AP Biology is a course that I have wanted to take since I heard about it in the beginning of
freshman year in the Advanced Biology course. I have excelled in many science courses I have taken in
the past, and believe that I am now prepared to take on the challenges of a college-level science course.
Biology is my science of choice, because it is the basis of life on Earth, and it incorporates several
different sciences within it. Rather than being math-based like Chemistry and Physics, Biology is based
on processes, which I find more intriguing to learn about. I would like to pursue a Biology major in
college, followed a career in the medical field, and AP Biology is a crucial course to take for this career
path.
One of the reasons that I would like to take AP Biology is because of my excellent experience
during freshman year in the Advanced Biology course. It was an intriguing class offering both the
fundamentals of Biology, and an in-depth, thorough review of each topic. I am interested in both
revisiting and the intriguing material covered, and covering the more complex and intricate details of the
concepts, that weren’t covered in Advanced Biology. I am very interested in in the broad range of topics
in Biology. I believe that AP Biology will cover all the material presented in Advanced Biology, but
adding a lot more material into it, which will deepen my knowledge of Biology.
AP Biology is a course that I would like to take because throughout my years of taking lab-based
science courses, I have consistently excelled in conducting experiments carefully and precisely to get the
most accurate results possible. Biology, as any science course does, requires lab exercises, which require
precise collection of data. I would like to take a higher-level science course such as AP Biology to
perfect my skills in these areas, and gain experience working in a science lab to better prepare me for
future science courses.
Finally, I would like to take AP Biology because I am considering pursuing a career in the
medical field. Taking this class will help me determine if this is truly the path I wish to pursue in college
and beyond. I believe that I would be beneficial to me at an academic standpoint if I were to take a
college-level science course in high school and earn the necessary college credit.
Overall, I believe that I am qualified for AP Biology, have the necessary skills to be successful in
the class, and I am prepared to take on the challenges that a high-level science course presents.
