government- founded educational institution in Taiwan,
Management specializing in international travel and tourism related fields. The
program aims to cultivate professional knowledge and essential
skills, curriculum are designed as combination of theory and
practical experience. The features of ITM Program include: entirely
English-taught professional course and small-size classes with
diverse international students.
B. International Program Level : BA
Bachelor Language of instruction : Above 90% taught in English
Program in The International Bachelor’s Program of Culinary Arts (ICA) is
Culinary Arts geared toward the development of students’ professional culinary
skills and global vision in an English learning environment.
Students will develop a broad base of knowledge and confidence
in culinary skills, helping them to move successfully into their food
service-related career. Course work is reinforced through
immediate application of knowledge in practical settings. ICA aims
to prepare students for leadership positions in the food and
beverage industry.
C. International Program Level : MS
Master Language of instruction : Above 90% taught in English
Program of The international Master’s Program of Tourism and Hospitality
Tourism and (IMTH), embracing NKHUHT’s motto of humanity, professionalism,
Hospitality entrepreneurship, and internationalization, aims to become the
cradle of educating tourism and hospitality professionals for
South-East Asian countries. IMTH delivers its courses through
integrating content and language by adopting a CLIL approach to
empower our graduates with proficient language skills and
professional domain knowledge that helps equip them for future
employability and global mobility.
D. International Program Level : PhD
Hospitality Language of instruction :Above 90% taught in English
and Tourism We were approved to establish a Master’s Program in the 2003

Management Academic Year and to enroll students for a PhD program in the
PhD Program 2011 Academic Year. Since the Tourism and Service Industries
continue to play critical roles in the sustainable development of
Taiwan, our targets for research development and teaching are
based on solutions implementing the niche theory behind
tourism, with an emphasis on discussion and research on the
application of management knowledge and skills for practical
operation in the tourism industry, in accordance with our teaching
methods for tourism technology and vocational education.
Therefore, we especially encourage two methods, “Tutor in

Scholarship Regulations
A scholarship holder, during the effect of the scholarship, should keep both the
academic and conduct grade above the standard of 80; the scholarship will be
cancelled on the following semester if the scholarship holder fails to achieve the
standard, should the future performance meet the above criteria, the scholarship

Take the No. 69 Bus, which runs about every 30 minutes from Kaohsiung Train
Station; it will take about 50 minutes to arrive at the crossing of Bosyue Road,
which is next to the gate of the university.

It takes approximately 8 minutes to get to the university by taxi from Kaohsiung
International Airport.

8.1 Chinese for International Degree Students (CIDS):
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) provides for two semesters of free courses in
Chinese for International Degree Students (CIDS) with limited or no Chinese learning
experience in order to help incoming students adapt to the new environment.
8.2 Regular Chinese Classes:
To accommodate different language learning styles, small group (6~12 people) and
individual (one-on-one) classes are offered. The curriculum is designed for a two-year

Currently, there is no degree program taught in 100% English. It is because we hope the
student to learn Mandarin during their study at NQU. Since mandarin has also become
the one of the most spoken languages, we expect our international to be equipped
with such ability upon their graduation. Rather than learning with a language they have
already known. We allow them to immerse in a mandarin speaking environment and
provide them with free and intensive mandarin courses.

5.2 NQU Scholarships
NQU Scholarship for International Students.
The following scholarship applies to all accepted NQU international students.
The scheme will cover half of the tuition and accommodation fee (i.e. you only need
to pay half of the tuition and accommodation), and an allowance of 20,000 NTD is
also included for the first semester of the applicant.
The “Scholarship” should be subject to the regulations of “The National Quemoy
University Directions of the Scholarship for the International Students”.

applicant achieves a class rank of top 50% (e.g. the 1st - 10th place in a class of 20
students) and the conduct grade of 80 points or above in the previous semester,

tuition and accommodation and will also be awarded the allowance of 20,000 NTD).
If the applicant achieves a class rank of top 75% (e.g. the 1st - 15th place in a class of
20 students) and the conduct grade of 80 points or above in the previous semester,
he/ she is qualified to apply for the half scholarship (i.e. you need to pay half of the
tuition and accommodation and will also be awarded the allowance of 20,000 NTD).
Please note that the applicant with a class rank of 75%-100% (e.g. the 15th - 20th place

