INTRODUCTION:

Sewer systems add various structures for the ease of construction and efficiency of
maintenance, thus called as Sewer Appurtenances. Sewer system requires various types of
appurtenances for their proper functioning and maintenance, because simply sewers are laid, the
sewage cannot flow in it continuously for longer time . Sewer appurtenances includes manholes,
catch basin, cleanouts, oil & grease trap, inlets, lamp holes, drop manholes, flushing tanks,
inverted siphons, sewer ventilators.
After some time it will be clogged and requires cleaning of sewers. If sewerage system is
not properly maintained different objects such as silt, ashes, grit, oil, fats, etc. will obstruct the
sewer lines. Therefore, for proper operation and maintenance of sewerage system, sewer
appurtenances are required.
More than 20 million Filipinos still have no access to proper sanitation and sewage
facilities. Only 10% of the population is connected to sewerage systems, according to statistics
from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Most Philippine cities have drainage systems of different kind. There are no separate
storm water and waste water sewerage systems. Wastewater from septic systems freely mixes
with the storm water. In practice this is not as bad as it sounds as the volume of storm water is
large and may well flush out the drainage system and its contents into the streams and rivers.
The installation and maintenance of drainage systems along with roads and water system, is a
one of the major responsibility of local government.
With this, Batangas city poblacion’s sewer system is to be observed by the group to
discuss the areas sewer system, its appurtenances, including the problem the sewer system faces.
LOCATION:
