4-Year Plan

Here is a screen shot of my approved grad plan.

This plan was approved by my BYU-I advisor a few weeks ago. I still plan to

manipulate the courses a little. I noticed it has me finishing in Spring of 2020. I

think if I can move my last three courses around I can graduate by the end of 2021

but we will see.

* Year 1:

- Personal Goals: read scriptures weekly as a family

- Professional Goals: part time employee: focus on family & education

- Educational Goals: declare major in Marriage and Family

* Year 2:

- Personal Goals: go to bed by 10pm nightly and eat less sugar

- Professional Goals: eliminate second job (babysitting)

- Educational Goals: complete courses for bachelor’s degree

* Year 3:

- Personal Goals: read 1 non school required book a month

- Professional Goals: apply to school districts for a position in my field

- Educational Goals: complete bachelor’s degree internships & graduate

* Year 4:

- Personal Goals: learn to speak Spanish and complete CPR training

- Professional Goals: if not a school counselor yet, apply and keep at it

- Educational Goals: look into and begin master’s program

Paragraph:

Above are my goals for the next 4 years. They cover personal, professional

and educational aspirations. Year 1 I plan to eliminate unnecessary things in my life

that take up time when I could better apply it to my scripture reading goal. This

could include cutting down on movie time and social media time. I also plan to submit

a new (and limited) availability request to my employer to enable me to dedicate more

time to my family and school work. Thankfully with my husbands careers moving

upward and onward I should be able to step back from work with financial comfort. I

have my grad plan approved and I still want to change some courses around to make

sure they all qualify for Marriage and Family. Year 2 I plan to set phone and Alexa

reminders to help me prepare myself for a full nights sleep. This is a struggle I am

sure most working moms experience. I also want to eliminate my second job which is

babysitting. It makes school studies difficult. I hope that this time we will be even

more financially secure that I will be able to do this. Year 2 is also when I should

finish all my courses according to the grad plan that I have set for myself. This only

averages 2 classes per semester but that allows me to keep my sanity and slow and

steady wins the race (at least in my case). Year 3, I am hoping to have more time to

read for leisure. It is something that I love and dearly miss. I have just started a

book club through Relief Society and we are meeting every other month so this will

help me prepare to meet my year 3 goal. By this time I will be ready to do my

internships and I plan to research available internships starting with my local school
districts to see what they have to offer. I will also apply to the district for paying

jobs as well. Year 4, I would like to begin studies on learning a new language. Ever

since I was little I have wanted to speak Spanish. Living about an hour and a half

from the Mexico border, this is a fairly practical goal. I would love to be able to

communicate with more people in my community. Working at Barnes and Noble will

give me access to employee discounts on language software such as Rosetta Stone. I

am very excited about this goal. By year 4, I hope to already be working in a local

school district. Assuming that I am not already in my desired position, I will apply

for school counselor in open in near by school (elementary and middle schools). I am

considering getting my masters degree and this would be an opportune time to look

into it. I am developing some great connections with people who can assist me in this

journey. Forming this 4 year plan helped me to see the bigger picture. It will be

interesting for me to see what I am able to accomplish and how my goals alter over

the next 4 years.
