These adverbs of time indicates future : tomorrow,today,later today,in ten

minutes,in three hours,on Sunday,on Wednesday morning,next week/month,this


year,etc. But how do we express ‘’future tense’’ in English? Let’s study!

The formula of simple future tense is: will+the base form of the verb (will cook,will shop etc.) In negative form,ins-
tead of using ‘’will+not’’,we can simply say ‘‘won’t’’.When we use ‘’will’’? We use it to express an action which is
likely to happen in the future.(Example: I will probably go with him./Perhaps she will come with us.) We use it to express
our opinions about the future.(Example: I believe that she will win the election./I hope that things will get
better.) We use it to express our responses,decisions or suggestions which are formed at the time of speaking.
(Example: It is hot,I will open the window./I will have a cup of coffee,please.)
The following sentences are in simple future tense ‘’will’’ form.Read the sentences and explain why briefly.
a) I don’t think that people will live in another planet in the future. ……………………………………………………………………

Another formula of simple future tense is : be going to+the base form of the verb (she is going to visit/they are going
to attend etc.) When we use ‘’be going to’’? We use it if there is an evidence for a future event.(Example: There are
grey clouds.It is going to rain.)We use it to talk about future plans and intentions which have been made before the
moment of speaking.(Example: I am going to move to İstanbul. - there is an intention,this is my decision.)
The following sentences are in simple future tense ‘’be going to’’form.Read the sentences and explain why briefly.
a) The man is driving very fast and carelessly,he is going to have an accident. ………………………………………………….

We can use present continuous for expressing future.We use it to talk about future plans and intentions that have
been arranged to be done at a specific time.These are fixed plans with definite time or place.(Example: I am moving
to Istanbul. - it has been planned and arranged in detail.)
The following sentences are in present continuous form.Read the sentences and explain why briefly.
