ENW 100: Intro to Rhetoric and Composition with Professor Ferrara was definitely one
of my favorite classes in my schedule during the fall semester. Throughout the semester I felt
like I was learning so much more effectively than I was in my high school english classes. One
big concept I learned this semester was ethos, pathos, and logos. I learned how to implement that
into a paper when doing the rhetorical analysis essay. Also, I learned some important tips to
make my essays more professional. For example, learning how to properly write down quotes for
Ted Talks or any videos with the correct time periods. Something that was challenging for me
during this semester was the personal narrative essay. I see myself as someone who knows how
to tell stories well in person/verbally, but when writing a narrative, I struggle. However, meeting
with Professor Ferrara helped me during this process. I was able to make some good changes
which helped let the narrative make more sense. The assignment that I think helped me the most
was either the multimodal essay or the rhetorical analysis. During both these papers I improved
by practicing gathering evidence and quotes to support my claim. In the multimodal essay I
enjoyed gathering information from scholarly sources. It took my paper to the next level. One
major takeaway from ENW 100 was being able to have a lot of freedom when writing your
essay. For each assignment I was able write about what I wanted. For the rhetorical analysis
paper, I was able to pick out my own TED Talk. For the multimodal paper, I was able to pick out
an arguable question/topic. This was probably my favorite aspect of the class because it makes

the writing process a lot more enjoyable. Some advice I would give someone coming into the
class next semester is make sure you stay ahead on your work. There were a few times this
semester where I was writing a whole paper or rough draft the day before it was due. Time
management is very important during college and I’ll admit it’s something I underestimated at
first. I’m still working on improving it. Instead of doing homework, essays, and projects in my
room I have been going to the library and Dolan School of Business. Overall, try and find a
strategy that works for you because everyone is different. Another piece of advice I would give
someone that is taking this class next semester is to go to office hours and meet with Professor
Ferrara. Professor Ferrara is very approachable and I’ve gotten some great advice from her
during the fall semester. To conclude, ENW 100 with Professor Ferrara was an amazing
