It 1~ armed by setback which role_eea _ spring loaded detent allowing 8 steel ball to move aWAY from the striker. Upon l~pact the striker moves rorward against the actlon of a very weak creep spring.

The noae fuze consists of a striker held aWAY from the pr1mer by a creep spring and a coIled spring. Around the col1~d spring is an inertia pellet resting on four fl~ers of a stirrup e pr-Lng fixed in the baae of a IItirrup spring retainer. The inertia pellet has a groove cut around ita internal circumferenoe.

Two detonators are located in thft ~aae of the main charge. One detonator faces toward the noae fuze to r~ceivd th~ 1.1aeh tram there, and the other detonator ra ce s the tail rus e to r-ec ef ve its flush.

The propelling charBe 18 contained 1n a steel cartridge case. The charge consists of diethylene glycol dinitrat. tubular otick powder with an igniting charge aT nitrocellulose granular powder, and a pereuasion type primer oonsisting of mercury fulm1nate and black powder.

Operation

On discharge the inertia pell~t of the nOle ru~e ia driven downwards and the enda of the 5tlrrup spring arc forced into the grooves of the inertia pellet thus holding it down. The clock spring i. now held in pOlition by the collar of the strik~ pin and the stirrup spring retainer.
