ABSTRACT

The aim of this research was to create a German "Receptionist" unit for Deustch
im Hotel. In this research, qualitative descriptive method is used. The process of
creating a lesson "Receptionist" for Deustch im Hotel is explained in the theory of
Plomp. This includes: (1) the observation phase, (2) the design phase, (3) the realization
or contribution phase, and (4) the test, evaluation, and revision phases.

In observation phase, data collection and problem identification are performed

first. In the design phase, the concept of the learning medium with the application
Blender was designed to create an interesting learning medium. Validation was
complete. This research is in the library of the Faculty of Language and Art State
University of Medan. From the above, it can be concluded that the creation of video
Animation Receptionist by application Blender as a learning medium with Plomp theory
is very good. And the lecturers can use the learning media. Hopefully, this learning
medium can be useful in enriching our knowledge to the science of the learning media,
especially for learners of German.

Keywords: creation, lesson unit, BlenderApplication, German In Hotel.

INTRODUCTION

Learning material is one of the components of a learning system, it plays an

important role in helping learners to achieve basic competencies and other competences.
In general, learning materials, skills and attitudes or values learners should learn.

2
Ningsih (2014: 245) says that the skills needed to complete the task. So it can be
concluded that skills consist of various activities to accomplish the task. According to
Gildner (2015: 2) Abilities to learn a foreign language are divided into two different
categories, namely oral language skills (listening coutomprehension and speaking skills)
and textual skills (reading comprehension and literacy). One of the goals of learning
German is that the learners can communicate orally and in writing. While learning, the
book serves as a source and learning tool. In class, lecturers can not out of from the
book as a source of learning media. Proper selection and use of the book as a source of
learning is a contributing factor to the success of learning.

German lessons require a book as a learning resource to support the learning

process. The difficulty that exists during the learning process is the low version in the
German language book. After the observation mainly printed media are still used, such
as the textbook, dictionary, etc. Otherwise, the students are bored often and are not
active in the class. Therefore, effective and practical media are needed in the learning
process. An interesting mediais the video. Videos is a media that and brings audiovisual
messages useful for learning. Video also has concepts, principles, procedures, theories
and Applications to promote the understanding of a learning material (Riyana in Efendi,
2017: 3).

A video can take students' attention and make the learning situation more
interesting (Rusman, 2012: 220). There are several types of video applications such as
Video Maker, Blender, Camtasia, the VideoPad, animated videos, and so on. In this
research, the writer was is interested in animation video. Animated videosare videos in
thetorm of moving images. This video is edited using the Blender application. The
application Blender is an application that can be used to create multiple files, for
example to create moving images and to make learning more entertaining. The use of
this application is also very simple and is still rarely used in the class so far.

The subject of this research is "Receptionist." The topic "Receptionist" is

discussed in the chapter "Deustch im Hotel." Deustch im Hotel is one of the subjects in

3
the German program at the Faculty of Language and Arts UNIMED The students have a
goal that they can work after graduation in a German hotel. An important role of the
receptionist, according to Sugiarto (1997), namely: (a) Representatives of the
management, (b) able to sell rooms and hotel facilities (c) Information Provider (d)
Provide Data (e) Problem Solver (f) Company Representative (g) Service Activities
Coordinator But in the learning process, understanding of this topic is still low and the
students still used the print book. The Students do not easily understand the material, so
it is very interesting to design this topic with interesting media.

Based on the above problems, it is important to create a practical medium to

increase the motivation of learners of German to learn. Because an interesting medium
is very important to create an interesting atmosphere in learning. Therefore, in this
study, the creation of a lesson with the help of the application Blender for Deustch im
Hotel on the subject of "receptionist" created. '

THEORETICAL AND LITERATURE REVIEW

A. Theoretical basic

In this chapter, the various researchers are presented with the theories and terms
that are important for this study.

