1 m and thermal conductivity
k = 20 W/mK has uniform heat generation q = 0.35 MW/m3. It is
insulated on one side and the other side is subjected to
convection heat transfer with a fluid at 90 oC flowing with a heat
transfer coefficient of 550 W/m2K. Determine the temperature
distribution in the wall by finite difference considering grid
spacing of 0.025 m.

7. For fully developed laminar flow through two parallel plates, the
governing differential equation is given by
2 u 1 dp
y 2 dx
Draw a suitable diagram that explains this flow and write the
boundary conditions. Find the analytical solution. Discretize the
governing differential equation for numerical solution by taking 4
equal divisions. Finally arrange the linear equations containing
unknowns in matrix form.
8. Derive the Vorticity‐Transport equation using the two
dimensional x, and y momentum equation.

Section C
(Answer any TWO from the following (10×2 =20 Marks))
9. Consider fully developed laminar flow through a circular duct of 8
cm diameter. Write the governing differential equation and the
corresponding boundary conditions clearly. Convert the
governing differential equation and the corresponding boundary
conditions into dimensionless form by considering suitable
dimensionless parameters. Formulate the problem by
discretization for solving numerically by considering grid spacing
of 1 cm. Write the resultant linear equations with unknowns in
matrix form. Assume suitably if required.
10. Consider a one dimensional steady state fluid flow with slug
velocity u = U throughout the flow (see Fig. 3). Temperature T = Ti
at the inlet and temperature T = To at the outlet. Write the
governing differential equation for the computational domain and
discretize it for numerical solution. Also use first order upwind
(i.e. upstream‐differencing) for discretization, considering 5 equal
divisions convert the discretized form of the equation into the set
of linear equations in matrix form. Explain the limitations of first
order upwind scheme used above.
