My Teaching Platform
I believe the purpose of schooling…

● For students to be more knowledgeable

● For students to gain opportunities and experiences for their future

● I see a school like a train station; the students are passengers and the teachers are conductors.

The conductor’s job is to move the passengers to their next destinations. What the passengers

end up getting after, is more information and experience than what they had before. In the end,

all of the student’s destinations will be different from their peers, they will be experiencing

different environments and adventures, but in the end, these “passengers” will end up arriving at

their own personal destinations, more informed than before they got on the train.

My image of a learner is...

● A growing plant where, with an equitable amount of water, they can grow into a large tree.

● I don’t see learners as a clean slate, I know that all my learners have experiences and can

connect their schooling with their home-life.

The nature and substance of school work should be...

● An opportunity to make sure they understand what they know during class, collaboratively and

independently.

● Homework should only be assignments they did not get the opportunity to finish during class.

My image of the teacher is...

● An informative educator, but also an engaging listener/learner

● A leader and educator for their students, but also a counselor

My image of the curriculum

● A lesson with a set of opportunistic goals in place for the students and teachers at the end

● The curriculum should be flexible, where teachers are able to structure the way they teach the

lessons.

My preferred pedagogy

● A shared student-oriented and teacher-oriented environment, where the teachers and students

work together to gain an understanding of the contexts.

My preferred school climate is...

● An engaging environment, where students can grow as individuals and as a community.

● A democratic environment, where students’ voices are heard and followed with the teachers’.

● An opportunity for the students to work/volunteer with their community members and gain

leadership.

I believe the social significance of the student's learning...

● They are appreciative and informed of their identities and cultures

● They are acceptive of diverse ideas and thinking

● They build relationships and connections with their peers and faculty leaders
