SETTINGS:
In the British Isles, where the tribes of Britons lived. We will show that the country was agrarian and
that the people used to exchange goods with the northern Gaul. They will do the trades at a seaside
setting, or what they call the “Channel,” which was believed to be an ocean.

PROLOGUE
The land of Britain is known for its long history, its historical Castles and houses, educational
institutes and even their famous people. But before this, how did they used to live? What did their
land look like?
Before the Roman Conquest took place, they were divided into tribes and lived simply. Farming
was their main way of living, and they were called the Celts or native Britons. They also used to
exchange goods with Gaul (now called France) at the seaside or what they called “The Channel.”
They became good allies and helped each other in terms of resources. (Show Julius Caesar with
an assistant telling him about Britain, helping Gaul.
Julius Caesar’s presence was not originally because of his idea to conquer the Britain; it was
because of the intense trade between the Britons and the Gaul, which was under their power at
that time; other historians claim that it was due to his ego.
(Caesar will summon merchants of Gaul who were trading with Britons, but they will not tell him
anything about it.)
Due to this, Caesar summoned Gaul merchants who were trading with the Britons but they were
unable to share any information with him about the Britain’s inhabitants and their military
tactics, because they do not want to lose their monopoly on cross-channel trade.
(Caesar will talk with his tribune Gaius, who will go to the British Isles and will be terrified to leave
the ship. Then, he will go back to Rome.)
Julius was not satisfied and he sent his tribune, Gaius Volusenus to scout in a single warship to
examine the British Isles, but “did not dare leave his ship and entrust himself to the barbarians.”
After 5 days, he returned to report to Caesar.
(Some British ambassadors will go to Rome to promise their submission, but they will be
accompanied with Caesar’s ally to encourage mote other states to surrender.)
Meanwhile, the other ambassadors of some of the British states that were warned by the
merchants for the impending invasion of Rome went to the Romans to promise their submission,
but Caesar will send them back along with his ally Commius, king of the Gallic Atrebates, to use
their influence to win over as many other states as possible.
Along with this, Caesar started planning for his First Invasion, where he brought two legions,
aiming to win over the Britons.

SCENE 1: FIRST INVASION (Julius Caesar along with Commius will land near the seaside, but will
be threatened by the Britons gathered on the overlooking hills and cliffs watching them.)

British Army Leader/Commander: Ullaich, Prepare everyone a h-uile duine, our enemies have
arrived and no single one of you must fire without my command.

(The 7 soldiers will whisper and tell others what their commander said. There will be 9 soldiers in
total including the commander and assistant.)

SCENE 2: (The setting will be in a forest where the Britons will arrest Commius.)

SCENE 3: (The Romans settled near the seaside and it is already dark.)

backstage, so that we won’t need to destroy it literally; we could just create other ones as broken
pieces of the ship.)
(When the lights turn back on, we will show the Romans at the seaside along with their scattered
equipments.)
(The Romans will fail to go back and they will all look wet by the sea water. As they were recovering
from the shipwreck, the British soldiers will attack them. The Roman army will fight back and will
be helped by the pro-Roman soldiers and they will send the Britons back. When other Roman soldiers
will try to follow the Britons, Julius will stop them.)
Julius: Prohibere! Do not follow them; we should not lose more men. We will slay them all when
we come back; omnes interficere (omnes iterfichere). What we need to do now is to prepare for
greater attack. Commius (Komyo), quis sunt?

SCENE 4: SECOND INVASION

(Caesar will prepare five legions for a larger army and ships to be prepared and be more suitable
for any beach landing. As they land, Caesar will leave Quintus Atrius in charge of the beach-head.)
Julius: Now, we are stronger, per comitem maior, et ex certa victoria; we will kill all the Britons.

SCENE 5: (Julius, along with the 20 Roman soldiers will look for the camp of the British soldiers
while Quintus will be left at the beach with 5 Roman soldiers.)
(The Romans will meet the Britons, led by Cassivellaunus, in the forest and they will defeat the British
soldiers, who will go back to camp.)
(2 Roman Soldiers will die and 15 British soldiers will die)
(After the fight, a Roman soldier from the beach will report to Caesar.)

Cassivellaunus will command his remaining 7 men to go back and he will send them to Julius as
hostages to surrender.)

SCENE 1: Continuation of invasion under Emperor Claudius
43 AD the Emperor Claudius resumed the work of Caesar by ordering the invasion of Britain
under the command of Aulus Plautius.
Claudius: Scimus Julius Caesar, quod factum est ad Britanniam annō vincet. Armis opus virtutis
florere necesse erit omnino Britanniam invadere quisquam sperare poterat honore (We know
what Julius Caesar has done to conquer the Britain. We need a military success to thrive in power,
we need to invade the Britain completely and that will be the greatest honour any Roman could
hope for)

SCENE 2: Crossing and Landing on the East Coast of Kent

SCENE 3: Caratacus escaped and fled to Wales where he set up his resistance base

In Kingdom of Rome, Claudius sits while reading (voice over: Claudii conquestum fuisse victoriam

SCENE 4: Claudius arrived with reinforcement

SCENE 5: Caratacus defeated and captured / Roman Conquest the Britain completely
(will show Caracatus together with his allies to a certain tribe)

SCENE 6: Agricola Invaded Scotland

The Governor of Britain, Agricola, attempted to conquer Scotland for Rome but was
unsuccessful.
During the 70’s and 80’s the Romans, under the command of Gnaeus Julius Agricola
extended their control into northern and western England. Legions were located at York, Chester
and Caerleon marking the limits of the ‘Civil Zone’. Agricola moved northwards defeating the
Caledonian tribes under the leadership of Calgacus at the battle of Mons Graupius in present day
northeastern Scotland. The Romans gradually gave up their conquests in Scotland until in 122 AD

SCENE 9: Romans begin to leave Britain

All Romans had been recalled to Rome and the Emperor Honorius told the people of
Britain that they no longer had a connection to Rome and that they should defend themselves.
Emperor Honorius: Omnes milites Romam mittunt. Dominus det nobis ad petitionem Britanniae
esse independens. (Send all the soldiers back to Rome. We will grant the request of the British to
be independent.)
Soldier: Ita, imperatoris (Yes, emperor) (Emperor will give a message through his soldier in Britain)
Soldier: conveniendos, imperator misit ad omnes (gather here, an emperor sent a message to all
of you) (reading the letter) Sicut est hodie Britannia Romam est, non coniunctae. Nec iam
Romanorum defendere contra Pictos et Scotos Francorum Saxonumque. (As of today, Britain is no
longer connected to Rome. It was no longer Roman's duty to defend you against the Picts, Scots,

Roman Chief: When the time comes, I’ll give you all the signal to attack / When the tempus
comes, I’ll give you all the signum to attack
[They started to gather in a circle shape, and movements can be heard through the cracking of
leaves, and twigs]
Roman Soldier 1: We are all going to die / Sumus all going to die
Roman Soldier 2: But at least we die together / sed atleast autem die together
Roman Chief: You both are spineless, pathetic man / You both are spineless, miserum hominem
[Roman troops suddenly saw shadows of a group of people approaching them, a group of Saxon
soldiers lash out their sword to the Roman chief]

[The Saxon Soldier 5 then lash out his sword to the neck of the Roman Soldier]
