Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to formally notify you that I have decided to resign from my

for the wonderful five years that I have spent working with you at Jones
Incorporation.

Working as a sales supervisor for almost half a decade in your esteemed

organisation was one of the best opportunities in my life. I have gained
valuable experience in dealing with customers and promoting products
which I believe will help me further advance my career. Moreover, the
coworkers, seniors and the management had been like a family to me. I
enjoyed working for this company to a great extent.

I have recently accepted an offer at a managerial position in Dunken's

Brothers Company. I am expected to join there at the beginning of March.

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Rona Lyn Olivar, an ICU Nurse at the Urdaneta City Sacred Heart
Hospital, located in the province of Pangasinan in the Philippines. I have
learned from a colleague that you will conduct an Electrocardiogram
Training in Singapore. I am writing to ask for some specific information
regarding the seminar schedule, program details, accommodation
arrangement and the cost.

Firstly, with regards to dates and time, what will be the seminar schedule
and what time would it begin and end each day? Secondly, please notify
me of the topics and speakers of the program. I am wondering if there is
any special consideration for the registered nurses who will be attending
the seminar? And finally, I would also like to know about the
accommodation and the cost. Would the accommodation be arranged by
you or should an individual be responsible for that? What would be the
approximate cost to attend and successfully finish the seminar?

I am very much interested in attending the seminar and your reply would
help me plan for it in advance. So, I am looking forward to hearing from you
soon regarding my concerns.

Yours faithfully,
Rona Olivar

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inquire about your exclusive seminar hall that we are

planning to reserve for an official event. We are expecting a few additional

to make it a success.

We will organise the annual get-together party and I would like to know the
availability of your seminar hall during the second week of next March. Our
agenda will be staff meet-up followed by an hour-long presentation and it
would conclude with a grand dinner party. We would require a high-
resolution LCD projector and the Wi-Fi connection facility for Laptops.
Seating arrangement is expected to be for almost 100 people. We also
require facilities for welcome drinks for guests and dinner for all of them.

I am curious to know about the rates to hire the hall for 6 hours, from 4:00
pm to 10:00 pm, with the list of facilities it offers. Additionally, please send
me the menu for dinner including drinks. Also, mention the best possible
concession you can offer and break down the expected expenses. We will
not compromise the hygienic and food quality and we are expecting the
party to be organised without any glaring issue from your end.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

another week or so I will return to Manhattan on 27th October. I want to see
you and your baby as soon as I land. I will probably visit you first and then
get back to my apartment.

Please do not hesitate to text or call me if you want me to bring anything for
you. I will do some shopping for the baby and any suggestion from you is
much welcomed.

I cannot wait to see you both. I have not heard such a thrilling news in
decades. My best wished for you all once again.

You have been doing some voluntary work to help your local community.
However, now you are unable to continue doing this work.

working. In your letter:
• describe the work you have been doing
• explain why you can no longer do this work
• recommend another person who is interested in the work
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Mr Patrick,

I am a cadet in your community-based rehabilitation team and I have been

with this group since 2015. I regret to inform you that I will not be able to
continue with your organisation effective from 1st December 2018 as I am
leaving for my home country once and for all.

It has been a wonderful journey for me so far. I was predominantly working

with the rehabilitation team, assisting the medical panel of experts as a
volunteer doctor. My duties mainly comprised of the initial assessment of
patients, who are from the indigent part of our local community. The
assessment mainly included monitoring the physical, social and emotional
wellness of them.

As you may remember, I was pursuing my postgraduation at Boston

University. Now that my study permit has expired, I am preparing to leave
for my home country in a couple of weeks. Henceforth, can no longer work
for the team I had been a part of. However, it would be my pleasure, to
introduce one of my junior in college, who is willing to take over my position
in the team. Now, the whole charade of recruitment of a new employee, the
prerequisites and all, as intended, I leave it upon you. His name is Jackson
Dave and he will be in contact with you soon.

Once again, I would take this opportunity to thank everyone who stood
beside me during my tenure with the group. I wish every success of the
organisation.

Sincerely yours,
Jane Smith
You missed a flight due to a problem at the airport.
Write a letter to the airline. In your letter
• describe what happened that caused you to miss the flight
• explain how missing your flight affected you
• make it clear what you would like the airline to do
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I could not get on the flight from Dublin to
Tokyo on 21st March due to a mismanagement at the airport. I would like
you to rectify the issue and arrange my next flight on 24th March.

I booked my flight with your airline two weeks ago and was scheduled to fly
to Tokyo from the Dublin airport at 2100 hours on 21st March 2018. I
reached the airport three hours prior to my schedule and checked in my
luggage. When I was ready to take my flight, an airport security personnel
approached me and asked me to follow him to the security room for an
interrogation. I was quite baffled by the sudden inquest and tried to be as
helpful as possible. However, the damage has already been made. I
missed my flight when I was cleared and due to this, I could not attend an
important meeting at our Tokyo office. I notified my employer immediately
and they asked me to take the next flight, which was not available until 24th
March.

I would like you to rectify this unexpected investigation within your

jurisdiction and book my flight on 24th March without imposing any new
ticket price on me.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,
Evan Piera
You recently travelled by bus from your hometown to a different city and left
some valuable items on the bus.
Write a letter to a bus company saying you have left some valuables on the
bus. Tell them what to do if they have found it.
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Last Friday, I travelled from Cubao Station to Ayala Bus Bay on one of your
buses. Unfortunately, I left a bag on the bus and hoping that you would
notify me of whereabouts of the bag so that I can retrieve it.

In relation to the journey that I made, I embarked a bus at the Cubao

Station (Bus No. CA234) on 17th April 2018, at around 8:00 in the morning,
and took off at Ayala Station. I checked in the bag and declared its contents
while checking-in.

When I realised that I left my bag after a few hours, I have tried to locate
the bus at the Ayala Station, but I failed to do so. It is a medium size black
backpack with white straps and pouch in the front. It has a panda luggage
tag that shows my name and contact details. The bag contains some
important documents and a 14-inch black Toshiba laptop with a black
leather cover. The content of the bag is really important to me and my work
and I need those urgently.

If you have already found it, kindly call me at 743-9223014 or do send an

email at ahc@yahoo.com. I will arrange a pick up with your company.
However, if it is possible to be sent via a courier service, it will be a great
help. I am ready to bear the delivery charges.

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Your help will be highly
appreciated.

Yours faithfully,

You booked a two-week holiday to Sydney with a tour agency. You are not
happy with the holiday – the flight was delayed, the hotel was noisy, and so
on.
Write to the tour agency to complain about the holiday giving details about
the problems. Request some compensation or refund.
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Two months ago I booked a tour package from your agency and travelled
to Sydney on 23rd July I was excited when I booked the tour but very
disappointed to find that your agency did not keep its promises. I am
hoping you will probe the issue and refund me $780 that I had to spent
personally due to the mismanagement by your employees.

In relation to the specifics of the package I opted in, I booked the exclusive
two-week-long tour package to Sydney on May 12th and paid $2800 in
cash. I am attaching a copy of my receipt and confirmation slip with this
letter. The package includes a fortnight tour to Sydney inclusive of roundtrip
flights, four-star hotel accommodation, tour guides, breakfasts, sightseeing
tour and a few other recreational activities.

