Appendix 1: Lesson Plan (template)

LESSON PLAN Subject: Science

Trainee: Mohrah Majed Topic or Theme: Planning in the garden

Class: KG1-B Date & Duration: Nov 1st, 2019

Trainee Personal Goals

I am working on incorporating different strategies to use in the classroom and focus on linking
to the student prior knowledge.

Lesson Focus

Student will learn about part of plants and what do they need to grow.

Lesson Outcomes

 Checks the physical properties of plants and explains how the main parts of the plants help
in keeping it alive.
 Explain the importance of water, air, light, sand in the lives of living things: plants, animals
and humans.

Links to Prior Learning

Some of the student are familiar with planting with their families

21st Century Skills

Communication: students are talking during the lesson to the teacher and to their
colleagues.
Critical thinking: teacher will ask the student about part of plant in the beginning of the
lesson and in the end.
Creative: student will make a sprout house to keep observing every day and see what
happened to their plant.
Leadership: on each group there is a leader that help the student whenever the teacher is
busy
Technology literacy: I used computers to show a video how does the plant grow and what
does it need to be alive.
Key vocabulary

seeds, leaves, flower, stem, roots, soil.

Possible problems for learners Solutions to possible problems

Lack of language Use simple words and visuals
Struggling with fine motor skill
Prepare the items and use pencil grippers

Resources/equipment needed

Plant cards, board, cupcake liners, seeds, straw, thread, leaves, colour painting for children,
papers, plastic bag, crayon colours, real flowers, agriculture tools for kids.

student;
What do the roots do?
How do the roots help keep a plant
alive?
What is the purpose of the leaves?
What does the stem do?
What do flower do?
One by one the teacher will explain the
function of plant part.

The teacher will define the stem as the

part that carries water from the roots
to the other parts of the plant.
Explain that the flower helps the plants
reproduce, making seeds that will grow
into new plants. Explain the leaves by
telling the student it the air and light
that plant needs to live.

Reflection:
My lesson outcome was about part of plant and describe what does the plant needs to grow.
Some of the student are familiar with the plants they have it at home and some of them they
used to plant with their families, so I showed the student cards include part of plant and I
asked them to tell me the steps and the functions of each part and I explained it again to the
student to make sure everyone understand.

I used 6 centers so after that student can rotate, first center the student has different objects
to use them and create a full part plant. Second center, student will have part of plant cutting
paper and they must stick it and color it is using Q-tip painting technique. Third center, student
create sprout house using tissue and plastic bag and seed, so they will observe it every day and
draw what changed. Fourth center was for higher group who finish early, they had life cycle
plant so they should organize it in right way. In fifth center student had a flower sheet and they
colored it and draw what does a plant need, for this activity I had a special need student and I
gave him extra cutting paper and he know where these leaves belong to leaves or to the
flower. Last activity was in the garden I bought 25 flowers and I give each student one, so they
can plant it outside and look to flower function and recognize what the plants needs to grow.

I think the most important part for the students is doing the last activity, they were interested,
and they wanted to explore new things while planting their plants. I think this activity was
useful because they learned the subject and they had the time to implement it, so it is more
memoizable and understandable.

I chose this activity to be in the end because children need to apply and see live things to
understand and memorize after any explanation's agreed with Jean Piaget because he believe
on children learns from their environment because it supports their learning and develop their
skills. Furthermore, Levy Vygotsky does not believe on environment learning, he said that
children should be guided from the teacher which convince student learning as I think.

Every year I learn something from my teaching practice, for this year I learned that
differentiation activities and choose different areas to explain the outcome is much more
beneficial and helpful for the student, student like to change the center and move a lot so
that’s why I would like to rotate the class every 15 minutes so the student will not be bored
and they are learning more.

In my future I will focus on my previous mistakes and try to teach the student from the first
day about my rules and what do I use for my class, of course with my MST help.
