• National Institute of Fashion Technology was set-up in 1986 at New Delhi by the
Ministry of Textiles, Government of India as a registered society under the
Societies Registration Act, 1860. Today across the globe, NIFT is acknowledged as a
premier institute for imparting in various areas of fashion education including
design, management and technology.
• With the NIFT (National institute of Fashion and Technology ) director approving
the site, decks are all cleared to have 16th centre of the prestigious institute in
Panchkula city of Haryana.

• As per the estimates, the total project cost is calculated as Rs. 138.11 Crores out
of which Rs. 93.74 Crores is required for the construction of Panchkula campus
covering approximately 3.5 lacs square feet of constructed area at sector 23 part
2 Panchkula, the land as identified by the Govt. of Haryana.
• The institute is a college of Design, Management and Technology catering to the
needs of rapidly growing ready-made garment industry, which has to meet the
challenges of the global market.

• Fashion implies creativity and time an


everchanging phenomenon.
• The human body is the basis of all
fashion. Every epoch develops its own
aesthetic of the ideal human shape.
• Clothes can accentuate as well as tone
down certain parts of the body so as to
make the silhouette approach as
nearly as possible the prevalent ideal.
They can correct faults and create an
illusion.
• A fashion is meant to be copied by
everyone but paradoxically, the
fashionably dressed individual expects
to stand in a crowd.
NIFT’s Fifteen
Campuses in India

• On 19th July 2012, Shri Anand Sharma, Hon. Minister of Textiles,
Government of India in a public function, attended by the Chief Minister
of Haryana, announced his decision to establish a NIFT campus at
Panchkula. The Board of Governors NIFT, in its meeting held on 23rd July
2012 approved in principle, establishment of a NIFT Campus at
Panchkula.

acres. The cost of 1st phase is

IT Park and Agro Mall in Panchkula
for two years.

ABOUT THE CITY
• Panchkula is newly formed 17th district of Haryana State.
• Panchkula is located in the north of Haryana state.
• It is surrounded by Patiala district of Punjab and Chandigarh in the
West; Solan and Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh in the North and
South as well. as East by Ambala.
• Panchkula district enjoys the privilege of having the beautiful hill track
of Haryana, the only beautiful hill resort at Morni Hills.
• Panchkula district has a sub tropical continental monsoon climate
having, hot summers, cool winters, good monsoon rainfall. It has great
variation in temperature (-1 °C to 43 °C). Sometimes winter frost occurs
during December and January. The district also receives winter rains
from the western disturbance.
• The rainfall is mostly received in the monsoon. Morni hills constitute
the highest point of the district as well as of Haryana.
• The Ghaggar is the only perennial river, which is very shallow outside of
the monsoons. The mountains and hills of Kasauli are clearly visible
from Panchkula.

NEED
• Gandhiji even before independence introduced the “swadeshi" a
"boycott" movements. This was done to inherist a sense of his swadeshi
dressing which had its own exception right from the indus valley
civilization.
• The khadi industry get a certain lift up by gandhiji , his movement
provided selfemployment & a market in india for indians.
• India has its own staple of production & designing of textile which is art
of the best qualities of indian life style from khadi industry considering
the readymade garment expert & the potential in this fashion business.
• The growth of garment industry on the export trend could be
considered as phenomenon with impressive progress since 1930.
• High demand of professions in textile industry because of so many
indusries in haryana.

AIM
• To understand the process involved in fashion technology with its
own characteristic special requirements thus evolving a new
vocabulary of architecture for design with sustainable architecture as
a platform for development of other arts.
• The Aim is to provide a physical environment conducive for
interactive learning, by creation of spaces encouraging creative
thoughts, giving due respect to the climate and physical character of
the region.

OBJECTIVES
• To design a building which is environmentally sensitive and
indigenous in character.
• To develop an interface of tradition and technology with the building
components as a connection to the theme of the institute.
• To generate a vocabulary and design temperament of the project for
architectural expression that will reflect the urban character of that
place.
• To design with Social Sustainability as a major aspect of the project
which is now a days everyone neglects.
• while designing Build links between the environment and built
spaces.
• This project will be the combination of art, architecture and design
and thus creating landmark for the city.
• To propose sustainability frameworks incorporated into the building
which uses smart and passive techniques which will effectively lead
to optimum energy consumption.

• The site lies in Panchkula sector –23, At the back of the site 3o m wide green belt is
provided. There is hospital and I.T.I area on the one side of the site.
• The presence of panchkula golf course and the river ghaggar make the site more green
and gives it a good appealing view .
• Chandigarh being a metropolitan city and panchkula being closely related to it good
flow of students will be towards the institution. Also the growing fashion trends will
even attract students to be a part of the institution hence nift setup in panchkula will
be beneficial
• One of the major reasons for the chosen site for nift Is the close link of industrial area.
• Transportation and connectivity of the site is very good since it is closely
connected to the Chandigarh metropolitan area.
• Major highways presence make the transportation more easy and
accessible to the nearby cities.

SWOT ANALYSIS
Strength:
1.Good views of golf course and sivalik hills available.
2.A green belt is provided at east side of side.
3.Proximity to golf couse invites visitors.
4.Good connectivity to city.
5.International Airport is also at a distance of 20km from site.
Weakness:
1.Site is being used as dumping ground.
2.Lack of vegetation.
3. Ht line passing over site.
Opportunities:
1.Many proposals of housings and commercial areas nearby site.
Threats:
1.Site has a major threat of ht line of 400kv passing over it.
2.Development of existing land and refilling of low lying areas

GEOGRAPHY
• Geographical location:- Panchkula district has a sub tropical
continental monsoon climate having, hot summers, cool winters, good
monsoon rainfall. It has great variation in temperature (-1 °C to 43 °C).
Sometimes winter frost occurs during December and January. The
district also receives winter rains from the western disturbance. The
rainfall is mostly received in the monsoon. Morni hills constitute the
highest point of the district as well as of Haryana. The Ghaggar is the
only perennial river, which is very shallow outside of the monsoons. The
mountains and hills of Kasauli are clearly visible from Panchkula.
• Topography: Fairly flat. Rough surface with some slight depressions.
• Slope: gentle slope towards east although no visible slope.
• Climate: The climate remains the most enjoyable part of the year
during the spring season (from February-end to early-April).
Temperatures vary between (max) 13 °C to 20 °C and (min) 5 °C to
12 °C.
• Monsoon: Maximum amount of rain received by the city of Panchkula
during monsoon season is 195.5 mm in a single day.
• Ground Water Table: pre-monsoon-6-7 m, Post-monsoon-15 m
• Vegetation: Vegetation is in primary stage. No large tree is present.