The issue with the tour is that we did not get the services we were
promised. The departure flight your agency booked were delayed for
almost 3 hours and landed at a different airport than assured. On top of
that, we were taken to a two-star hotel and the quality of its service was
below standard. I did not pay for a two-star hotel and want an explanation
of this mismanagement and false claim.

As a solution, and because I do not want to start a legal fight if you are
willing to take actions, I am hoping that you will agree to refund me $780
that I was forced to spend. If I do not hear back from you in regards to this
within a week, I will be forced to take legal actions, which by all means I
would like to avoid with your cooperation.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
Wesley Phillip
Write a letter to a financial organisation that gives money to students who
would like to take a part-time course.
Write a letter to a local financial organisation. In your letter
• give your qualifications and work experience
• give details about the course
• explain how this course will help you
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inquire about the student loan scheme that your bank grants
to aspiring students or professionals to help them finish skill development
courses as part-timers. I am a graduate in physics major and would like to
apply for the loan.

I have earned my bachelor degree from the University of Edinburgh in 2016

and have been working in a local manufacturing company since then as a
junior executive. Now I feel that I need advanced computer skills to further
my career and better perform in my work field.

The skill development course that I am planning to enrol into offers a

comprehensive six-month-long curriculum intended to enhance computing
skills of professionals. It includes advanced MS Excel, Database
programming, Computer Aided Design, and many other aspects that a
professional in a manufacturing sector can utilise.

As the use of computers and software is predominant in our organisation, I

would not be able to perform excellently without the skills this course offers.
The database concept and Computer Aided Design can help me execute
my daily tasks in a more efficient manner. To advance my career, I see no
alternatives than to learn those. However, I need financial help as this
course is expensive. I am hoping that you would disburse the loan so that I
can take the course. I need a loan not more than $3000 and I am willing to
repay the monthly instalment incurred from the loan over the next two
years.

I would really appreciate your consideration and a positive reply.

Yours faithfully,
Nathan Adam
You borrowed a book from a public library and the book is now damaged.
Write a letter to the librarian to explain the situation. Your letter should
include:
• details about the book
• how it was damaged
• what you want to do about it
You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Two weeks ago I borrowed a book from your library. I was excited to have
read the book but very disappointed to recently find that it was damaged. I
am hoping you will allow me to purchase a new book of the same title as a
compensation.

In relation to the specifics of the book, I borrowed 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' a

novel by George Orwell, on 17th July from your library using my library card
BM-450124. I have been thoroughly enjoying the book and almost finished
it until it got damaged.

Unfortunately, On 25th July, three days before the due date to return the
novel, I found that it was ruined due to the pouring rain that somehow
reached my table placed near the window. I put the book on the table and
had been outside the whole time it rained. All of the books on the table
absorbed rainwater and the book I borrowed from the library is now
unreadable due to the damage the water caused to it.

As a solution, and because I really want to express my apology for the

incident, I seek your permission to purchase a new book with the same title
for the library. I am also hoping that you would not impose any penalty for
the incident.

Thank you in advance and I hope to hear your reply soon.

Yours faithfully,

Write a letter to your college’s administration department complaining about
the college’s facilities.
In your letter include:
• what the problem is
• how this problem has affected you
• what the college should do to fix this problem
You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a third-year accounting major student in your college and I am writing

to you regarding a problem that I have encountered several times over the
past few weeks in our football ground. I am hoping that you would take
steps to solve the matter immediately.

In relation to the issue, our football team is preparing for the upcoming
competition against FC College, and the training is very hard - both
mentally and physically. Hence we sometimes get very lethargic towards
the end of our training sessions. But I am extremely alarmed at the fact that
the faucet at the ground appears to be out of order, therefore, my
teammates and I can’t quench our thirsts during and after the practice.
Because of this, I suffered from dehydration a few days ago and had to be
rushed to the hospital.

My intention in writing this letter to you is to ask a working condition faucet

for drinking water so that we can carry on our practice sessions without
risking our health.

Expecting your kind attention and prompt action regarding this.

Yours sincerely,
Sameed Qureshi
Your car insurance company has told you that they are going to increase
the insurance amount you have to pay for your car each month. You are
not happy about this.
Write a letter to the insurance company. In your letter explain
• why you are writing to them
• why you think the insurance should not be increased
• what you want them to do
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in response to a letter that I received recently stating that my

insurance premium would increase from January 2019. I do not believe the
increase is rational and hence would like you to reconsider it.

I have been managing my car insurance with your company for the last 8
years and my insurance policy number is 8101023457-115-2. My monthly
premium is already higher than that of some of my colleagues and
relatives. The 20% increase in monthly insurance payment is not
acceptable because I am already paying higher and no other notable
insurance company has raised their premium recently.

Inflating the premium, especially at a time of recession, goes against the

insurance holders' interest. I would really appreciate if you could write me
back with an explanation of why such an increase is needed when others
have not done so. I would request you to reconsider the decision,
otherwise, I am afraid I will have to move my car insurance policy to
another company.

I am looking forward to receiving your reply as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
Sonia Vincent
You have bought a new mobile phone and in a few days of purchase, it has
stopped working. You have spoken to the company representative a week
ago but it has still not been repaired.
Write a letter to the company. In your letter,
• introduce yourself
• explain the situation
• say what action you would like the company to take

Dear Sir or Madam,

Two weeks ago I purchased a brand new mobile phone from your shop. I
was excited to have purchased it but very disappointed to find that the
phone was poorly produced and stopped working within a week of
purchase. I have talked to one of your representatives over the phone twice
but nothing has been done so far. I am hoping you will replace it
immediately.

In relation to the specifics of the order, I purchased this mobile phone from
your Davidsons Avenue store on September 23rd and it was a cash
purchase. The model of the mobile phone is OnePlus 6 and it comes with
6.28 inches display, Android 8.1 (Oreo) OS, 16 Megapixel camera, 6 GB
RAM and Octa-core processor. The order number is 25789652 and I am
attaching a copy of my receipt.

The issue with the phone is that I am unable to start it even after the phone
is fully charged. It is dead and unusable for me. I’m sure this is a
manufacturing flaw and I am entitled to get a new phone as a replacement
according to the warranty policy. Despite my communication with one of
your representatives a week ago, nothing has been done and I seriously
doubt the after-sale service you provide. As a solution, and because I really
like the functionality and features of this phone, I am hoping that you will
agree to replace it with a new one immediately. Otherwise, I would like a
full refund and I will be contacting the Bureau of Consumer Protection if I
do not hear back from you in regards to this within a week.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
David Miller
You travelled by plane last week and your suitcase was lost. You have still
heard nothing from the airline company.
Write to the airline and explain what happened. Describe your suitcase and
tell them what was in it. Find out what they are going to do about it.
You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I took a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne on 16th March on the Royal
Dutch Airlines and lost my suitcase. I am writing to get an update regarding
this and hoping you would help me locate the lost luggage.

My flight number was MH 1685 and the seat number was 12B. The plane
departed the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 9.30 pm and after I
arrived at the Melbourne Airport, I noticed that my suitcase was lost. I could
not recover it after searching for more than two hours. Although I have
explained this to Mr Johnson, who was in charge of the luggage claim
office and promised to give me a call within the next 24 hours, I am yet to
receive an update. My luggage claim number is 00269 and I am attaching a
copy of it.

