Data Cards for GSM, CDMA and 3G

Introduction
BSNL is India's no. 1 Internet service provider with more than 9.7 million subscribers,
providing Internet service throughout the entire country (except in New Delhi and
mumbai) BSNL has a world class, multi-gigabit, multi-protocol, convergent IP
infrastructure through National Internet Backbone, through which it is providing
convergent services through the same backbone and broadband access network. The
Broadband service is available on ADSL technology (on the same copper cable that is
used for connecting telephone), on a countrywide basis.

In terms of infrastructure for broadband services NIB has put India at par with most
advanced nations. The services that are supported includes:
 Always-on broadband access to the Internet for residential and business customers
 Content based services
 Internet Protocol TV (IPTV)
 Games on Demand
 Music and Video on Demand

BSNL is also providing Internet on mobile via various mobile technologies like GPRS,
EDGE ,CDMA 2000 1X , EVDO , 3G , HSDPA and WiFi.

1. Data services through CDMA

BSNL brings to its esteemed customers wireless data Service with CDMA 2000 1X &
EVDO technology. A customer can avail these services by using USB or PCMCIA type
data card. The data card (EVDO/CDMA 1X) allows to accesses the high speed internet
without need of landline. You can use the services while on move. The service is available
PAN India (except Delhi &Mumbai).Data services are available in prepaid as well as
postpaid. BSNL offer two types of data services on CDMA technology.

 CDMA 1X data service with internet surfing peak speed up to 144 kbps.
 EVDO data service with internet surfing peak speed up to 3.1 Mbps .

Strong network coverage

BSNL CDMA Network is available all over India except Delhi & Mumbai. EVDO
services are available in all major city /town & 1x data services are all over the India
(Except Delhi &Mumbai).

Easy to setup
Data card are easily setup in laptop as well as desktop. All the data card are plug & play i.e
data card are automatically detected by laptop/desktop. Data card are supporting all OS
like Window-xp, Window-vista, window-7, linux etc.

Roaming
BSNL CDMA roaming service allows you to stay connected and use data card for internet
surfing from almost anywhere in India except Delhi & Mumbai.

Available on prepaid as well as postpaid

BSNL CDMA data services are available on prepaid as well as postpaid. Varieties of tariff
plan are available in prepaid and postpaid services. Customer can chose prepaid or
postpaid services and different tariff plan as per requirement.

1.1 NIC and EVDO Cards.

The following two types of data Cards will be available for BSNL customers:

(A) Network Interface Card (NIC) : For internet speed up to 144 Kbps.

(B) EVDO Card : Internet speed up to 3.1 Mbps

1.2.1Start-UP Kit: (SUK):

 Activation charges of NIC connection is renamed as SUK (Rs 250 for NIC card ).
No seperate SUK charge for BSNL NIC customer. If customer brings own data
card , SUK price will be charged and no Free usage value will be given
 Data chrges :
 Peak Hours : Rs 0.10/100 KB
 Off - Peak Hours (11 PM to 7 AM ) : Rs 0.05/100 KB

1.2.2Tariff plan for NIC(CDMA-1X DATA CARD) Prepaid :

 The charges for unlimited data usage with NIC card under CDMA 1X will be
Rs.350 with a validity of 30 days.
 The charges mentioned above will be automatically deducted from the account
balance available in the customer's account.
 The unlimited free data usage is also applicable while in national roaming.
 All other terms and conditions will remain same.

Few Important facts about BSNL data cards

 The BSNL data card support voice and text messages. With the handsfree / mic
that come with the data card, we can make / receive calls. Also we can send /
receive sms.
 The BSNL data card software has a phonebook which has large capacity and very
useful.
 BSNL data card is meant for usage in laptop only. Theoretically, the PCI-To-
PCMCIA adapter should work for PC but there is no guarantee. Neither Huawei
(data card manufacturer) nor BSNL recommend the data card to be used in PC. It
is better not to try the BSNL data card in PC.
 Maximum (actual speed) will be nearly 120 kbps.
 The speed is mainly depend on the distance from the BSNL CDMA tower. If you
are near the tower you may get speed of 120 kbps, if you are away from the tower
it will go down to 80 or 60 kbps.

3.2 How to use it ?

You have to Plug in 3G Data Card into your laptop and can get the fastest available
connection, with mobile broadband speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps. Its neat, compact design
makes it easy to use; you can easily swap it between laptops for use at work, home or
on the move. Laptops have a PC Card slot (also known as a PCMCIA slot), or an
Express Card slot. There is PCMCIA to Express Card Converter For using 3G
broadband ,you need 3G Data card ,network SIM card, software, user guide.
