AP unveils 140-km metro rail network

The Amaravati Metro Rail
Corporation Limited (AMRC),

rail projects in Amaravati and
Visakhapatnam in Andhra
Pradesh, has prepared a
metro rail master plan for a
140-km-long metro network

to be executed in three phases. It will be taken up in a mixed-
model system including surface and underground. AMRC has
started the bidding process for 43 km of the metro rail project and

extended it to 46.42 km. However, the total length of the other two
corridors viz. Old Post O ice Junction – Gurudwara Junction and
Thatchipalem would be about 11 km; the second phase will cover (/component/banners/click/216.htm
a distance of 77.31 km and the third phase will cover 16.4 km
starting from Rushikonda to Bheemili. According to the Urban
Development Minister Botcha Satyanarayana, the tendering
process for the Vizag metro rail project will begin shortly. In the
second and third phase, the AMRC has also made provisions to (/component/banners/click/244.htm
operate trackless metro trains on the beachfront to enhance the
aesthetics of the beach stretch. The trackless metro train runs with
the help of magnetic strips and sensors.