The suitcase that I lost is a dark brown leather suitcase with a black handle.
It contains some clothes, souvenirs for friends, a couple of magazines, a
novel and a business proposal which I need for a presentation I am going
to conduct on 30th March.

I would really appreciate if you could look into the matter and update me on
the whereabouts of the suitcase. I really need this urgently and can pick it
up from your office once you confirm its possession.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours Faithfully,
Andrew Harris
Write a letter to the Mayor, the head of a municipal government,
complaining about a situation in which some adolescents let their dogs run
wildly causing a dangerous situation.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to complain about a severe condition in my

neighbourhood created by some teenagers who make the life of ordinary
citizens difficult especially by letting their dangerous dogs roam freely in the
streets.

I have been residing in this town for the last five years. It was a peaceful
locality up until recently. The situation deteriorated, perhaps because some
new families settled in here lately who have teenage children who they
have no control over. These youngsters all have untrained bulldogs who
accompany them all the time. The cause of concern is that they often let
the dogs go free and run behind them as if they are competing. This
creates fear and terror among other well-disposed residents. On the
contrary, they misbehave with elderly and use offensive words in the open
streets.

In this worrisome and tensed situation, I would expect you to take proper
actions to restore the peacefulness in the neighbourhood. This would be a
sigh of relief for all residents.

I sincerely hope you would take an immediate action against all those
involved in creating a havoc in this amicable locality.

Yours faithfully,
Mubashir Noorani
You had a good meal at a local restaurant with your family. Write a letter to
the newspaper to tell them about it, describe the meal you had, and why
you think the restaurant is worth visiting.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to share my positive review for the Yummy Restaurant that I

believe is a worth visiting dining establishment in our area.

We celebrated my sister's birthday party last week at this restaurant.

Originally, I thought only twenty people would attend, but apparently, the
number increased to thirty. I was worried that it would not be possible for
the restaurant to accommodate more people without prior notice. However,
I was pleasantly surprised when the Manager told me that they could do it
and would even upgrade our room to a more spacious one. The overall
service was impeccable and the party was a hit, thanks to the great staff
and their professionalism.

We ordered a three-course set menu and the taste was top-notch. The
escargot entree was absolutely divine that I could still remember the taste
of its garlic butter sauce. My sister ordered pan-fried salmon fillet with
mashed potatoes as the main course, and people were raving about it. The
dessert was a mini-opera which I thought to be rather average, though it
might simply because I do not have sweet teeth.

Overall, we experienced a wonderful night at this restaurant. This place is

highly recommended and we have even started planning our next visit. I
believe you should publish an article regarding this establishment in your
'Fine diners' section so that people can learn about this fabulous place.

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,
Helen Lim
Your car is hired from a company and while you were driving on holiday,
you had a small accident. You will have to write a report to the company to
explain it.
Write a letter to the company. In your letter, you need to explain the
following:
• when and where you hired the car
• describe how the accident happened
• what kind of action did you take after the accident
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have recently rented a car from your Wandsworth showroom in London

for a duration of two weeks. Unfortunately, I was involved in a minor
accident while driving to the Heathrow airport. I am hoping you would go
through the report attached to this letter and handle the incident with
professionalism as you always do.

With regards to the car that I hired, it is a Honda Civic Hybrid sedan car
with the number plate GB LN58RTV. I hired it on 26th May and have paid a
week's rent upfront. I would like to commend your company for their
professionalism and the service offered as I have always relied on your
service whenever I needed to hire a car.

Unfortunately, I had an unavoidable accident involving another party while I

was off to the airport to receive my cousin on 02nd June. The accident was
caused by the other car failing to stop at the red light at the intersection I
was passing through, and as such, the second party collided into the
driver's side of my automobile. The driver of the other car agreed to pay
£800 as a compensation when I informed the police. The police have
recorded information regarding the accident and the other driver’s
insurance details. The second party's insurance company has been
informed as well.

I would like to request that a replacement vehicle should be offered while

my current vehicle is incapacitated. Once again, I would like to commend
your company's professional attitude.

Yours faithfully,
David Clark
You cannot go to a company where you got an offer. Write a letter to the
HR supervisor to:
• explain the reason why you decline the offer
• express your gratitude
• explain why you like your current job very much
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I have recently been offered the Landscape
Designer position in your company and I am very grateful for the
opportunity. But I regret to say that I cannot accept the offer right now.

I have known your company for decades and I have heard about the great
projects that your company has recently completed. I appreciate your time
on checking my portfolio online and I was flattered when I received your
invitation. Honestly, it took me one week to weigh in my option.

At the end of the day, I decided to decline the offer because I am happy
with my achievements and role in my current company. Besides, I also
have a few large on-going projects that I want to finish first to enhance my
portfolio before I decide to explore other job opportunities.

I hope that in the future I will have a chance to work and be a part of the
success of your company. Thank you once again.

Yours faithfully,
Benchong Dee

Last year you attended a presentation skill course at the Sydney College of
Australia. Your new employer has asked you to provide copies of your
reports and assignments as quickly as possible.
Write a letter to the director of the school. In your letter, explain:
• who you are and why you are writing
• request these documents
• ask whether you need to pay any fee for that
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Julia Scarlet from the United Kingdom. I am writing to you to requests

copies of my reports and assignment that I submitted to the course
coordinator to complete a presentation skill course I undertook at the
Sydney College of Australia. I am hoping you would arrange to send me
those copies as I need them urgently.

I completed the course on 18th March 2018 under the supervision of Mr

Alfred and had my copy of reports, certificate and assignment. I submitted
those to my previous employer 'LVL Group' and recently took a job with
another company. The new company has asked me to forward these
papers and this is why I need these documents urgently.

I had an email correspondence with Mr Alfred, my course coordinator, and

he suggested me to contact you for those papers. I would request you to
forward these documents to my address as soon as possible. Kindly inform
me if there is any charge for the second copy of these documents. If there
is any, I would be ready to pay for that.

I would really appreciate your cooperation and kind response.

Yours faithfully,
Julia Scarlet
You use trains to reach office but the timetable of the train has been
changed recently. Write a letter to railway authorities for the revised
timetable, and the train you take to work no longer stops at your station.
In your letter:
• introduce yourself
• what are the problems caused due to the changes
• what you suggest them to do
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to draw your kind attention that, the train schedule in my area
has recently been changed and due to this, many office goers like me are
suffering. I am hoping you would keep the previous timetable and introduce
more frequent trains for the convenience of the residents.

I am a banker and I work as an assistant manager at the City Bank. I

regularly commute to my office using your train. Sadly, the train I used to
take to reach office no longer stops at our station and as a result, we need
to travel a few extra miles to reach the City Centre Station which is
overcrowded in the morning hours. I am often late to reach my office and
have objections about the revised train timetable.

With the introduction of the new train schedule, daily commuting for
employees like me has become utterly difficult which ultimately makes your
service unreliable. Unfortunately, because of this problem, many
commuters are late for their work which is affecting their productivity.
Consequently, they are very upset about your service.

