Bio for Matt Saporito

---

Matt received a degree in Electronics & Computer Technology from Bowling

Green State University which is an educational program combining computer science,
electrical engineering, and industrial automation technology. After moving to San
Diego, he spent 2 years involved with Landmark Education, an advanced leadership
coaching program, where he learned and practiced skills forming him into an
effective leader and one capable of creating other leaders.
After spending 11 years in the tech industry, Matt realized that he was no
longer passionate about the work he was doing and felt it was time to move on.
While contemplating his next move, he realized that there was one industry that
combined his love of technology, agriculture, and medicine, providing a rich
community full of passionate people while being nascent enough to provide enough
space for one to discover their own niche: Cannabis. The journey began when Matt
and his roommate and future business partner, Ryan Ellis, realized they both had an
interest in joining the cannabis industry. Their collaboration led to the creation
of a number of projects and products providing them with the opportunity to
experiment with technologies they'd researched while building a networking and
discovering the best opportunities in the industry.
Their first project, a low-cost highly scalable automated aeroponic grow
system, led to the formation of Organic Reaction Biotechnology and served as the
genesis of their future interest in cultivation technology. Matt was able to
successfully leverage his background in industrial automation technology, computer
science, and knowledge of cannabis biology to develop a platform using bluetooth
powered sensors measuring temperature, humidity, EC, PPM, pH, irrigation water
flow, and CO2 in a three dimentional space feeding information into logic that
controlled the timing of irrigation cycles and lighting. The aeroponic system was
designed
When cannabis extracts started becoming a trend in Southern California they
looked into contructing a super-critical CO2 extractor to create oil for use in
vape pens and other products. Ryan took care of the hardware design and Matt
drafted the protocol for how to run the extractor. Matt was able to dig into
scientific studies on the process of extraction and how various terpenes and
cannabinoids responded to various temperatures and pressures to create a multi-
stage protocol that yielded high amounts of cannabinoids while at the same time
preserving the terpene content of the raw plant material creating a great tasting
extract.
The oil they created formed the basis of multiple products, the first of
which was a personal lubricant called Play. Matt and Ryan researched the market
and competition, crafted the formulation after much research, created the branding
and packaging, went through the process of meeting with dispensary product
purchasers ultimately selling hundreds of units and completing all manufacuring on
their own. The second product they created was called CoCoMa and was a combination
of coconut oil, mango oil, honey, and cannabis oil. It was branded around the idea
that one could use the oil for cooking, eating, or one could apply it to skin thus
relieving pain, providing relaxation, and being useful as a massage oil. Matt was
resonsible for co-creating the forumation and did the graphic design to create the
branding. Ultimately, while crafting products that showed promise in the market,
Organic Reaction Biotechnology turned it's view back to medical cannabis
cultivation.
As a co-founder and CTO of Compassionate Impact, Matt was pivotal in creating
a high-tech, sustainable, automation focused cultivation platform and strategy of
working out deals with Native American tribes to stimulate economic growth within
their communities while providing the California market with high-quality medical
cannabis. His passion and patience in explaining to the tribe the benefits of
cultivating medical cannabis using sealed greenhouses, hydroponics, and facility-
wide automation while fielding questions related to the impact the operation could
have for them was part of a successful effort to execute a set of contracts
defining the agreements and relationship between Compassionate Impact and the
tribe. His role within the company includes managing vendor relationships,
managing cultivation technology R&D, establishing and mangaging the company's
technology infrastructure, and working with other executives to strategize the
company's growth.
