Good Morning, I am PG Olivier Bulfa, a graduate of Silliman University, a Certified

Public Accountant, and I'm only here because of four scholarships (from High School
to College, one of them being a Kalauman scholarship), a large educational loan,
and lots of prayers.

The thing is, my story and testimonies like these are only relevant because they
don't happen often enough.

Yes, the narrative of "poor kid trying to rise from the ashes of poverty through
education" is an overused one, but people sometimes forget that not all of those
narratives become happily ever afters.

Some of these kids eventually find that school is a leech of resources with a
loooong wait before a return of investment (before, for us, it was 14 years, that
is, if you didn't get to repeat a year, now in k-12 it's much longer). Some find
that working as a minimum-wage laborer is much more productive than spending money
for a venture that would take lots of years to benefit you.

If I didn't have the support of the generous foundation of Kalauman and its
associates, and the constant, unending encouragement of my family, I, too, might be
in a much more laborious job working for meager coins.

And it's sad to think about it--how many talented individuals don't get a chance to
hone and earn from their talents because of a culture of money, money, money. It's
sad to think that even with the vast number of scholarships, 3.8 million youths are
still out of access to a proper education.

This testimony, as you might have observed, is not for my own "success"--because
what is mY "SUCCESS" in the face of close to 4 million youth's defeat?

I guess this testimony is more of an emphasis on how, each and every one of us
present today, are MAJORLY fortunate we can afford a ride to here, we can afford to
understand, comprehend and speak English, we can afford to be in our sunday's
best--because of the satisfactorily-paying jobs we acquired from our education--or
our parents'.This is an emphasis, how, taking the factor of money out, there are
millions of intelligent, hardworking, vibrant souls like us who don't get see it in
themseves because they don't have a Kalauman there for them.

I have been personally shown how many lives Miss Lyann and KDC changed, touched,
healed, aided--how much of a difference a "passing forward of blessings" makes.

Aside from a testimony, this is a call to action. A call to open our eyes and look
beyond ourselves--and our own successes--to see those unfortunate souls who deserve
the victories we take for granted. Open our eyes to the gift we have, and the gift
we could bring to the ones who don't have it.

I am PG Olivier Bulfa, a graduate of Sillian University, a Certified Public

Accountant, oonly here because of four scholarships, a large educational loan, lots
of prayers.

I am PG Olivier Bulfa and I am fortunate--unlike the 3.8 million other youths.

I am PG Olivier Bulfa, a result of generosity and love--and a testimony of what

generosity and love can do in the face of misfortune.