As a solution to this problem, I would recommend you to revert to the

previous schedule and arrange more trains during the peak hours. If it is
not possible, then at least add more carriages to increase the space. It will
be a great relief if you can resolve this problem as soon as possible.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
Campbell Scott
You live in an area where the local council has made some changes to
regulations. You believe these changes are not good for the residents.
Write a letter to a councillor. In your letter:
• introduce yourself
• describe the problem
• say what you think the council should do about the situation
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Patrick Moon, a resident of Cabourne, Lincolnshire and a medical

doctor by profession. I am writing to express my opposing views on the
recent changes that the council have applied recently. I hope you would
reconsider the imposed changes as they are against the people's interests.

The decision to restrict public entry to the Central Lincolnshire Park is not
acceptable to most of the residents. Many residents, with whom I have
talked to in the past weeks, feel very negatively regarding the council's
decision. Moreover, the council has decided to impose a weekly
subscription fee for the public library access which I believe is not a good
move considering a large number of student members.

The 'Central Lincolnshire Park' is a place where local residents can freely
walk, meet others, enjoy the nature and play with children. It should be
open to all. Moreover, the library access should be free to students while
you can expect some membership fees from other readers. Please
reconsider the changes that have been recently made as they are no way
helping people which is one of the important responsibilities of the council.

I would really appreciate if you analyse the changes and put people's
interests above all.

Yours faithfully,
Patrick Moon
You have bought a new camera but when you got it home you found it had
some problems. You returned the camera and spoke to the company
representative a week ago but the camera has still not been repaired.
Write a letter to the company. In your letter:
• introduce yourself
• explain the situation
• say what action you would like the company to take
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have recently bought a Samsung digital camera from your showroom. I

was excited to bring it home but disappointed to find that it did not work as
expected. To add more misery, even after I returned it to your store to claim
the warranty, I am yet to hear an update. I am hoping to get my camera
replaced by a new one.

I have bought a Samsung NX410 40MP camera from 125 Oxford St, Soho
showroom on 10th December. Unfortunately, it malfunctioned just after I
took it home. I cannot take pictures and it turns off automatically. The very
next day, I visited your showroom and talked to Cynthia, one of your
representatives, who assured me that the camera would be replaced within
24 hours. When I called her again, she told me that it would take a few
more days and would be repaired instead of being replaced. When I
demanded the reason, she failed to answer.

It has been almost a week since I purchased the camera from your store.
The faulty product should be your responsibility, not mine. One of my
relatives has advised me to talk to the Consumer Right Authority and file a
complaint against your company but I will wait till 24th (the day before the
Christmas). I am attaching the receipt of the purchase.

I still believe your brand reputation. I would like you to take immediate
action against the misconduct I experienced.

Yours faithfully,
Ginna Maria
You were supposed to go on an interview in a few weeks, but you have
since found out you cannot go on the date arranged.
Write a letter to the potential employer. In your letter
• tell them why you need to move the interview time
• ask to change the interview date
• explain that you are still interested in being interviewed for the job
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apologise as I will not be able to present myself for the

interview which is scheduled for on the second week of November. My
project manager will be out of the country during this time and I will have to
manage the team during his absence. I am hoping that you would be kind
enough to reschedule the interview sometime in December.

I am eagerly waiting to meet you in a formal interview and discuss my

potential for the post of Executive Manager. However, my project manager
called me yesterday to notify me that he will be in Canada from 15th to 25th
November. He asked me to look after the project during his absence.
Therefore I will be incapable to attend the interview as planned.

I would request you to postpone the interview date to a later date -

preferably in December. This would allow me enough time to complete my
tasks and be available for the interview. I aspire to work in your esteemed
organisation and hoping to get a chance.

I look forward to getting a favourable reply from you soon. Thank you for
your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,
Jessica Jeremy
You have received a letter from your bank, asking you to acknowledge
receipt of a new bank card. However, the card was missing from the
envelope.
Write a letter to the bank's head office. In your letter:

» explain why you are writing

» express concern about the missing card
» ask them what they intend to do

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I have recently received a letter from your
bank, and an envelop which was supposed to contain my new bank card.
Unfortunately, no card was enclosed in the envelope when I opened it. I am
hoping that you would issue me another card and hold the delivered one to
stop any misuse.

I have been maintaining a savings bank account with your Deportaire

branch since 2017 and my account number is SA25874210. Immediately
after the occurrence, I telephoned the bank to explain the problem, but I
could not get through to the right department, even though I waited on the
line for over half an hour, which was extremely annoying.

In the letter, you asked me to acknowledge the receipt of the card, but
obviously, I cannot do this as I have not received it. I am now worried
because the lost card might cause trouble. What if the card is misused?
Will the bank be responsible for that?

You should cancel or hold this card so no one else can use it. Please also
send me a new card by secure means.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours faithfully,
Beck Turner
One of your friends wants to apply for a job that involves working with
foreign teenagers. Write a letter of recommendation for him/her.
In your letter, express:
• how well you know your friend
• what qualifications he/she has
• why you think she would be suitable for the job
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to recommend one of my close friends, Millie Mercy,

for the position of assistant supervisor in your organisation. She has an
outstanding academic record, prior work experience with children and an
amiable personality which would make her a suitable candidate to work in
your organisation.

I have been close to Millie from my childhood. She was my classmates

both in school and college. Due to her leadership quality, excellent
academic performance and pleasant personality, teachers and students
loved her dearly. She won a prestigious prize during her school graduation
ceremony and then got admitted to Johanson's Merit College where she
was an active organiser of social events.

She completed her graduation from the University of Eden and then worked
as an interpreter for the United Nation. Afterwards, she travelled
extensively and worked closely with two different humanitarian
organisations in many parts of the world. She can speak English, French
and Spanish fluently. She even has prior teaching experience and children
love her very much.
I would definitely recommend her for the position you have advertised.
Should you need any further information please do not hesitate to write me.

Yours faithfully,
Elyse Villani
You ordered a new chequebook from your bank two weeks ago but you
have received nothing.
Write a letter to the manager complaining about the bad service. Say when
and how you ordered the chequebook. Ask how much longer you will have
to wait and ask the manager what action he will take over this matter.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about the poor customer service that I have

received from your bank lately. Despite giving a chequebook requisition
almost fifteen days ago, I am yet to receive it. I have not got a proper
response from the branch and I am hoping you would resolve it.

Two weeks ago I ordered a chequebook by filling out the request form
when I visited the bank in person. But neither have I got the chequebook
nor have received any correspondence from the bank. I urgently need the
chequebook as I have a few bills that I need to pay by cheque. I maintain a
checking account with your Lockshire branch and my account number is
CAA-25478412354.

I am requesting a proper explanation for the delay and poor service. Please
inform me how much longer I will have to wait for my chequebook. I would
also like to know what action you are going to take regarding this bad
service.

I have been a customer of your bank for more than fifteen years and this is
the first time I have had to complain. It is very disappointing.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
Rocky Taylor
You have just rented an unfurnished flat and a friend has told you that the
Opportunity Shop in the shopping centre has cheap second-hand furniture.
Write to the shop owner describing what you need and asking whether they
have these items and what they cost.

