COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Madam:
We are fifth year students of the Cebu Technological University – Main Campus taking up
Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. In fulfillment of our course IE 514 –
Undergraduate Research, we are conducting a research entitled “Halal-Certification Readiness of
Cebu City: Identification and Evaluation of Barriers in its Adoption Through Fuzzy DEMATEL
Approach,” which aims to identify and examine the challenges or gaps in the adoption of Halal-
certification of food establishments, particularly restaurants, in Cebu City.
The subject on Halal foods and industry, which was initially brought up by our adviser, caught
our interest as there is little study in the city about it. After some investigation about the subject,
we learned of some details about the current situation of Halal industry in the city and learned
about the shortage of Halal-certified restaurants, despite the extensive efforts of our city
administrators to support Halal industry. That being the case, we are very eager to deeply
understand the reasons pointing to the said problem. As such, we want to determine and
investigate the barriers in the Halal-certification of restaurants in Cebu City. The results of this
study will hopefully determine the interrelationships of the barriers and give input about what
barriers need to be primarily addressed and how in order to fully harness the benefits of Halal
industry.
We are in the process of gathering data that will be used in our study. We believe that you are
well-versed about the subject and that you have the right judgment and information we need for
our study. Attached with this letter is a list of barriers of halal-certification we consolidated from
different literatures that we humbly request of you to verify and validate.
We believe that you are with us in our enthusiasm to finish the requirement as compliance for our
course to develop our well-being. We hope for your positive response on this humble matter.
Your prompt response will be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully yours,
