Explanatory Note
(This does not form part of the notification, but is intended to indicate its general
purport.)
Section 29 of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2000
(Central Act 56 of 2000) and Rule 19 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and protection of
Children) Rules, 2007 issued by Government of India empower the State
Government to constitute Child Welfare Committee for every district for exercising
the powers and discharging the duties conferred on them by the said Act and
Rules. The Government have decided to constitute Child Welfare Committees for
the remaining seven districts namely Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram,
Kozhikod, Kannur and Kasargode districts.
This notification is intended to achieve the above object.

Explanatory Note

Section 29 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 (
Central Act 56 of 2000), and rule 8 of the Kerala Juvenile justice( Care and
Protection of Children) Rules, 2003, empower the State Government to constitute
Child Welfare Committees for each District or a group of Districts for exercising the
powers and discharging the duties conferred on them by the said Act and Rules. The
Government have decided to reconstitute Child Welfare Committes in six Districts
namely, Thiruvananthauram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and
Ernakulam on completion of the term of three years of the Committee appointed as
per notification issued under G.O. (P) No. 03/2008/SWD dated 16th January 2008 and
published as S.R.O No. 69/08 in the Extra ordinary Kerala Gazette No. 169 dated
21.1.2008.
