A PRELIMINARY REPORT I I t. i R. K. Chaturvedi, S. S. Sharma, Pareek, G. N. Purohit and Mahesh Datt r:- .1. ,tt Department. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. CV & AS, Bikaner - $a)U fiai) ir. ,l ) i Cervical mucus and uterine flush samples of 68 repeat breeding cows i i, were subjected to bacterial culture and examination for trichomonads. I -i cervical mucus samples'(9/68) revealed the presence of trichomonads. The : { presence of trichomonads was confirmed by culture of trichomonads in Tobies diphasic medium. Uteri were flushed using foley cathete's with ringus lactate and the flush recovered was subjected to bacterial culture 11 and 14 samples revealed the presence of aerobic and anaerobic whereas 43 samples were bacterially sterile. Metronidazole at the rate of 500m9 in ddw was administered l/U for 5 days from the day of estrus to 5 cows each showing trichomonads (Group l) and anaerobic microbes (Group ll) whereas Tinidazole was administered at the rate of 200 mg l/U for 5 days to 4 (Group tll) and 9 (Group lV) cases showing trichomonads and anaerobic bacteria. Samples o{ cervical mucus were again taken in subsequent estrus and those showing trichomonads were inseminated with frozen sem.en. The over all conception rates (1-2 services) were 45.5a/",50o/o,54.83% and 8.6% in Group l,ll,lll and lV respectively. The tichomonads disappeared early with the tridanizol treatment (Group lll) and the study proved that the imidazole derivatives can be used for the treatment. of trichomoniasis and anaerobic uterine infections of repeat breeding caltle.
