Central Learning Focus and Planned Learning Outcomes

Central Focus Understand the gravity of overcrowding in classrooms
ELA Anchor Standards N/A

Standards for Mathematical Practice

Learning Standard(s) for the Content Focus N/A
Objectives based on the Learning Standards listed above • Students will be able to state what overcrowding is
• Students will be able to analyze the possible effects of an
overcrowded classroom
• Students will be able to devise solutions to overcrowding
in a classroom if faced with the issue
Prior Academic Knowledge Students should have some form of understanding of
overcrowding in classrooms.
Anticipated issues Going off of recent events, the fire alarm may go off. This will
delay the lesson and cause us to stop at whatever point we are at.
The power could possibly go out therefore, we will not be able
to use the projector to display the presentation.
Academic Language Demands
Language Used (Vocabulary, Syntax, Discourse) Overcrowding- when the number of students enrolled in the
school is larger than the number of students the school is
designed to accommodate
Meeting the Language Demands It will be defined on the second slide; short definition.

Instructional Strategies and Learning Tasks

Launch / Motivation / Anticipatory Set Students will be sitting in seats at the start of class. A
presentation will be loaded onto the front of the classroom. The
(Engage)
PowerPoint has information on reports of overcrowding in
different grades, what the effects of this issue are on the student
Instructional Core Sequence and teacher, and solutions on how to deal with this problem if
faced with it. During the presentation there are two videos which
(Explore, Explain, Elaborate) highlight the issues that are being discussed so students can have
a better understanding. There will also be two discussion
questions: “What do you believe are some of the effects of
overcrowding in a classroom?” and “Considering the effects of
overcrowding, what do you think some solutions or ways to
prevent it could be?”. This will make the lesson more interactive
instead of just having presenters disperse knowledge the entire
duration.

Structured Practice & Application Students will be asked to complete an exit ticket. They will have
to write down three facts from the presentation that was just
(Formal Assessment or Evaluate) given to them. This will show whether or not they were listening
to what was being presented.
Closure The class will be asked on how they would personally handle
this problem as a teacher. This will allow everyone to reflect on
different perspectives within this situation.
How does your lesson plan include language arts, math, or N/A
social studies content?
Extension Activity N/A
Differentiation/Planned Additional Support Any people who have trouble keeping up with the presentation
can get a digital or paper copy upon request.
