PARENT-TEACHER INTERACTION PORTAL

The parent portal enables parents to be connected to their student’s classroom and teachers 24
hours a day. This feature keeps parents involved and actively participating in their student’s
education. The information available to parents in the parent portal is completely customizable
by the school and can include attendance records, grades, classroom assignments, a message
board, and basic student and parent information.

Parents usually have to rely on students for school and classroom information, such as notes
from the teacher, homework assignments, activities, and classroom policies. To a lesser degree,
parents must wait for students to bring home classroom and school notes and letters regarding
attendance, grades, and requests for teacher meetings. With the Parent Portal, parents don’t have
to wait and hope that their students will give them the materials they need in order to stay
informed. Instead, parents can get the information they want themselves right from their own
computer and that information comes straight from the teachers and school. Information in the
parent portal is always up to date, which is especially important for attendance and grading
tracking.

Sometimes parents and students have questions that must be addressed before the start of the
next school day, especially if they are questions regarding homework, testing, and projects due
the next day. Parents may also want to touch base with their student’s teachers if they have
questions, suggestions, or comments regarding classroom activities, attendance, discipline issues,
or grades. The Parent Portal includes a communications feature which enables parents to send
private messages directly to their student’s teachers. This direct line of communication can help
parents and teachers ensure the success of their students.
WORKING
Registration: Two types of User (Parent and Teacher) can register on the portal. Details like
Parent Name, E-mail, password, student name are asked for parent Registration and similarly for
teacher registration, Teacher Name, E-mail and password are asked.

Login: Two types of User (Parent and Teacher) can login to the portal. E-mail and password are
used to validate the user.

Parent-Dashboard: The parent dashboard has the capability to display student details like marks,
attendance, message from teachers, etc.

Teacher-Dashboard: The teacher’s dashboard has the capability to update details like marks,
attendance, message from teachers, etc of any student available in the database.

ARCHITECTURE
The portal can handle two types of users: Parent and Teacher. Initially, the database is loaded
with all the students and their details. The portal is then available for parents and teachers to
register. Parents need to provide their details like name, E-mail, Password and pick a student.
Teachers need to provide their name, E-mail and Password to register.

Once registered, an user can login with the E-mail and password used while registering. If the
user is a parent, the details of their child like marks and attendance are available in the
dashboard. If the logged in user is a teacher, details like marks and attendance of any student can
be updated by the teacher and stored to the database.

This software can be widely used in schools, colleges and universities. The portal can be
accessed from the comfort of home and hence is very convenient to use. Features like sending
messages from a teacher to parent, ability to schedule an upcoming parent-teacher meeting can
be implemented in the portal.