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have just arrived from overseas and purchased a flat which needs some
furniture. A friend has recommended me your store and told that you sell
budget-friendly second-hand furniture and I am writing to inquire about a
few of them that I intend to purchase.

Regarding my intention to purchase furniture, I would like a single bed, a

kitchen table, four chairs, a cupboard for clothes, a bookcase and a
wooden cabinet. If you sell home appliances, I would like a microwave
oven, a television set and a rice cooker. The furniture must be in good
condition and the electronic goods must be branded products with at least
six-months' valid warranty remaining.

I would really appreciate if you could inform me of the availability of those

items along with their prices and details. I hope you can offer a good
bargain as I am looking for something cheap. If you do not supply electrical
goods, can you recommend another shop which does? Also, could you let
me know when can I come and inspect the items in person?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,
Garcia Hall
You recently stayed in a hotel in a large city. The weather was very unusual
for the time of year and the heating/cooling system in the hotel was quite
inadequate.
Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
• give details of what was wrong
• explain what you had to do to overcome the problem at the time
• say what action you would like the manager to take
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have recently stayed at your hotel -Pan Pacific Perth, in room 324 for
three nights. I am writing to inform you that the room heating was
ineffectual and despite a great location and friendly staff, I have had a bad
experience staying at your hotel. I am hoping you would repair the central
heating system so that no guest suffers due to the extreme weather.

I stayed at your hotel from 25th May till 27th May and had an excruciating
experience as your heating system in my room did not work as expected.
The temperature in the city was somewhat unexpected and fell below 7°
Celcius during this period. When I found that the room temperature was not
comfortable, I called the front desk executive and despite his promise,
nothing was done.

Because of the extreme cold in the room, I had to wear socks and a knit
hat, take an additional blanket and put on the electric stove all night.
Consequently, I got very little sleep over the three nights.

I think it would be a good idea to repair the central heating system and be
prepared for the unusual weather. A room heating system for each room
along with the central heating system in the winter would certainly make the
rooms more comfortable. Perhaps you would consider giving me a discount
if I stay at your hotel next time.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,
Walker Luise
As part of a student social survey project, you are organising a group to
visit a historical exhibition in a small town. Write a letter asking for
information regarding such things as the contents of the exhibition, and the
dates of its opening and closing, and if there are any discounts available.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am an A-level student from R.V. College of Arts, Bangalore. As part of the

student social survey project, we are planning to visit the historical
exhibition that you are arranging in your town. I am writing to you to seek
further details on the exhibition.

I understand this is a historical exhibition but could you please elucidate on

its content, such as, is there any particular period in history that this
exhibition focuses on? What is the highlights of the exhibition and how
students can benefit from visiting it? Could you also apprise me of the
exhibition dates and timings? Will it be closed on weekends?

As I mentioned, I am planning this tour for a group of student, so would it

be possible for us to get any discount on group booking or perhaps for
students? If so please notify me what percent of discount we can be eligible
for.

I would be highly obliged if you could provide these details at your earliest
so that I can start making the transport and accommodation arrangements.

Thank you in advance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,
Prashant Kaur
You celebrated your birthday with some friends last week in a restaurant. It
was a great success and you and your friends enjoyed the evening very
much.
Write a letter to the restaurant to thank them. Mention the food, service and
the atmosphere. Also, suggest any improvements to make things better.

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the service you offered on 30th

December when I visited your restaurant along with my friends to celebrate
my birthday. It was one of the most memorable birthday events in my life
and your staff made it even more special by offering a complimentary
birthday cake.

You have definitely won me as one of your permanent customers and I

would love to recommend your restaurant to my acquaintances. The
atmosphere inside the restaurant was very soothing and relaxing. Beautiful
interior and wonderful and accurately placed lighting system - neither too
bright nor too dim make this place a perfect spot for celebrations. The taste
of the food was just out of the world. Allow me to say that you made me
nostalgic as the food tasted similar to what my mother cooks for me back at
home, though this made me miss my home and mother more!

However, I have a suggestion to make. You may think of introducing some

discount cards or offer some corporate discounts to the people of the
nearby area. This, I believe, would make our dine-outs more pocket-
friendly.

I hope that you would consider this suggestion. Once again, big thanks to
you and your staff for making my birthday more distinctive.

Yours faithfully,
Pooja Gupta
Write a letter to the Information Officer at the TAPE Information Office
asking for information about the Tertiary Preparation Certificate.
Describe your educational background and your reasons for wanting to do
the course.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to request some information regarding your Tertiary

Preparation Certificate programme which I am planning to pursue this term.
I am hoping you would provide necessary details so that I can intake the
course.

Regarding my education qualification, I have finished my high school

diploma from the Montessori Elementary School in Baguio, the Philippines,
three years ago and my major was science. I received 76% marks in my
school final exam.

Now I want to get admitted to a reputed university for higher studies in the
UK and for that I want to enroll in this course. I am convinced that the
tertiary preparation course at your institution would greatly help me in my
university education.

For that, I need to know the course duration, tuition fee and admission
procedure for the Tertiary Preparation Certificate programme. I am planning
to take the architectural study in a reputed UK university and would really
appreciate if you inform me of the courses I should take. Finally, do inform
me the document checklist for getting admission.

Thank you in advance. I look forward to your kind response regarding my

concerns.

Yours faithfully,

You took your family to a nearby restaurant. You were disappointed with
the meal and wish to complain to the manager.
Write a letter to the manager of the restaurant. In your letter,

» explain why you were at the restaurant

» describe the problems
» write about the action you want the manager to take
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a regular diner at your restaurant on the Madison Avenue. I am writing

to express my discontent with the meal that I and my family had at your
restaurant last Thursday. I am hoping that you would take actions to
improve your food quality and maintain your reputation.

Recently, I have been promoted to the Senior Internal Auditor in my office

and to celebrate this event, I took my family out to one of your outlets on
Madison Avenue. We ordered four servings of shrimp fried rice, but we
were shocked to discover that the shrimp in our serving was undercooked
and had a pungent odour. After complaining about it to the supervisor, we
were told that the restaurant had run out of shrimps - not a valid excuse for
a distinguished restaurant like yours. You can understand my frustration
when my family and I had to leave the restaurant empty stomach and
disappointment.

My intention in writing this letter is to ask you to issue a show cause notice
to the supervisor at your restaurant, and disseminate instructions to all your
staff to hold a modicum of buffer stock for every item, just in case the
restaurant runs out of that item and so that no customer experiences a
humiliation.

Yours faithfully,
Muhammad Sameed
You work at home and have a problem with a piece of equipment that you
use for your job.
Write a letter to the shop or company which supplied the equipment. In
your letter
• describe the problem with the equipment
• explain how this problem is affecting your work
• say what you want the shop or company to do
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about a Wireless Router that I bought from your

store a few months ago. Unfortunately, it has suddenly stopped working
and I am unable to connect to the Internet and work from home. I am
hoping you would replace it immediately.

