Statue of Liberty
The copper statue, a gift from France to the United States, was designed by French
sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. The
Statue of Liberty is a figure a robed Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her
head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed in Roman
numerals with "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1776), the date of the U.S. Declaration of
Independence
Birth of USA
By the 1760s, thirteen British colonies contained 2.5 million people along the Atlantic
coast east of the Appalachian Mountains. After defeating France, the British government imposed a
series of taxes. Tax resistance, led to Parliament issuing punitive laws designed to end self-
government in Massachusetts .Armed conflict began in 1775. In 1776 in Philadelphia, the Second
Continental Congress declared the independence of the colonies as the United States. Led by
General George Washington, it won the Revolutionary War with large support from France.
The US Congress
The United States Congress is the bicameral legislature of the federal government of
the United States, and consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives and
the Senate. The Congress meets in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. Both
senators and representatives are chosen through direct election. Congress has 535 voting
members: 435 representatives and 100 senators.
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the 16th president
of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the
nation through the American Civil War, its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional,
and political crisis.[3][4] He preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal
government, and modernized the U.S. economy.
