Topic Proposal: Entertainment Law

This year in the Independent Study and Mentorship program, I hope to pursue my interest

in Entertainment Law, increasing my knowledge on the subject in order to set myself up for

success in the near and distant future.

Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to be surrounded by “big people.” I knew that I

was destined to one day be among the pop idols and movie stars I always admired, but I was

unsure of exactly how I would go about these dreams. However, one fateful day in middle

school, one of my best friends introduced me to hip-hop music and almost immediately I was

hooked on the unique flow, the ever-changing beats, and the extremely unconventional messages

brought upon the audience by the “different” lyrics. Thus, I decided I would do something with

hip-hop. Unfortunately, I had almost no musical talent, and instead I decided to devote my

special skills of creative problem solving and logical argumentation to defend those who

admired, were they to ever come across any legality issues. Coincidentally, this goal also

combined with my dreams of being the only grandchild to follow my grandfather's footsteps, and

diverge from the traditional asian job fields and go into an “unusual” career path.

According to the 16 personality test I am a Commander with the ENTJ-T characteristics

(extroverted, intuitive, thinking, judging, and turbulent). All of these qualities are very beneficial

for legal professionals. My extrovertedness will allow me to communicate and network

professionally. The intuitiveness and thinking skills I have will make it easy to form logical

arguments and creative solutions to difficult problems. Needless to say, judging and law go

hand-in-hand and this ability will allow me to decide on the right decisions correctly. Finally, a

turbulent possibility means that I will not rest until any problem, big or small, is solved. Along
with these abilities and characteristics, my natural leadership skills will allow me to lead teams

of attorneys and eventually manage a firm. Furthermore, I have a never-ending thirst for

knowledge, which is a useful tool for lawyers as they must continuously keep expanding their

legal education to keep up with the times. However, the most important factor that will make me

a successful entertainment lawyer is the fact that I love the people I will be defending and I hope

that they have no issues, so they can keep creating the beautiful art that they do.