The Netgear - AC1750 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router that I purchased from you
was operational until the end of last week but it is not working at the
moment. I cannot find out the exact reason for it not to function but I have
tried to do some initial diagnostics without any luck. I tried a similar router
that I borrowed from a friend and it worked as expected.
I work from home as a freelancer and my work depends on an
uninterrupted Internet connection. I have several ongoing projects and I
must meet the deadlines to retain my client base. As you can see, I am
totally dependent on this equipment to get connected to the Internet, so I
need to get this router fixed immediately. I suggest that you either replace
the device with a new one or repair it within the next two days.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
Denis Brian
You are not happy about a service you received a couple of days ago from
a company and you have decided to complain about it.
Write a letter to the company to complain about the poor service you
received from its employee. In your letter, express:
• why you went to the shop/office
• how the employees behaved to offend you
• what you expect the company to do
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to register a complaint with you regarding a poor service, and

the rude attitude by your stuff that I experienced last Monday when I visited
your shop. I am hoping you would take proper steps so that no other
customer feel humiliated the way I did.

I want to your shop on Monday, 24th November, with the intention of

purchasing a microwave oven for my home. While I was in your shop, not a
single employee approached and offered me any assistance! They were
watching a soap opera on the television and were fully focused on the
show. I decided to ask one of the employees for help but he showed no
interest to help me. He was actually rude when I asked him what type of
microwave oven were available in the shop and if he could assist me. He
pointed out his finger to another employee and this gesture was extremely
awkward. I wasn't there to ask a favour, rather purchase a product and the
unprofessional employees you have are surely going to cost your business.

I regret to have been in your shop and will never be there. However, you
should know how poorly your staffs treat your customers. I am hoping you
would take initiatives to offer better customer experience in the future by
hiring more professional employees.

Yours faithfully,
Irene Byers
People in your area are having problems with their internet connection.
Write a letter to the company which provides the connection.
In your letter
• describe the problems
• explain how they are affecting people
• say what the company should do to help
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my discontent with the internet connection that your

company provides in our area. The disruptive internet connection is
causing a great problem for us and I am hoping you would resolve it as
soon as possible.

Your company is supposed to provide technology that guarantees

uninterrupted internet connection. However, this does not seem to be the
case. For the last couple of weeks, we are experiencing extremely slow
connectivity and sometimes the internet is totally unreachable. During the
peak hours, the internet speed is as slow as a few KB per second only.

Many people in our area, including my husband, work from home and a
disruptive internet connection means they are unable to work. Due to poor
connectivity, they can’t send finished assignments to their clients on time.
Frequent disconnections also affect people who do video conferencing
online. Besides, we are often unable to do online shopping, send important
emails and pay utility bills online.

I expected that the situation will be dealt with the highest importance
without any delay. Please send your staff to come over and check if you
need to install new cables since they might be fairly old. Take any other
measure necessary to resolve the slow connectivity.

Expecting a prompt resolution from you.

Yours faithfully,
Rebecca Porter
You recently attended a meeting at a hotel. When you returned home, you
found you had left some important papers at the hotel.
Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
• say where you think you left the papers
• explain why they are so important
• tell the manager what you want him/her to do
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have recently attended a business conference at your hotel 'Rosewood

London' and regrettably misplaced some important documents in the room
I syated in. I am hoping you would be kind enough to give me a call once
you have it.

I syated in your hotel from 24th to 25th October in room 524 and attended a
conference at the Business Meeting Hall on 24th October. I departed the
next day and just after I reached Manchester, I noticed that I have left those
documents unattended in my hotel room, perhaps inside the drawer that
was placed beside my bed. All of those documents are placed inside a blue
folder with my name ‘Mike Buchanan’ written on top of it.

In particular, these documents are extremely important to me. They contain

some confidential financial information about my company, a presentation
and some notes that I took during the conference. Without those
documents, I would not in a great trouble. I need to submit a few of these
papers to my company before the end of this month.

I would request you to ask your staff to conduct a thorough search in the
room and then hold this folder in your possession. Please give me a call at
0161-508745124578 once you have it. I will arrange someone to collect it
for me or perhaps fly to London to receive it personally.

Thank you in advance for your kind help.

Yours faithfully,
Mike Buchana
There have been some problems with the public transport you use to
commute daily.
Write a letter to the manager of the public transport company. In your letter:
• describe the problems
• explain how these problems are affecting you and others
• suggest what could be done about it
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a regular user of your transportation service and take your buses to

travel to and from my office. I am writing to bring to your attention a few
critical issues inflicted upon me and other commuters who use your
service. I am hoping you would address these issues promptly.

First, during the last couple of weeks, your buses are making reoccurring
delays and this is affecting our arrival in our workplaces on time. To add
more grief, a few buses do not arrive at all. A number of times, I had to wait
for more than an hour and then hail a taxi to reach my office. Finally, some
buses are full when they arrive and cannot take any more passenger from
the Victoria Stand. This situation forces me and many other travellers to
either take the congested bus and stand all the way in a miserable
condition or wait for the next bus. I believe this would reduce people's trust
in your service.

I suggest that you add a few more transport to accommodate the

passengers and manage the timetable rigidly.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
John Andrews
You have taken a cruise on a holiday and have been disappointed with the
experience.
Write a letter to the cruise provider. In your letter say:
- what went wrong
- how you felt about it
- what do you want to be done about it

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have recently taken a cruise provided by your company on a holiday in

Belarus. But the experience was below standard. I am writing to bring your
attention to this unsatisfactory experience that I had with the Rose Cruises
on October 27, 2018.

Regrettably, the boat was battered and small - contrary to what was
advertised. It departed at least 40 minutes later than the scheduled time.
Moreover, it was cold inside but when all the passengers boarded, the
windows became drizzled due to poor ventilation, which made it impossible
to enjoy the views.

Furthermore, even though we were promised a private table, we could not

find one and no one came forward to explain it! The place was so crowded
that we had a hard time moving from one place to another. Enough service
persons were not present and we had to wait around 30 minutes to get our
breakfast which was served cold. This was a stressful experience for both
me and my wife.

I do not feel that is unreasonable to expect a full refund of the money paid
to you following the misrepresentation of what Rose Cruises were offering.
We expect, therefore, a refund of the full €300.

Yours faithfully,
Tom Behan
You have recently ordered an item through the Internet, but you are not
happy with the product.
Write to the company. In your letter:
• describe what you purchased
• explain why you are not happy with the product
• tell them what you would like them to do about it
You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Two weeks ago I ordered a leather wallet from your online store. I was
excited when it arrived but very disappointed to find that the product was
poorly made and unusable. I am hoping that you will replace it soon.

In relation to the specifics of the order, I purchased this leather wallet

through your website called Fashion Era on July 27th using my PayPal
account. The order number is W34405 and I am attaching a copy of my
receipt.

The issue with the wallet is that the credit card pockets are sewn shut and I
am unable to store my cards inside securely. The picture of the item on
your website clearly shows cards safely stored in the little pouches so I’m
sure this is a manufacturing flaw. Besides, I ordered a brown wallet but to
my surprise the delivered product is black!

As a solution, and because I really like the wallet, I am hoping that you will
agree to send me another one for free. Otherwise, I would like a full refund
and I will be contacting PayPal complaints if I do not hear back from you in
regards to this within a week.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
Adam Water
You recently read an article in the newspaper about someone you know
personally. You found some information is wrong.
Write a letter to the editor to inform him about it. In your letter, write:
• what the article is about
• what the error is
• what you expect the editor to do
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Stephen Ben, a resident of Brooklyn, New York, and I am writing

regarding an article I read on 24th November that was a great read but
unfortunately had some incorrect information and facts. The article was
basically about professor Albert, a renowned professor at Fordham
University whom I personally know.

