learning

DOWNSIDE:
Daunting and lengthy process, requires
minimum 1 year if you don't start during
MBBS. Much more complex than just 3 exams.
Huge investment in terms of money, time,
energy and emotions.
You will have to stay away from your family.
Feeble to none chances for surgical branches
and dermatology residency amongst few
others.
With average scores you might not match.
Match rate is only 58% after giving all three
steps. So there is no guarantee that you will
get a spot.

SUBJECTS
Tips before the exam:
1. Plan your time frame well and STICK to It
2. Make sure to finish AT LEAST one full reading of FIRST
AID/MTB/KAPLAN
3. Start Uworld along with/ after the notes.
4. Give at least 2-3 NBMEs or USWAs ONLINE.
5. DO NOT solve a mock/ study hard on the last day
6. DO NOT VISIT THOSE SILLY FORUMS !!! EXCEPT
FOR INSPIRATION
7. DO NOT compare your time frame with your peers.
Tailor your own as per your convenience.
8. Sleep (well) before the exam. Carry whatever keeps you
awake! (Beware Caffeine is a diuretic. Avoid heavy
meals/get at least 6 hours of sleep/be comfortable)
Tips during the exam:
HIGHLIGHT as you read(AVOID blind
reading)
FLAG the question for later - AVOID re-
reading the question after answering
AVOID mulling over options after coming to
one option (Don’t try to find the right in other
options try to find the wrong in your selected
option)
STRIKEOUT all other ‘wrong’ answers.
(Avoids missing out an option) ALL THIS WILL COME
“Fed up” and looking around? FROM PRACTICE !!!
AVOID Wasting Time PRACTICE PRACTICE
Do not use over smart guessing PRACTICE
Tips during the exam:
Plan your breaks
Try finishing the first 2-3 blocks together.
Then take a break after each block.
Please use the restroom during each break !!
What you may not know
about Steps
Experimental Questions. No marks assigned to
these. Building their bank.
Every question has enough info to answer
it without looking at the options
Look out for distractors
Score depends not just on mean, but variance
as well. Narrower your subject performance,
higher your score.
USMLE is currently discussing to remove the
numeric scoring system and just have a pass or
fail score. I don’t think people should panic. Still
in early stage, may not even come through
because there is a lot of opposition.
It wont increase competition from AMG ( their
match rate is 99% anyways). Maybe (slight
chance) it may affect the quality of programs
IMGs match into but I dont see it decreasing the
match rate of IMGs.
It helps to know that TNMC is a reputed college
worldwide.

antisocial and rude
