variety of objects

Select appropriate materials, such as papers, plastics, woods; and design and build objects, based on
the following kinds of construction tasks:

Build a model of a sweat lodge using pipe cleaners, and modelling clay.

Evaluation of Learning:
Teacher will ask students questions while observing them doing activity.
Students will complete activity.

LESSON STRUCTURE
SET
Pre-Class
 Teacher will get materials together.

5 min Introduction
 Ask: Ok, boys and girls, do you know what a sweat lodge is.
 Do: Give students a chance to answer.
 Say: A sweat lodge is a place where our people, the Niitsitapii, go for healing.
 Ask: Have you ever seen a sweat lodge.
 Do: Give Students a chance to answer.
 Say: I will tell you a story of how we were given the sweat lodge.

DEVELOPMENT
Presentation / Question / Answer
 Say: Ok let’s go to the back of the classroom, and I will tell you the story of the sweat
lodge.
5 min  Do: Teacher will tell story.
 Do: Students will go back to their seats.

Activity
 Do: Teacher will introduce activity to students. Making a sweat lodge model.
15  Do: Teacher will pass out materials.
min  Do: Students will make their own sweat lodge model.
 Do: Teacher will walk around and help students, and keep them on task.

CLOSURE
Say: Ok you can start to finish up what you are doing. Put your materials away, and you can get
ready for your next class.