2. Why study in the OUK
Make Your Dream Come True
Open University of Kaohsiung (OUK) is a municipal university that was founded in
February of 1997. OUK accepts students of all educational backgrounds and does
not require an entrance examination. Providing courses through distant learning
channels, OUK has effectively utilized advanced media for adults who intend to
earn bachelor degrees. Up to now, more than 6,000 students have graduated from
the OUK, and this has made the school an important and distinguished institution
for adult education in southern Taiwan.

OUK has six academic departments: Department of Law and Political Science,
Department of Industrial and Business Administration, Department of Mass
Communication, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Department of
Culture and Art, and Department of Technology Management. In addition to, these
six departments, the school has a General Education Center responsible for all
enrolled students’ education of liberal arts.
Students may select distant courses via the Internet, television, or radio. They may
also choose face-to-face classes held on campus if it meets their requirements. In

addition, to help students’ mobile learning more efficiently, OUK has established
eeClass system during the 2018 spring semester. This allows students to view (or
listen to) on-line courses with an easier and clearer platform. Students may take
courses through tablets, computers, laptops, or smart phones at any moment.
Overall, OUK’s on-line courses aim to make learning free from the constraints of
space and time. Students are free to choose their own approach of study. Specifically,
students at OUK can enjoy academic learning, manage their job, take care of their
family, and fulfill their life goals simultaneously.
Currently, OUK has a faculty of 21 full-time teachers, including 1 professor, 9

associate professors, and 11 assistant professors. Besides the full-time faculty,
there are more than 100 part-time lecturers willing to assist the work of teaching.
OUK offers various and flexible courses for further and adult education.
OUK is a university dedicated to students’ well-being and self-satisfaction. It

provides students with various learning resources to obtain professional
knowledge that enriches their life experiences. In the prospective future, OUK will
continue to be committed to critical innovations, such as promoting teachers’

(1)Feature of Courses
Teaching Chinese with Thai -teaching style aims to help Thai
learners effectively learn Chinese. Courses are leveled into
introductory, elementary, advanced ones. To design courses
intensively and extensively expects learners to be proficient in
using Chinese in Taiwan and know Taiwan in depth. Ultimately,
learners may pass an exam and obtain Certificate of Chinese
Language Professional (CCLP) issued by International

eastern Taiwan helps know more about languages and culture of
Taiwan indigenous people.
E2-Goal: After visiting northern and eastern Taiwan, learners
keep exploring central and southern Taiwan, wh ich helps
knowing more about feature of Taiwan culture diversity. And,
language use for travelling activities in these areas may be more
diverse including Taiwanese, Hakka, or new residents ’ languages.
C: Advanced Courses
A1 (In Work Place)-Goal: Target Chinese that will be taught is
mainly used in the work place such as in factory, company, food

court, sites of service business, etc. The course i s mainly based
on language use required in Taiwan ’s commercial or industrial
arena featuring service business and catering.
A2 (Schooling)-Goal: The course is based on Taiwan ’s university
contexts, which aims to hel p learners with a student status
acquire considerable Chinese proficiency to adapt to living in
Taiwan. Three representative universities are modeled to help
learners gain a virtual experience of Taiwanese university life.
(3)Teaching Methods
All courses are online with digital learning format. There are 72
online lectures for each phase of course. The total number of
online lectures for 6 phases is 432. Without the limitation of
space and time, learners may effectively and efficiently engage
in distance learning by means of digital devices. Such a learning
method may meet individual needs.
(4)IOPCA Chinese Professional Certificates
Open University of Kaohsiung (OUK) is one of members of IPOCA
International Professional Training Accreditation Organization:
a) Enroll in introductory Courses (1) & (2) and pass the exam.
Learners will be issued with a 502119732 (CCLP) Certificate of
Chinese Language Professional (Level -C).

