Parliament considered a number of questions to the Commission (B5-0171/2001).

First part

Question 32 by Mrs Carlotti: Cooperation with Afghanistan


Mr Nielson, Member of the Commission, answered the question and a supplementary by Mrs Carlotti.

Question 33 by Mr Wijkman: Commission intentions and actions with regard to the global fund to
combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis
Mr Nielson answered the question and supplementaries by Mr Howitt and Mr David W. Martin.

Question 34 by Mr Andrews lapsed as its author was absent.

Question 35 by Mr Bernié: Vegetable protein crops in the Union


Mr Fischler, Member of the Commission, answered the question and a supplementary by Mr Bernié.

Question 36 by Mrs Izquierdo Rojo: Impact of the fisheries non-agreement with Morocco
Mr Fischler answered the question and supplementaries by Mrs Izquierdo Rojo and Mr Varela Suanzes-
Carpegna.

Question 37 by Mr Podestà: Bilingualism in Istria


Mr Kinnock, Vice-President of the Commission, answered the question and supplementaries by Mr Gaw-
ronski, deputising for the author, and Mr Rübig.

Mr MacCormick spoke on the conduct of Question Time.

The President announced that the questions which, due to lack of time, had not been answered
(questions 38 to 77) would receive written answers.

25. Work equipment ***II (debate)

The next item was the debate on the recommendation drawn up on behalf of the Committee on Employ-
ment and Social Affairs, on the common position adopted by the Council with a view to adopting a
European Parliament and Council directive amending Council Directive 89/655/EEC concerning the mini-
mum safety and health requirements for the use of work equipment by workers at work (2nd individual
directive within the meaning of Article 16(1) of Directive 89/391/EEC) (5766/2/2001  C5-0135/2001 
1998/0327(COD)) (A5-0156/2001).