First of all, I must state that the article was quite interesting and it gave
many insights on how research in local universities can contribute to the
national interest and how Professor Albert had been a pioneer on that. I,
however, was daunted to notice some blunders in the article that I deem
should not have been overlooked. I have been a research assistant for
Professor Albert for more than 3 years and we are still in touch.

The fact that Mr Albert is from Germany is incorrect as he is originally from

the UK. He achieved his graduation from an American university, not from
Australia. Moreover, he is not a father of 4 children, but three. Finally, the
bio-hazard digression project that was credited solely to him was actually
conducted with the assistance of another professor from the same
university. He is Professor Gill and he should have been credited for the
work as well.

I wish a follow-up article or an editorial correction should clarify those

issues as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
Stephen Ben
You recently went shopping at the local supermarket. When you got home
and noticed your bill, you found that you had been charged for items you
did not purchase.
Write a letter to the supermarket manager explaining what has happened.
Tell the manager how you feel about the error and tell the manager what
you would like him/her to do about it.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a regular customer of your shop and went there earlier today to do

some shopping. I am quite disappointed to notice that I was billed for items
that I did not purchase at all. Unfortunately, I noticed it only when I returned
home. I am hoping that you would rectify the issue.

I visited your shop at around 9.30 am on Sunday, July 2018 and purchased
a number of items. I paid my bill to a young lady who was managing the
cash queue 4. I gave her my VISA credit card and was charged 142 dollars
and 25 cents for all of my items. The counter was unusually busy and I did
not have enough time to crosscheck the amount of the goods I purchased.
When I got back home and studied the bill, I noticed some errors. I was
charged for each item I bought and in addition, for a pair of socks, 100-
gram cheese, a bottle of shampoo and one-kilo apple. I double checked
whether they actually packed those items for me and there were nowhere
to be found! As I observed, I was 24.75 dollar overcharged for the items I
have not purchased.

I am attaching the receipt for your consideration and would like you to
refund my amount next time I visit your mall. A mistake like this is not
acceptable from a shop like yours. Please take necessary steps to rectify
this error and make sure it does not happen again.

I look forward to getting a reply from you promptly.

Thanking you,
Gazelle Nilla
You are a student at a university in the UK. You have recently lost your
university ID card. Write to the local police station, giving details of who you
are, what happened and ask to record your details so that you can apply for
a new ID card.
Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Sherin Emma, a second-year student at the University of Liverpool

and my major is Economics. I am writing to report a lost identification card
that I was provided by my university.

I respectfully state that on 21st December, I went to the local stadium to

enjoy a music concert and had been there from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm. After I
returned to my room, at around 7.40 in the evening, I could not find my
University ID. I am positive that I had it with me when I entered the stadium.
I must have missed it during the concert.

I immediately notified the occurrence to the university dean and he

suggested me to report it to the police station and have a copy of the report
to apply for a new ID card. I waited two days in hope that someone might
find it and return it to the university but that did not happen. Now I would
like you to officially record the incidence of my lost ID card so that I can
collect a copy and apply for a new one. The ID has my name - Sherin
Emma and number LUA-45874E, inscribed on it and is valid until 30th
November 2020.

I would be much obliged if you kindly register my lost ID case and provide
me with a copy of that to help me get a new one.

Yours faithfully,
Sherin Emma
You normally go shopping in the area where you live. However, you think
some of the facilities for shoppers could be improved.
Write a letter to your local newspaper. In your letter:
• say in general what you like about shopping in your area
• say what is wrong with the facilities
• suggest how they can be improved
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my opinion about the local shopping area
where I frequently go shopping. They offer some really nice amenities but
there are still scopes for improvements. I am hoping you would publish it in
your newspaper so that the market authority learn about it and take
initiatives to develop the area.

To start with, the Agora Community Shopping Complex is the largest

shopping market in our town where several thousand people shop every
day. The strictly monitored market price and the availability of the products
under a single roof are two attractive aspects of this market. Moreover, I
like the way the shops are arranged on each floor. Overall, I am happy with
this market and visit it almost twice to thrice each month.

Regrettably, most of the shoppers still do not accept international credit

cards. I have seen many tourists suffer due to this. Since this is a tourists
area and many foreigners visit this market, the international credit cards
should be accepted by all merchants. Besides, the food court area is really
compact and cannot serve many customers at a time. One has to stand in
a cue for a long even for a cup of tea! This area should be extended and
more food businesses should be encouraged to open new shops for the
convenience of shoppers.

I think your newspaper is widely read in our area and if you run a poll
regarding the issues I mentioned, you will find a realistic picture of it.
Please publish an editorial and help improve the local people's shopping
experience. Thank you in advance for giving the matter your attention.

Yours faithfully,
Mark Almond
You feel the evening programs on a local television station are
uninteresting.
Write a letter to the manager of the television station. In your letter
• explain why you do not like the current programs
• describe what kind of programs you would like to see instead
• explain why these programs are better
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regards to the evening programs which are currently being

telecast on your TV channel. As per the current schedule of the evening
slot, most of the programs are boring and unexciting. It would be great if
you can reschedule some of these programs and introduce more exciting
and absorbing programs in the evening time.

Most of these programs of the evening slot are in the category of soap
opera and the target audiences are mostly adult women. If this slot had
more family entertainment programs like comedy, magic show, reality show,
children-oriented programs, or documentaries, it would have been more
captivating for audiences of all ages. I believe by introducing this variety of
programs into the evening slot, your channel can attract more viewers and
well as advertisers. Since audiences of a specific age group enjoy your
evening programs, you must be missing some advertising opportunities.

Evening time in each family is considered to be the reunion time. Children

join their parents after completing a long day in school and in the same way
parents also return home after a tiring day in office. So every member of
the family prefers being in the living room in the evening as their meeting
place and the television is their medium for relaxation and entertainment.
Now if your channel can telecast my proposed list of programs, it will cover
the interest of everyone in the family.

I hope my request is valid and logical enough to draw your attention.

Please reconsider your current evening programmes which are being
broadcast.

Yours faithfully,
Nilay Das
You have been working in a company for many years and have noticed that
new employees often leave your company. Now write a letter to your higher
authority and suggest the possible reasons for that and ways to retain
them.
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is John Desuja and I am working for this company for

approximately 2 decades. I am writing to express my concerns in relation to
the current scenario of low staff retention in our company, especially with
regard to younger and relatively new recruits. I would like to share my ideas
to improve the retention rate.

One of the main reason behind this high attrition rate is the lack of
opportunities in terms of professional advancement, according to those
who left our company during the last two years, which I think should be well
taken care of. A team of experts may think of different strategies towards
this, which should bring out programs to enhance skills, providing different
job titles and look into the promotional aspects for young employees.

Another important reason, which one of our employees shared with me at

an exit interview, is the dearth of open communication between the
management and the workforce, which needs to be improved by providing
them with a platform to air their concerns and suggestions, and ensuring
that these are well acted upon. Furthermore, the work-life balance of the
employees may be observed closely for betterment.