1. Why study in Taipei
Taiwan, commonly known as the gateway to Asia, is an island located off the
southeastern coast of China; to the south is the Philippines, and to the north is Japan.
The island boasts an excellent infrastructure, convenient transportation system, and a
wide array of ecological resources. Taipei is a vibrant and modern city that proudly
preserves cultural traditions of the old days. You can take a peek into the history of
Taiwan through some of Taipei’s attractions like Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Raohe
Night Market, the iconic Taipei 101, and the Sun Yat-sen Memorial.
In Taipei City, you can find historic buildings that are hundreds of years old existing
alongside a modern business buildings. The National Palace Museum houses one of
the largest collections of ancient Chinese artifacts in the world, with most of them high
quality pieces collected by China’s emperors, mainly the Ming and Qing dynasties. The
treasures showcased in the museum easily span over thousands of years. Notable
items include the Mao Gong Ding (9th century BC), the Jadeite Cabbage (19th century),
and the Meat-shaped Stone, which dates back to the 17th century.

2. Why study in Soochow University
Soochow University, founded in 1900 in Suzhou, was the first western-style university
in China. In 1951, a board of directors was created and premises were rented on
Hankou Street in downtown Taipei to set up the so-called Soochow Preparatory School.
As a result of unbending board principles, efficient school operations, and
comprehensive foundation programs, the school has received the Ministry of
Education’s “Teaching Excellence Program” award for eleven consecutive years since
2005.
SU has been a pioneer in international education in Taiwan and the most promising
institution for both short-term programs and exchange programs. Known for The
School of Law and School of Business, the structure and organization of our faculty
team follow AACSB International certification (USA).
Our educational development programs are based on the pursuit of highest “teaching”

Global Business Program (MBA)- An English Taught Graduate Program
The Global Business Program (GBP) is a two-year business program specializing in the
fields of Marketing Management, Financial Management, Operations Management,
Human Resources Management, and Management Information System. It provides
students with modern-day knowledge, proven skills and wide-range abilities to excel in
any international business setting in the 21st century.
In 2007, the School of Business (SBSCU) signed a dual degree agreement with
Thunderbird School of Global Management, a famous educational institution in the
United States widely known for its full time International Management Program. Both
schools jointly offer a graduate level program in both management and global studies.

6. SU Chinese Language Center- Chinese Language Courses
Chinese Language Center(CLC) offers a quarter program with 4 sessions a

year; namely spring, summer, fall, and winter. CLC designs a various types
of classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners. Each class
includes the training of Chinese listening, speaking, reading, a nd writing
skills. Also, along with non-scheduled cultural activities, our program allows
students to experience and explore Taiwanese cultures.
Class hours are 3 hours a day 5 days a week, from Monday to Friday, 15
hours a week in total. The learning hours are regulated by government.

Four quarters in a year with a gap month, August, in the middle allowing
students to explore the beauty and cultures of Taiwan or join our 3-week

7. SU International Programs for International Students
7.1 Chinese Learning Camp
For the purpose of helping international learners obtain Chinese listening, speaking,
reading and writing skills and, at the same time, experience the beauty of Taiwan, local
cultures, and festive attractions, the Center provides Chinese Learning camp to those
who are interested in learning Chinese. Each camp is feasible with 10 people or more.
The camps are offered in January during winter vacation, and July and August in
the summer. Students will be divided into different level groups depending on their
Chinese proficiency.

16 - 22 years old overseas students interested in Chinese language acquisition.

7.2 SCUIP International Programs
Undergraduate and postgraduate-level Curriculum
Every course Soochow University (SU) offers is guaranteed to be

inernational college-level with credits. Language of instruction, course
context and selection of teaching materials all strictly follow the
requirements of universities overseas. We offer courses covering Economy,
Business, Management and Culture etc. and are confident to meet the
needs of students in various majors. Students currently studying overseas
can take courses equal to one semester in their home university/college in

Tamkang University has jointly set up 35 dual degree programs with renowned 22

 11 Taiwan’s universities are among the top 100 in Asia, in 2018 British QS
Asia University Rankings. 31 Taiwan’s universities are among the top 250

The Centre of Excellence in Teaching of Yuan Ze

University and the world’s renowned Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) has collaborated
under the International Education Cooperation
Program. The main objectives of this camp are to
expand students' international perspective, inspire
interest in the field of information science and
technology, as well as to cultivate an understanding
of language and culture among young students.
Participants did not only benefited from the
professional knowledge gained from the MIT
overseas internship team but enriching their lives
through English courses held during the program.

