Filipinos are known for their values and characteristics that lead to the common good. We are the hospitable
people, always willing to help whenever needed; bringing warmth to people from all walks of life. As a
Filipino student, one can only do so much; but nevertheless, do good things still. Personally, I display my
values through simple interactions with people i meet everyday; that is-- giving respect. Young and old alike
are worthy of it, in spite of people saying otherwise.

The Filipino people are family-centered. We maintain close bonds with each member of the family,
sometimes even extending to distant relatives. We keep in touch no matter what, as we are always
concerned with what they are doing, how they are feeling; in general, just what is happening in their lives
in present time. The adults strive to provide for the family, sometimes even so that they forget to spend
time with them. This is manifested by the amount of Filipino workers currently stationed abroad; 2.3
million Filipinos fly overseas yearly instead of working locally. This causes a huge gap in their family
bonds.
The Filipino people are hunters of truth. Although personally, looking at most of the people who run the
government, i wouldn't say much. Even the crime statistics in the Philippines won't say much, either. But
educated Filipinos, actually all races, are, i can say---hunters of truth. We thirst for equality, desperately
trying to alert the society of errors presented to the masses beforehand; crying for peace. All so our future
generations can live with utmost justice, and encourage understanding among all types of people.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
One of the Philippines' assets is its rich nature reserves. Initially, these reserves are well-preserved but
due to urbanization and many more factors, the resources are depleting in a rapid rate. Since the
country's population is also growing exponentially, the demand for housing is ever so
rampant. Therefore, land is utilized and turned into homes to accommodate the masses. Some
resources, beaches, for example, and other tourist spots are destroyed by the people who visit but are
not responsible enough to watch their trash. These pile up and pollute our waters and lands alike. The air
becomes polluted, and the food we harvest is also affected by climate change. For example, the recent
issue about the farmers earning 12.00 per kilo of palay is due to the delayed harvesting caused by el
ninos, a natural phenomena caused by climate change which makes the temperature hotter than
average.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

There are lots of ways we can preserve our resources. Though we are students, we
have a huge impact on pollution. For example, we consume products that utilize plastics
on a daily basis. The most effective solution to that is by going zero waste, however, in
the Philippines it is hard to go zero-waste because very few companies actually
encourage going zero-waste. Also, we are used to using these materials ever since, so
a lot of producers refuse to change their processes. One thing that we can do, though,
is by recycling our trash or by sorting them into biodegradables and non-biodegradables
so that the people who collect our garbage can do something useful with it.
We can also go online to inform and persuade other people to fight for nature. Greta
Thunberg, a 16-year old from Sweden, sparked the Fridays for Future campaign to
make the government aware and encourage them to take a step towards saving the
earth. From only one student in Sweden, her Fridays for Future campaign grew to over
6 million students worldwide. It gave a huge impact to society, exposing idle
government officials and businessmen alike, as well as the mediocre masses.