1. The concept of creation

This investigation is a Research and Development (R & D) investigation. This

test method is used to make certain products and to test the effectiveres of these
products.Borg and Gall claim that research and development is a process or method to
develop products (Sugiyono, 2016: 28). In this research, the creation model used in this
research to create the subject "receptionist" is the theory used by Plomp (in Rochmad,
2012: 66).

4
a). The observation phase

The observation phase is the phase that needs analysis or problem analysis. The
important elements of this phase are the relevant information for investigation,
problem identification and also the collection of data.

b). The design phase

After the investigation phase follows the design phase, in this phase is to solve
the problem identified in the first phase. At this stage is to create the concept for
problem solving.

c). The realization phase or construction phase

The realization phase or construction phase is the phase in which the concept of
problem solving is realized. In this phase, the product is already completed. The
product is an audiovisual material.

d). The test, evaluation, and revision phases

This phase is the final step in creating an interesting product. At this stage, the
product is evaluated and validated. It is very important to know if the product is
already good enought and interesting or should be improved.

2. Teaching units

Thomlinson (1998: 11) notes that the lesson is used to learn languages. Materials
consist of textbook, workbook, cassette, CD-Rom, video, newspaper, and text that the
teacher writes on the blackboard. It can be said that the materials that the teacher uses in
the classroom present the language or inform about the language.

Bausch (1999: 11) states that the lesson is the central element of foreign
language learning. Amri (2013: 15) notes that a lesson teaches the knowledge, skills,
and attitudes that learners need to master. Learning materials have an important place in
the curriculum that the teacher needs to prepare for, so the goal of learning can be

5
achieved. The materials can be chosen to support the achievement of indicators in the
curriculum.

After that, the opinions above to improve the knowledge, ability, and attitudes of
learner. The central media in language learning is textbook, CD room, video, newspaper
and text.

3. The Topic "Receptionist"

At the university, the subject of receptionist is studied in Deutsch im Hotel

Curriculum. The subject Receptionist is learned in the sixth semester. The learning
process will be more interesting if the students have a practical media. That is why it is
very important to create interesting media for this topic.

The receptionist has an important role in Sugiarto (1997), namely: (a)

management representative, (b) able to sell rooms and hotel facilities (c) information
providers (d) store data (e) problem solver (f) Representative of the company (g)
coordinator of the service activities. According to J. Maertin (2004), the first person to
receive and greet every guest who comes to the hotel. While Bagyono (2006) says the
receptionist is a hotel officer whose main job is to serve guests, check-in and process
them in order to obtain the desired room in a pleasurable manner.

In this study, the tasks of the receptionist are explained and created in the form
of an animation video. The following points mention some tasks of receptionists:

a. Welcome the guests

b. Write the guest list

c. Give the key

d. Satisfy guests' needs

e. Provide information about the Hotel

6
f. Write information about the Hotel

The subjects in this investigation are from the book Deutsch im Hotel and
various relevant sources.

4. The Media

Media are any forms and channels used to transmit information or messages.
The word media comes from the Latin, is the plural of the word "medium". Restrictions
in the definition of media are very broad, but the authors limit the media to education,
namely the media used as tools and materials for learning activities. Miarso (2007: 457)
defines media as a technology for presenting, editing, sharing and distributing symbols
through a particular sensory range, informational information.

Rotheneder (2011: 29) It can generally said that the impact of digital media is
highly contradictory and fluctuates between "hypotheses of omnipotence and the
powerlessness of the media". Kerres postulates that the media offer does not directly
affect the learners, but is processed by them individually, which can be decisive for the
impact of the digital media.

5. The Application

Applications are computer programs that can assist people in performing

specific tasks. According to Jogiyanto (in Permani, 2014: 2), applications are the use in
a computer that orders the command or statement so the computer can process the input
to the output. Dhanta (in Permani, 2014: 2) claims that Applications are software
produced by a computer company to perform certain tasks, such as: Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Excel.

After the explanations can be summarized that the Application is a software

whose use in the computer helps people to work on the tasks.

