Product Information
The Wahoo TICKR X is a heart rate monitor intended for use on or offline with your iOS or Android
smartphone or tablet device, or even your GPS watch. In conjunction with your device, it uses Bluetooth
4.0 and ANT+ technology to track heart rate, calories burned, time, plus distance and pace information.
The TICKR X features built in memory enabling you to train without your smartphone and sync your data
later. It has been optimized for runners and also monitors your running form in three dimensions,
alongside other key running indicators such as cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time. It
can also perform automatic rep counting and pair with the Wahoo Fitness app to capture indoor cycling
cadence and treadmill workouts.
The TICKR X also incorporates the Burn & Burst 8 week training plan to help you reach your fitness goals.

Android
This product is designed for use with Android devices compliant with the Bluetooth 4.0 protocol running
version 4.3 or newer & must allow Third Party App Access to the Bluetooth 4.0 (Smart) Radio.
NOTE: Wahoo Fitness has not tested complete compatibility with all Android devices matching this
description. Please download the app from the Google Play Store to ensure that it installs on your device
before purchasing a product.

Setup
This setup guide is intended to assist with wearing the TICKR X and pairing to the Wahoo Fitness app.

How to wear the TICKR X


1. Snap the sensor into one side of strap.
2. Adjust the strap to fit your chest so when worn it will fit comfortably, but is not loose.
3. Moisten the contact point (the back of the device) on the strap with saliva or electrode gel to
improve conductivity.
4. Wrap the strap around your chest.
5. Snap the other end of the strap into place.

How to Pair your TICKR X to the Wahoo Fitness app (iOS)


1. Download the Wahoo Fitness app from the App Store.
2. Open the Wahoo Fitness app. Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on.
3. Wake up your TICKR X by wearing it on your chest. The TICKR X wakes up when a heartbeat is
present.
4. Select “Sensors” in the bottom left corner.
5. Select “Add New Sensor”.
6. Choose your TICKR X from the list of available sensors.*
7. Once certain you are connected to the correct sensor, select “Save Sensor”.
8. Choose the workout profiles you would like your TICKR X to be active for (ex. Running & Cycling).
9. Select “Done” to complete the pairing & workout selection process.**
10. Select “Done” in the top left corner to exit the Sensors menu.

How to Pair your TICKR X to the Wahoo Fitness app (Android)


1. Download the Wahoo Fitness app from the Google Play Store.
2. Open the Wahoo Fitness app. Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on.

3. Wake up your TICKR X by wearing it on your chest. The TICKR X wakes up when a heartbeat is
present.
4. Select “Saved Devices” in the top right corner.
5. Select the plus “+” icon to add a new sensor.
6. Choose your TICKR X from the list of available sensors.
7. Once certain you are connected to the correct sensor, select “Save Device”.
8. Choose the workout profiles you would like your TICKR X to be active for (ex. Running & Treadmill).
Note: your TICKR X can be used just like a standard Heart Rate Monitor for other activities such as
Cycling or Tennis.
9. Select “Ok” to complete the pairing & workout selection process.
10. Use the Back button to exit the menus and return to the Home Screen.**
Your TICKR X is now set up and ready for action. To use your TICKR X, start a workout with one of the
profiles you paired it with. The Wahoo Fitness app will remember this pairing in the future. You simply
need to wake up your sensor and start a new workout to begin recording data!
NOTE: The TICKR X Heart Rate Monitor uses a Blue and Red LED to give instant feedback to the user
during the pairing process. These LEDs operate for about 30 seconds to conserve battery. The Red LED
flashes each time a heartbeat is detected. The Blue LED represents your connection state and has three
modes:
1. Slow Blink (about once every second): TICKR X is awake and not paired
2. 3x Flash: Occurs the instant a connection is made.
3. Quick Blink (about twice every second): TICKR X is paired to a device.
* If a firmware update is available for your sensor, the Wahoo Fitness app will now prompt you to
proceed with performing an update. If you do not, the update may be performed later. Sensors with
updates available will appear in the menu of Saved Sensors marked with a badge to indicate the update
is available but not installed.
**If this is your first time pairing to a TICKR X:

Please note that you can select the TICKR X from the Saved Sensors (Saved Devices) menu at any time
to access the in-app tutorial, along with a range of other functions. From this menu, scroll to the bottom
and select “Show Tutorial” to learn more about a variety of functions available to get the most out of
your TICKR X.

Calibrating your TICKR X for Treadmill Workouts


NOTE: Use the calibration function when on a treadmill to enable your TICKR X to accurately measure
your running speed and distance when performing a treadmill workout.

How to Calibrate your TICKR X for Treadmill Workouts (iOS):


1. Select “Sensors”.
2. Select the TICKR X from the list of Saved Sensors.
3. Scroll down and select “Calibrate” from the menu.
4. Select the calibration type and follow the prompts to complete.

How to Calibrate your TICKR X for Treadmill Workouts (Android)


1. Select “Saved Devices”.
2. Select the TICKR X from the list of Saved Sensors.
3 Scroll down and select “Calibrate” from the menu.
3. Scroll down and select Calibrate from the menu.
4. Select the calibration type and follow the prompts to complete.