8 . Life at YZU
 Living cost：
One of the delights about living in Taiwan is the abundance of inexpensive and
delicious food. For about NT$60~NT$150 you can taste the endless variety of
flavors. A lunch box meal that consists of rice, a main meat dish, and 2 to 3
vegetable side dishes costs about NT$60 to NT$80. A reasonable food budget is
NT$150 to NT$200 per day. (1USD = Approx. NTD 32).

The best way to blend into the life at YZU is through joining clubs. In addition to

5.2 Scholarships provided in CMU:

5-2-1 Taiwan Scholarships
Scholarships offered by various organizations have different regulations. Please
note that applicants awarded any scholarship are NOT guaranteed a university
entrance admission, and vice versa.
International students may apply for the Taiwan Scholarship offered by the
government. Please check the Ministry of Education website. Applicants may
apply from February 1st till end of March every year at the Taiwan Overseas
Mission (TOM) in their countries or the nearest country in case there is no TOM
in the country.
5-2-2 CMU PhD or Master Students Scholarship
1. PhD students:
China Medical University offers PhD students tuition wavier for 2 years and
monthly stipend 20,000 NT per month starting from September in Fall semester
or from March in Spring semester. Outstanding PhD students can compete for
the monthly stipend up to 40,000 NT.
2. Master students:
China Medical University offers Master students tuition wavier for 1 year.
Outstanding master students can compete for monthly stipend 10,000 NT per
month starting from September in Fall semester or from March in Spring

5.2 FCU Scholarships
FCU provides three kinds of scholarship/financial aid: full-tuition, half tuition or
living allowance for the first academic year.

In an effort to encourage outstanding international students apply FCU
program, international students may apply scholarship/financial aid during
the admission application.
 Procedures
To apply for the scholarship/financial aid, simply tick the
scholarship/financial aid box on the FCU international student admissions

application form. English proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS or TOEIC,
may be waived if the applicants is a native speaker) is required for
scholarship/financial aid application.
Scholarships/financial aid will be issued to recipients who have completed
registration and course selection procedures for the academic year that
the scholarship is awarded. The scholarship/financial aid funds will be
transferred to the recipient’s bank account in October.

8. Chinese Language Courses Instructed by Chinese Language Center
8.1 Various Courses
Our program in Chinese Language Center offers nine levels of Mandarin (1-9).
We place great emphasis on the four language skills: listening, speaking,
reading and writing in all of our required classes. To further cater your
individual needs, we offer numerous electives, ranging from Taiwanese,
Simplified Characters, Business Chinese and Word Processing, to Chinese
Literature, Chinese Philosophy, and Chinese History and Culture, which will
enable you to have a total educational experience that is tailor-made for you.
8.2 Conversation Courses
There is also Conversation Course which emphasizes abilities of listening and
speaking, and topics of teaching are based on ordinary Chinese, and focus on
communication in order to make students apply what they have learned. The
topics include society, shopping, diet, transportation, house rental, culture,
entertainment, etc. With practical topic discussion, interesting interaction and
communication, and familiar atmosphere, students are able to learn Chinese
happily with our professional teachers.
8.3 One-on-One Tutorial
We offer individual classes for foreign full time workers in Taiwan. Once we find
a teacher for you based on your preference time, you may discuss with the
teacher what you want to focus. Students need to complete the course in three
months.

9. PMP (Pre-major Program)
PMP integrates campus-wide resources from Chinese Language Center, Center for
Chinese Language and Culture, Foreign Language Center, General Education Center,
Office of International Affairs, Office of Academic Affairs and teaching and
administration resources from different academic departments. The goal is to
cultivate foreign students’ not only basic Chinese language ability but also
academic learning skills. The program prepares foreign students for the “five
readiness” in their first year so that students can study in their ideal majors since
the sophomore year.

