Subjects: Motivation letter for a masters program in crop protection

Dear Madam,

Allow me first, to express my deepest gratitude to Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen

and the department of crop protection in particular for allowing me to take part in the selection
process. I am Cho Che Carl, a graduate from the UNIVERSITY OF DSCHANG, Cameroon.
Herewith, I would like to request your kind permission as to request a review and further
assessment for myself to be considered as a student for a Master’s degree in Georg-August-
Universitat Gottingen. Kindly allow me to briefly elaborate the reasoning of my request.
To begin with my reason for taking up crop protection, is as result of the fact that
growing up as a boy, I have always been very much interested in farming activities especially
crop production. My passion for this activity has always been the driving force that landed me
to studying crop production at the university in my later years. Studying crop production, at the
undergraduate level, made me realize especially during my series of internships, that very
limited crop protective measures are put in place by most farmers in my country, to minimize
loss of produce, which are often caused by pest, weeds and diseases attacks. It is as a result of
these observations that, I’ve decided to take up crop protection at the masters level amongst
other options, because of the inevitable importance of crop protection in relation to
sustainable crop production at a time of population growth in relation to food security. Since I
want to deepen my education in crop protection, the perfect choice for my graduate study is at
Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen.
Haven had a close examination of the institutes website in crop protection, I strongly believe
Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen is the right place, for acquiring the best technical methods
to solve the problems in crop protection. I’m interested in studying crop protection methods in
relation to increase in crop production efficiency. I consider that I can get valuable knowledge
about the crop production methods, and I also believe the course will give me the opportunity
to deepen my knowledge about crop production in relation to high yields and good quality
products.
This Master course offers everything I need to become an expert in crop protection, giving the
fact that if am given a chance to be part of the program I will have the opportunity, to learn
about the basic and applied aspects of research of a broad range of disciplines including plant
pathology, nematology, entomology, virology, weed science, pesticide use, legislation and
toxicology, molecular phytopathology, mycotoxin research, plant nutrition, plant breeding and
plant biotechnology and since learning methods will be through lectures, seminars, internships,
excursions, exercises and projects.
In my university years, I was active in my program, most especially when it came to practical
activities wherein I often excelled. I learnt further when I carried out an internship at a major
crop producing enterprise that was involved in the production of crops like soya bean, maize
and groundnuts. Working with this institution has given me many important insights on the
importance of crop production. This was very rewarding as it led me to gain a grant for my final
research entitled “Post Harvest Handling and Preservation Methods of tomatoes in Bamenda”.
This research was aimed at identifying the various methods and protective measures put in
place by farmers and traders to ensure that their produce reach the consumers in good
condition.

Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen is also known as one of the best for its specializations in
crop protection, which means that I will be taught by top researchers and experts, I also believe
studying in Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen will also offer me opportunities for professional
networking, and will be my collaboration partner in the future. This will bring me to the
greatness of my countries crop protection development. Pursuing a Master’s degree in Georg-
August-Universitat Gottingen will not only help me to gain better knowledge in crop protection,
but also open my vision more about developing crop production in a global perspective. I can fit
with this program considering my background study, my life experiences, my maturity and my
passion.
At the end of my study, I believe that I can contribute to the development of my countries food
safety, by putting into practice crop protection techniques acquired from the institution and by
educating other young farmers.
As concern my finance in relation to my stay in Germany to further my education, it’s going to
be done by a private sponsor (my father).
Lastly, allow me to express that I do strongly believe that I deserve to be in the list of
master degree student from this respectful institution to continue my study in Germany. I will
be patiently waiting for a positive reply. Please accept my deepest appreciation and gratitude
