PLOT: The story of Anne Sullivan's struggle to teach the blind and deaf Helen Keller how to
communicate.

Communication is old as times, it is the reason why our world revolves and go round but sometimes
it is strange as the people that surrounds us. Strange in a way that sometimes we don’t understand
each other well enough and for this movie that we saw how can a deaf, blind and mute can
communicate well. How can she express herself? How can she tell her story?
When I saw the film, I question myself how can I do what teacher Anne did, how can I able to do
that, it seems very impossible and difficult without prior training, but training isn’t just the key I
think what we need is a heart that is not limited or restrict, but an open heart and mind, that is full
of love, patience, perseverance and dedication on these chosen battle that we dig in as a future
intellectual faucet.
This film is very suitable for future teachers especially those who enrolled in Professional
Teaching Certificate, because this kind of scenario maybe is one the worst and best we could
encounter in teaching. From what I learned in this movie is, everyone can learn, if they got the best
and well equipped teacher, best in the sense of having a kindhearted heart and equipped with the
eye that can look through the souls of their students whether they are slow or not, but always
remember we cannot say that someone is not good enough in just academics because I do believe
that everyone is unique and most of the students is late bloomer so don’t force and judge your
student, yes I know our human tendencies will get mad to those who do not show and share
enthusiasm in the class, but try to understand them so we can be on the right track.
The film told us that we can do better for our student to learn and develop, is not a matter of how
big or far they’ve gone, small steps is better than nothing, so don’t get frustrated if others are slow
just hold them properly so they don’t get bore and lazy. We are the director and they are just actors
in our classroom, lead them properly so both of us our not losing our sight to the correct path.
This film tells that people with disabilities don’t just need sympathy but empathy as well, but pity
is not for them, so please don’t give it instead understand how can you express your empathy for
them.
Impairment is not the end but just another way to cross, another way to take in to, we just need to
be bold and brave enough to take the risk and don’t hold back because this profession we are
pursuing isn’t just an easy job but lifetime commitment that requires a lot of heart and mind that
is willing to give and share what’s inside. You can pause and rest but you can never give up,
because with patience and perseverance, all things is possible.
