The RDO, Introduction to Theological Thinking and Writing class is the class that we
need to take as a one subject under the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. This class is
helping and guiding us how to write a theses and research papers, a theological paper, Essay,
reflections, as a theological student. Moreover our professor is very kind in her teaching class
and she is full of the teaching skills, leadership skills, and she is honourable to the students in
every single moments.

This class is producing and bearing many theological writers who can able to write
and understand the research papers, theses and so many materials as a theological students
properly, and correctly. It includes grammars lectures. And theologians writing were being
taught and described in the class also. So now I will go to integrate or write everything that I
have learned in the Introduction to Theological Thinking and Writing class.

Before we went to the lectures, our professor gives us a time to reflect the bible
scripture texts and writing our prayers to Our Father in heaven. Sometimes, we have to make
our reflections through drawing pictures, going outside and come back to reflect what God

had told us in our life. It provides me and helps me to be a mature person in trusting Jesus
Christ in my life.

Group’s discussion also carries out many advantages for all of us. Because when we
tried to talk about something, we response it differently, because we came from different
places and our understanding is also not the same. We could learn from each of us in different
ways. And the more we make discussion, the more we understand well.

The Turibians 9th is the food that it ever tried to lack me to eat. Because this kind of
meals need to be act carefully. It is a writing and research. It is very important for all of us as
we are theological students because the end of our school year, we need to write so many
papers then submit to the teachers. Notes – Bibliography style: Citing specific types of
sources. Before we start to write, or do something, we have to know how to write and do it.
These lectures help me and teach step by step how to be a good writers or writing papers
properly.

Theological writing and theologian’s writings

We could know and see all the theologians write the books in theirs times and theirs
events. Because God wants them to write what God has told to write down on the papers for
God’s people and the next generation to know about God. We can see God let many people
write the things what he want to write.

Theologians of Hope : Jurgen Moltmann, Wofhart Pannenberg, and Ebehard Jungel whose
wrote this topics.

Liberation Theology are Martin Luther King, Jr. with his “Letter to Birmingham Jail” in
1963. Gustavo Gutierez Best known for his Teologia de La Liberacion (1971). Jese Miguez
Bonino and his Doing Theology in a Revolutionary situation (1975) and Toward a Christian
Political ehtics (1983). All of these theologians tried to liberal the oppression people without
non-violent protest towards conversion and social change. As we are spiritual students, we
have to help the oppressed people or deliver our people from the difficult situations through
using non- violence systems, no war, no fighting, no abusing to others. These liberation
theologians are good examples for us.

Feminist Theologians as Sallie MacFague(1933) “Metaphorical Theology said that believers

related with as friend, a parent, and lover. Elizabeth Fiorenza (1938) “In Memory of Her
critiques the biblical models that will include the women in the picture. Women also try to
reach out their destiny with men. They study hard and later they become a theologians in
their times. In the Bible, we will see about the life of Esther, she was the one of stand form
her people through helping them and saving them the oppressed times. Through them, I can
be a good student who will go back and serve for my people and actually for the kingdom of
Jesus Christ.

Asian Theologians are Kazoh Kitamori’s Theology of the Pain of God, C.S Song, The
Compassionate God, Jose De Mesa’s in solidarity with Culture:studies in theological Re-
rooting, Lee, Young Jung “Yin and Yang” and Kosuke Koyama “watterbufallo Theology in

Monsoon Thailand, Minjung Theology in Korea, and Dalit Theology in India. These Asian
theologians are trying to express the Christians life in theirs cultures. I am proud of myself
that we also have Asia theologians. We can learn and study theology education through their
theological and writings books. As other reigns have their own theologians, our places or
countries also have their own understanding of God by their writings and their perspectives.

Theological Essay: What makes an essay theological is because of its theological. For Paul
Tillich. “correction is the backbone of theological essay.” Correlating present –day questions
with the traditional answers of the Christian faith. One question or problem is death with
methodically and the problem is set in conversation with the resources of Christian tradition.

Constructive theological Essay Theology is primarily an activity of construction-of

conception or picture of God, of human life, and of the world.” Theology is a human
imaginative construction. (Gordon Kaufman). A good constructive theological essay adapts
to its theological location from which it is written, its rhetorical style, and the genre is framed
to meet the needs of the audience.
Elements of Constructive theological Essay: Identification: identify the theological
question Correlation, Establishing the correlation, Suspicion-engaging a dialogue.
Construction. Completing the construction.

Theological Imagination: it is a way of knowing that is mediated by the human. It is the

primary of the human mind, thinking, questioning, dreaming, creating, creating, construing,
constructing, critiquing, speaking, and writing, “is a way of seeing-grounded in acts of human
perception that issue in physical and mental images both the visual images produced by the
retina and the mental images we retrieve from memory or inventively create’, for example,
the cross, the staff, the rainbow, burning tree, the guarder and so on. All of these were
represented into theological imagination effectively. Through their theory of theological
imagination, we could come to know more theological perspectives, views and writings.
Because of their review or their using metaphors, help us to understand the theological usages
easily.

Symbols, defined

Sign based definition is a sign that points beyond itself. Meaning based definition is a
concrete object or entity which is set apart because of the meaning it embodies and evokes.
Mediation-based definition operates dialectically, meaning they are both are and are not what
they literally signify. Text-based definition is a written symbol defined by the author of a text
that can be classified as a sign-based.

Finally i agreed that because of this class, I came to know many different things about
the writing and research, and some of theologians writing. Through this class, I have known
how to write my papers properly and grammatically, and on the hand, I came to know how to
read a book and if I want to take something from the book I know how should I do and write
them correctly and legally. Taking the writing ideas, their articles, and their writing
metaphors and then apply into my studying correctly. This class is helping me and providing
me as well as a theological student.