Workout Basics
Starting your Workout (iOS)
1. Make sure the device has Bluetooth turned on so it can communicate with your TICKR X.
2. Select what kind of workout you wish to do from the list of workout types using the slider.
3. Select if you wish to have Audio Announcements turned on or off.
4. Select what you would like the double tap function to perform on your TICKR X.
5. Wake up your TICKR X by wearing it on your chest. The TICKR X wakes up when a heartbeat is
present.
6. Make sure the TICKR X is synced to your device. It will appear in the list of Linked Sensors for that
workout profile with an indication of signal strength shown on the far right when it is connected to
your device.
7. Select the green “Start” button to begin the workout. Information gathered from your TICKR X will
now start to be displayed on your device.

Ending your workout (iOS)


1. To end your workout, simply select the red “Pause” button.
2. Select the red “Stop” button and either a) Discard Workout b) Save Workout or c) Return to Workout.
3. If you elect to finish the workout, the Wahoo Fitness app will now display a summary of your
workout.

Performing an Offline Workout (iOS)


1. Put on the TICKR X strap to wake it up. There will be a red LED flash to indicate a heartbeat has
been detected. Recording will automatically begin.^
2. Perform your workout.
3. When you next sync your device with the TICKR X it will prompt you to download the workout data
from the sensor. The TICKR X will record up to 16 hours of workout data in offline mode.
^ If you wish to confirm the TICKR X is working during an offline workout, double tap it at any time & the
LED will flash again to indicate it is awake (however, each double tap will place a marker in your workout
history).
NOTE: If you have recorded offline workouts, they will appear in the History menu upon syncing with the
Wahoo Fitness app. However, a workout less than 5 minutes in duration will not be synchronised. They
can be downloaded manually in Sensors>TICKR X>Device Free Workouts.

Starting your Workout (Android)


1. Make sure the device has Bluetooth turned on so it can communicate with your TICKR X.
2. Select what kind of workout you wish to do from the list of workout types using the slider.
3. Use the Pencil icon to make changes to your workout if required. e.g. Select what you would like the
double tap function to perform on your TICKR X or edit the Audio Announcements.
4. Select the green “Play” button to open a new workout.
5. Wake up your TICKR X by wearing it on your chest. The TICKR X wakes up when a heartbeat is
present
present.
6. Make sure the TICKR X is synced to your device. It will appear in the list of Linked Sensors for that
workout profile with an indication of signal strength shown on the far right when it is connected to
your device (button located in the top right corner).
7. Select the green “Start” button to begin the workout. Information gathered from your TICKR X will
now start to be displayed on your device.
NOTE: If a firmware update is available for your sensor, the Wahoo Fitness app will now prompt you to
proceed with performing an update using the Wahoo Utility app. If you do not, the update may be
performed later. The free Wahoo Utility app is required to perform firmware updates and is available from
the Google Play Store.

1. To end your workout, simply select the red “Pause” button.

2. Select the “Sync offline workouts” button located in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Select “Continue” to import the offline workout data.

Additional Functions:

How to connect to the Nike+ app (iOS only)


1. Wake up your TICKR X by wearing it on your chest. The TICKR X wakes up when a heartbeat is
present.
2. Make sure you are not in proximity to any other heart rate transmitters.
3. On your iOS device, navigate to Settings>Bluetooth.
4. Toggle Bluetooth to the “on” position.

6. Wait for it to appear under "My Devices" with a "Connected" status beside it.
7. Return to your iOS device's home screen and select the "Health" icon.
8. Select “Sources".
9. Select "Nike+ Running”.
10. Toggle "Heart Rate" (under "Allow Nike+ Running to read data") to the “on” position.

Want to connect another app?


This product is compatible with a number of third party apps. However, each app connects to sensors a
little differently. As a general rule: Open the compatible app you would like to use and find the settings.
Look for "connect to sensor" or another similar option. You must connect each sensor separately for
each app you use.
NOTE: Bluetooth devices can only pair to one app at a time. Make sure to close any background apps
that may be using the sensor before connecting to a new app.

How to replace the Wahoo TICKR X battery


1. Using a coin, remove the back casing of the device by inserting into the depression and turning anti-
clockwise to the “unlock” position.
2. Replace the dead battery with a new CR2032 coin cell battery.
3. Replace the back casing and use the coin to turn clockwise to tighten to the “lock” position.
Troubleshoot

Troubleshoot
Use the Wahoo Utility app to test your hardware for connectivity
issues (iOS)
1. Download the Wahoo Utility app from the App Store.
2. Open the Wahoo Utility app.
3. Select “Test Bluetooth 4.0 Sensors”. Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on & your device is
awake.
4. Select “BlueHR/TICKR”. The Wahoo Utility will now try to connect to the sensor.
5. The Wahoo Utility should now connect to your sensor & display information regarding sensor data
and the firmware version to confirm connectivity.
6. Close the Wahoo Utility app to disconnect the pairing when finished testing.
NOTE: If a firmware update is available for your sensor, the Wahoo Utility app will prompt you to proceed
with performing an update. Apply updates when available to improve the performance of your sensor

Use the Wahoo Utility app to test your hardware for connectivity
issues (Android)
1. Download the Wahoo Utility app from the Google Play Store.
2. Open the Wahoo Utility app. “Discover Devices” will immediately try to discover your sensor device.
Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on & your device is awake.
3. Select “TICKR X”. The Wahoo Utility will now try to connect to the sensor.
4. The Wahoo Utility should now connect to your sensor & display information regarding sensor data
and the firmware version to confirm connectivity.
5. Close the Wahoo Utility app to disconnect the pairing when finished testing.
NOTE: If a firmware update is available for your sensor, the Wahoo Utility app will display an “Upgrade
Firmware” button. Apply updates when available to improve the performance of your sensor.
