COURSE EVAL 2

6.2 Journal Reflection- Course Evaluation

Throughout the course of this class we have cover many topics regarding children with

exceptionalities. This information will be very beneficial in my career working with children.

there was a lot of useful information that was new to me as well as information that was prior

knowledge. We covered several of the Student Learning Outcome put in place by the university

as well. Everything that I have learned throughout completing this course has impacted the way I

view children with exceptionalities as well as helped me to progress as a professional in the child

development field.

Many assignments given required the use of critical thinking skill to apply to various

videos and documents. New information that was presented to me was the use of

accommodations and modifications. These are used when dealing with special needs children. As

a teacher, I can provide different materials to change how the child learns or what the child

learns. This will benefit the child who is having issues in the classroom but may not be able to

receive the special education resources for whatever reason. Also, covering the different health

issues children may face whether visible or not was very useful. I learned a lot of new

information about the deaf community and how they view themselves as well. I was able to

rejuvenate my knowledge of American Sign Language as well. I learned new words as well as

the alphabet again.

The student learning outcomes that were addressed in this course include: PSLO 6 and USLO 3.

These are APA Formatting and ECD Writing Skills and Context Knowledge. All of the

assignments given were to be done in APA format as well as using college level writing.
COURSE EVAL 3

After completing this course I have a better understanding of the role I can play in

children lives. Not all children with learning disabilities get the same level of assistance outside

of the classroom so as a teacher I have an obligation to the child to assist in any way to make

their educational experience a success. I know the different resources and steps general education

teachers can take to help their students with various levels of learning disabilities succeed.

This course has helped me grow as a professional in the childhood education field by

providing insight into the different disabilities and resources available in the educational setting

to help assist children with these whether they have an IEP or not. Knowing that there are routes

for general education teachers to take to cater to the needs of the children on a more personal

level is a great asset.