THE PRIDE OF KAOHSIUNG CITY
I-Shou University (ISU) is situated in the Guanyin Mountain area of northeastern
Kaohsiung. The University firstly opened its gates in 1990. Today, with its
continuous development, ISU has 9 colleges, 45 departments and programs, 20
masters programs, and 7 doctoral programs. Moreover, the Division of Continuing
Education also has 14 undergraduate programs, 7 in-service master’s programs

1. Ten Reasons for Thai Students to Study in Taiwan
(1) Top‐quality Universities

11 Taiwan’s universities are among the top 100 in Asia, in 2018 British QS
Asia University Rankings. 31 Taiwan’s universities are among the top 250
universities, in 2018 Times Higher Education Asia‐Pacific University Rankings.
Taiwan’s top‐quality university is highly praised by Thai government. In March
establish its overseas campus in Thailand. NTU is still the only foreign
university invited to Thailand.
(2) Affordable Tuition and Enormous Scholarships

Taiwan’s universities offer top‐quality education while their tuition is
inexpensive and affordable. Generally speaking, tuition for undergraduate
program is around USD 1,500‐1,800 per semester while tuition for graduate
program is around USD 1,600‐2,000 per semester.
Taiwan’s government and universities provide enormous scholarships to
attract global excellent students. Taiwan’s government provides about 25 full‐
scholarships to Thai students. Furthermore, Taiwan’s universities provide
1,200 scholarships qualified for Thai students to apply, including Academia
Sinica’s stipend scholarship of USD 1,130 for each graduate student.
(3) Improving Chinese skills/ Learning Chinese

Living and studying is the best way to learn Chinese, as you will constantly be
experiencing it in daily life. If you study in Taiwan, you can pursue a higher
degree and learn Chinese at the same time.

(4) Talent Cultivation for Thailand 4.0
Thai government is vigorously promoting “Thailand 4.0” economic
development plan to upgrade current industries and develop innovative
industries for driving economic transformation and increasing economic
growth. According to the survey by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office
(TECO), 702 departments/graduate institutes of Taiwan’s 30 universities can
cultivate talents of high technology for the 10 targeted industries of Thailand
4.0.
In order to unleash the advantage of Taiwan’s education and assist Thai
industries to cultivate talents of high technology, TECO will recommend 20‐25
outstanding Thai students for full scholarships provided by Taiwan’s
government to study industrial technology of Thailand 4.0 in Taiwan.
(5) Openness and Freedom

According to the 2018 Freedom in the World Report made by Freedom
House, 88 of 195 nations around the world were classified as free. Taiwan
was amongst these free nations, receiving a score of 93 out of 100 and
scored especially high in the areas of political rights and civil liberties.
Reporters Without Borders' 2018 World Press Freedom Index Report ranked
Taiwanese press freedom No. 1 in Asia. The Taiwanese government continues
to promote freedom of speech as the driving force of Taiwanese democratic
innovation.
(6) Most Welcoming Country with Top‐Quality Life for Expats

According to the Expat Insider of the InterNations, one of the world’s largest
and most comprehensive surveys on life abroad, Taiwan is one of the most
welcoming countries with the best quality of life for expats. For instance, in
2018, 18,135 expats living in 187 countries or territories took part in the
survey. Out of 68 destinations, Taiwan is ranked No. 2. In particular, Taiwan is
ranked No. 1 for quality of life, No. 5 for travel and transport, No. 5 for health
and well‐being, and No. 14 for safety and security.

Love outdoor activities? Taiwan, a mountainous island, offers various
mountain and water sports.
According to a documentary film of the National Geographic channel,
Taiwan’s medical service is ranked as No. 3, next to the USA and Germany. In
addition, Taiwan is highly praised for its outstanding National Health
Insurance System. Overseas students have the access to the insurance
scheme and can visit any specialist in Taiwan if it is needed.

Taiwan's preservation of Chinese culture (including characters) is the most
complete.
