2.2.1. Inrush Current
Repetitive ON/OFF cycling of the AC input voltage will not damage the power supply or the
input fuse to blow. Half cycle peak inrush current, peak repetitive input current, and worst

surge or spike of 10ms or less will not exceed 140A peak. Any additional inrush current surges
or spikes in the form of AC cycles or multiple AC cycles greater than 10ms, and less than
150ms, must not exceed 35A peak.

2.3.5. Closed Loop Stability

The PSU will be totally stable throughout the complete normal load and AC range. The PSU
vendor is to provide supporting data as to the closed loop stability in the form of Bode plots. A
minimum phase margin is recommended at both the minimum and maximum load.

3. Circuit Protection
3.1. Over Voltage Protection
The over voltage sense circuitry and reference shall reside in packages that are separate and
distinct from the regulator control circuitry and reference. No single point fault shall be able
to cause a sustained over voltage condition on any or all outputs.
The power supply shall provide latch mode Over Voltage Protection (OVP) such that any
single voltage failure warrants the outputs from exceeding the subsequent limits:

Table 6: Over Voltage Limit

Output Over Voltage Limit
5V 6.5 V
12V 15.6 V
3.3V 4.3 V
5VSB 6.5 V

3.2. Short Circuit

All main outputs shall shutdown and latch off if any of the outputs are shorted to the secondary
common (R < 0.03Ω) or if main outputs are shorted between other outputs.
The supply shall recover to normal state by cycling the main AC power or removal of the short.

3.3. No Load Condition

With the supply output plugs disconnected from the DC load connectors, no PSU, component
are damage or any hazardous conditions shall occur. The PSU shall operate under a no load
condition and the fan is operating.

3.4. Over Current Protection

No DC output rail shall exceed 240VA when tested. The supply will shutdown and no damage
shall occur to the supply.

4. Waveforms

4.1. Rise Time

The rise of any output shall be from 10% to 95% of their rated voltage inside 0.1-20m sec at
nominal line voltage.

4.2. Monotonic waveforms

4.3.1. Remote ON/OFF
A) An active low TTL compatible signal (PS –ON) shall enable the PSU DC outputs
(except for the 5Vstb).
A) The 5Vstb is ON whenever an operating specified AC voltage is present. The 5Vstb
shall not be effected by the PS –ON signal.
B) When PS-ON is pulled to TTL low ( ground), the DC outputs are then enabled.
C) When PS-ON is pulled to TTL high or open circuited, the DC outputs are then
disabled.
D) The DC output enable circuit shall be SELV compliant.
E) In this function, the PS-ON signal may be activated either by electronic or
mechanical switch.
F) PS-ON shall have the design circuitry capability for prevention of mechanical
switch de-bouncing. Thus eliminating oscillation of ON/OFF at start up.

4.4. Standby Voltage (+5Vsb)

Following the removal of AC power, the +5Vsb output shall remain at its steady state value
until it begins to decrease in voltage. The decrease shall be monotonic in nature dropping to
0.0 volts. The +5Vsb shall be active and in regulation when an operating specified AC input
voltage is applied.

4.5. Power Good (POK)

The Power Good signal (POK or PGOOD) is asserted HIGH by the PSU to indicate that the
5V and 3.3V outputs are above the under voltage thresholds listed in 2.3.1
The supply shall provide a level (V) high to indicate proper operation of the power supply and
to reset system logic. A low (V) level indicates an early warning for impending loss of
regulation due to turn off or failure to meet proper startup requirements or sustain continuous
operation conditions.

4.6. Hold Time

The DC outputs shall remain within specification for a minimum 14m sec after power has been
removed from the supply. Measurement conditions: 115Vac, max load, power down at zero
crossing.

Mechanical specifications are described in

5.2. Cooling
5.2.1. Over temperature fault protection
In the event of a fan failure or the vents being blocked, the PSU shall have protection such that
any over temperature condition caused by these events shall protect the power supply from
damage or abnormal and/or dangerous operation. A shutdown of the power supply is
acceptable. A temperature derating factor less than 110% for the critical components is
recommended before the power supply is shut down. Temperature derating factors higher than
110% can be evaluated on a case by case basis.