Finally, I would like to suggest that appreciation of work on a regular basis

can also work magic.

I look forward to a positive step in this direction to improve employee

retention in our company.

Yours Faithfully,
John Desuja
You work for a company and have recently decided to leave your current
employment.
Write a letter to your employer. In your letter
• explain why you are writing
• explain why you have decided to leave the company
• tell your employer what you plan to do after leaving your present
employment.
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

I have been working in your company as a software engineer since 2015

and it is an absolute honour to have been a part of this great company. I
am writing to inform you that I have decided to discontinue my service
effective from September 01, 2018. As per my employment agreement, I
am giving one month's notice prior to leaving, dated from today.

It was a tough decision for me because of the opportunity and recognition I

have received so far. It was a perfect and conducive working environment
that has an undeniable impression on me. However, I have recently
accepted a job in Australia and need to move there in three months. My
family lives there and I had been planning to be with them for a long.

I will settle in Australi and work as a software engineer there. This would
help me stay close to my family and further enhance my career.

I would like to show my gratitude to all who have helped me in my journey.

Yours faithfully,
Fahad Sultan
Your local hospital has advertised people to do unpaid work helping at the
hospital. You would like to do some work at the hospital in your free time.
Write a letter to the hospital. In your letter
• explain why you would like to do unpaid work at the hospital
• say what type of unpaid work you would be able to do
• give details of when you would be available for this work
You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

In response to a recent advertisement broadcast on TV, I would like to offer

myself as an enlistee for the unpaid work at your hospital. I consider this a
great chance to serve the patients and best utilise my spare time for
humanitarian works. I am hoping that you would let me offer my service.

My parents are doctors and they devote their professional lives to serve
people and the society as a whole. I am highly inspired by them and want
to do something of my own for people who need care. What can be a better
place to assist people than a hospital? Moreover, I have around two hours
to spare each day in the evening and I live nearby. I would like to best use
the superfluous hours of my daily routine in philanthropic work. I have
previous experiences of doing some voluntary works for our community.

I can assist a professional nurse, take care of babies, help patients to move
and bring them meals. I am, in reality, ready to learn to do any type of work
to help people in this hospital. I can work from 5:00 pm to 7.00 pm every
day except on Saturday.

Hope you hear your positive response and start my work soon.

Yours faithfully,
Sara Sandler
You were hurt in a minor accident inside a supermarket and you wish to
complain to the supermarket authority about that.
Write a letter to the manager of the supermarket. In your letter
• say who are you
• give details about the accident
• suggest how the supermarket could prevent similar accidents
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Two days ago I went to your supermall to do some shopping and got
injured by a minor accident. I am writing to inform you how this accident
took place and what you can do to prevent such accidents in the future. I
am hoping that you would take steps so that no other shopper fall victim to
similar incidents.

I am Shahin Shah and I live within 400 metres of your supermall. I have
been a loyal customer to your business for more than 4 years.

In relation to the specifics of the event, I went to your store to buy some
fresh vegetables and fruits on 27th September at around 7.30 pm. Just
after I took a shopping cart, a woman with her groceries collided with me. I
cannot say that it was entirely her fault as she was over 70 years old and
sufficient light was not present at that corner of the mall. In addition, the
floor was slippery. So, this unavoidable accident occurred as the lack of
attention by your management. Though this was a minor accident, it could
have been worse!

Hundreds of people, including children and senior citizens go shopping to

your mall every day. It is your responsibility to maintain this place to avoid
such a mishap. Please arrange more electric bulbs at that corner of your
shop and dry the wet floor immediately to avoid the unexpected accidents.

I hope you will give immediate attention to this matter.

Yours faithfully,
Shahin Shah
Your local newspaper wants to reward people who have contributed a lot to
the community.
Write a letter to the newspaper. In your letter:
• suggest someone who deserves the reward
• mention what they have done to help the community
• say what reward you would like to give this person
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a resident of Kensington, Melbourne, writing to express my

appreciation for your decision to reward people who have selflessly helped
others and brought positive changes to the community. I would like to
recommend someone for the award who has contributed immensely to
make our community a better place.

Mr Albenny, a retired government officer, also knows as the pioneer of the

green movement in our community, deserves the award more than anyone
else. He has been working on the Green Movement project for more than
20 years and has since inspired a thousand others to plant trees and save
the environment. His dedication is inspiring and three years ago our
community received a national recognition due to the green movement
pioneered by Mr Albenny. He is a highly revered person who is equally
loved by his friends and foes.

I personally believe that you should consider him for the award you are
intending to present to people with their great contributions to the
community. What can be more inspiring when someone's actions motivate
hundreds of others to make the world a better place to live in? A simple
crest or a trophy as the award would suffice, but you should make the
award giving ceremony open for all.

Once again thank you for your time and initiative.

Yours faithfully,
Helena Gomez
You bought a new HD television last week. At first, it seemed to work
perfectly but after a few hours a line appeared across the TV and the sound
seemed a little strange. You cannot take the TV back to the shop so you
have decided to write to them.
Write a letter of complaint to the shop. In your letter,
• give them the background information
• describe the problem
• ask them to resolve the issue
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Mr Bruce,

Three days ago I purchased an LG smart TV from your store. I was excited
when I bought it from your store but very disappointed to find that only after
a few hours, the product malfunctioned. I am sure it was poorly produced
and I am hoping you would send someone to my house to check it and
then replace it.

In relation to the specifics of the order, I purchased a 54-inch LG smart HD

TV from your brand shop located in the Tandridge District on August 14th
using my Visa credit card. The order number is 5874210 and I am attaching
a copy of my receipt.

The issue with the TV is that a black line appears across the TV screen.
Though it disappears after a while, it emerges again if the TV is on for a
couple of hours. Moreover, the sound quality is strange and it has nothing
to do with the audio settings. The TV is now unusable and I’m sure this is a
manufacturing flaw.

As a solution, and because I really like the functionality of the TV, I am

hoping that you will agree to send someone to my house to check it and
then replace it with a new one. Otherwise, I would like a full refund.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply
soon.

Yours faithfully,
Isabella Evelyn
Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it
runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
• give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
• explain why the centre is important for the local community
• describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a resident of the Alperton, London area, writing to request you to

reconsider your decision to close the sport and leisure centre we have in
our community. I am hoping that you would weigh the utility of this centre
before shutting it down.

As you know, we have more than 8 thousand members in our community

and only two such leisure and sporting centres. When we are expecting
another recreational centre for the benefits of the community members, the
decision to shut down the 'Innercircle Sports & Leisure Centre' was a
shocking news. I and my father go to this place to do our daily exercise.
Besides, I have noticed many children play there in the evening and local
people spend a significant amount of time there. Many teenagers have
chosen this place to play some indoor games and spend quality times.

If this place is closed, people would feel dejected and I personally worry
that the teenagers who use this centre would get involved in subversive
activities. This is not at all accepted. If cutting the cost is the only reason to
close this centre, I am sure there are alternatives. I have talked to several
other members and all of them are against closing this place.

Please do reconsider your decision for the betterment of our community.

Yours faithfully,
Patrick Stuart