7
6. The Blender Application

The Application Blender is a graphical 3D open-source computer software that

can be used to edit animated movies, visual effects, art, 3D models and game videos.
Hendi Hendratman (2017: 3) Blender is a free software / freeware and open / open
source, so anyone can change the look and function.

B. The Conceptual Foundations

Media are means in the learning process. In general, teachers usually use
textbooks as media and that is not effective because it makes lessons uninteresting.
Media are used in the learning process because good learning media can increase the
motivation and reassurance of learning German learners in the learning process.
Therefore, in this study, the creation of the "Receptionist" lesson for Deutsch im Hotel
is done with the help of the Application "Blender". The Application "Blender" is an
Application that can be edited with many files, for example, it can edit moving images
thus making the learning process more enjoyable. The use of this Application is very
simple and it is very rarely used in the classroom until now. The created materials are
created for students. The selected topic for this exam is "Receptionist". Because this
topic is very interesting to develop and it is learned in the 6th semester. And if the
student understands the topic well, then the student will have the opportunity to work in
Hotels with German culture after completing his studies. This is likely for students who
do not want to be educators.

This creation uses the model of Plomp. There are four steps in the investigation,
1) the phase of determination (2) the phase of design (3) the phase of realization or
construction (4) the phase of the test, the evaluation, and revision. The phases in the
theory of Plomp are very simple and take little time, because there are only four main
steps.

DISCUSSION

There were a number of issues when creating the Receptionist video Application
using the Blender Application, such as a problem when installing the Blender
Application on a laptop or computer, working on the Animation, converting text to
audio, and incorrect dialog sets. i) When installing Application Blender, the required
specification for a smooth Animation are 8GB RAM, 64bit quad core CPU and Graphic
2GB RAM. ii) The problem with working on the Animation Receptionist in the
Application Blender is that many features are hidden in the toolbar and the meaning or
the utility. the notes are very important to record the functions in the animation process.
iii) When converting from text to audio. What is needed is an Internet connection and an
Internet Download Manager (IDM), already installed on the computer. The IDM
function is for downloading text that has been changed to audio. Without IDM, the
audio can not be downloaded. iv) The Animation video Receptionist will be sent to the
expert for validation. If the expert corrects the video, there are some mistakes in writing
the sentence in the video. The validation results and suggestions from experts are
accepted and the animated video is repaired again. After that, the Animated Receptionist
video will be presented to German students.

The disadvantages of this application are: i) the device of this application is not
complete. ii) The screen of this application is distracted. iii) All process are done
manually.

The validation results of the animation video Receptionist consists of 4 dialogue

videos with 10 minutes 16 second, 159 sentences, 105 conversation, and capacity is 541
Mb. Out of 9 categories of evaluation aspects there is the grade 4 for 6 aspects and there
is the grade 3 for 3 aspects. So that the grade of the creation of a lesson unit with the
help of the application "Blender" for Deutsch im Hotel on the subject "Receptionist" is
very good.

9
RESULT

The result of this investigation is an Animation video Receptionist dialogue in

the form of a video. The videos consist of 4 dialogue videos (9 minutes 48 seconds). i)
Dialog 1, consists of 34 sentences, 22 conversation and lasts 2 minutes 3 seconds. The
capacity is 124 Mb. Ii) Dialog 2, consists of 39 sentences, 28 conversation and lasts 2
minutes 29 seconds. The capacity is 150 Mb. Iii) Dialog 3, consists of 39 sentences, 25
conversation and lasts 2 minutes 21 seconds. The capacity is 44.4 Mb. Iv) Dialog 4,
consists of 37 sentences, 26 conversation and lasts 2 minutes 55 seconds. The capacity
is 55.3 Mb.

In the future, the animation video receptionist as a learning medium especially

for the learners of German. This creation can be a good and useful way to understand
the work of the receptionist. The videos will be shown using the GOM player and VLC
Media Player.

CONCLUSSION
