01

Psychological well-being is a powerful term. It denotes positive functioning at all

levels - cognitive, emotional and behavioral.

We believe that school years are formative and they have an ever-lasting impact
on the quality of an individual’s life. Since a significant part of an individual’s life
is spent in school; adapting skills and acquiring knowledge prepares them to be
future-ready. Thus, it is important for us to imbibe psychological well-being
during this stage itself.

Schools play an important role in molding a child’s healthy mind. And hence,
Pearson Academy India helps them promote healthy minds, as it leads to the
creation of competent, functional and successful future adults, based on a foun-
dation of holistic learning and development.

Our Mission: Pearson Academy India promotes psychological

well-being in school students and opens learning paths for them,
thereby contributing to their holistic development.
02

Why is it important to address

Psychological Barriers?

Cognitive challenges such as learning difficulties impact more

1. than just academic performance.

Learning difficulties may lead to emotional and behavioral

2. issues, resulting in academic failures of the student.

Emotional difficulties can lead to behavioral consequences

3. such as stuttering, stammering and receptive/expressive lan-
guage delays, besides social consequences for the student.

Pearson Academy India collaborates with school-based professionals such as

general and special classroom teachers, school counsellor, psychologists and
other professionals. These school professionals are the channels that help us
identify and address the psychological well-being issues in learners since they
are in direct contact with them.
03

How your school

can support?

• Training teachers and other school staff on identifying students who may need
special education or counselling.

• Educating parents about the child’s struggles with cognitive, emotional or

behavioural difficulties so that the child gets the required understanding and
support at home.

• Referring a student to the in-house counsellor or special educator for psychological

assessment and counselling or remediation.

• Referring out students to special education or mental-health centers and

coordinating with these centers to track their progress.

• Operating a special education cell/resource center/counselling cell in your

school for in-school support, for students with special needs as well as
emotional or behavioral struggles.

In your journey and commitment towards making a difference to a

student’s life by imparting the highest quality of learning, Pearson
Academy India would like to partner with you to help create an optimal
environment in your school where each learner enjoys optimal
psychological well-being.

Focus Areas

Focus Area 1:

Learning Difficulties (LD)

Children with learning difficulties constitute a large and fast-growing population. LD results
in a significant discrepancy between ability and academic achievement and can co-exist
with emotional and behavioural issues.

Focus Area 2:

Emotional Health (EH)

Emotional health issues in students often go undetected, both at school and home. Depres-
sion and anxiety are common ways in which emotional difficulties manifest them-
selves in a student. As a result of such difficulties, students are unable to achieve their
full academic potential, despite adequate ability. Emotional issues may co-exist with
learning difficulties or attention deficits.

Focus Area 3:

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Attention is a fundamental cognitive capacity and a pre-requisite for classroom behavior
related to listening and understanding instructions, completing assignments and taking
exams. ADHD involves inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity in students, which may
lead to disruptive behavior in the classroom.

School Personnel Evaluation

Pearson Academy India offers wide range of assessments that are scientific
and structured way of measuring the psychological well-being of school staff.

Areas of Evaluation
1. Mental Abilities
2. Personality
3. Behavioral Patterns
4. Overall Level of current functioning

Our assessments can be used in phases:-

1. Pre-Recruitment phase:
During the pre-recruitment stage, schools can incorporate a scientific
approach to assess the psychological suitability of a potential employee.
Our assessment can evaluate the Aptitude/Ability, Personality and
Psychological functioning that are necessary for a particular job role.

2. Continuous Evaluation / Monitoring of Progress:

As a part of continuous evaluation process, schools can conduct periodic
checks for both teaching and non-teaching staff. An employee could be
required to complete a psychometric evaluation at least once a year to
gauge their psychological functioning. This will help schools monitor
psychological well-being of all employees and take suitable action, if
necessary.

Pearson Academy India can be your assessment and counselling partner and
help implement these best practices in your school and stay ahead of the
curve.
