my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in teaching
education. I am currently enrolled in the teaching credential program
at Cal State Fullerton. I have been coaching soccer at the competitive
club, high school, and college levels for the last five years. I enjoy
watching all types of sports such as basketball, football, baseball, etc. Commented [CM1]: Rationale: It is important to give the
parents and students a little insight about me, might get
more into detail here but for now I will keep it short and
The goal of the Physical Education program is to develop physically brief.
The major emphasis in 7th grade will be on risk activities and decision making
opportunities, which will include activities that develop a sense of inclusion and social

that teach the concept of spin and rebound, will be included. Class instruction will
include, but will not be limited to: dance, fencing, wellness, fitness, racquet
activities, circus arts, and golf.
The major emphasis in 8th grade will be on solving problems and figuring strategies
as a team or group. Emphasis will be placed on team activities and will include
comparisons of offensive and defensive techniques and principles of rotation used in
these sports. Class instruction will include, but not limited to: volleyball, fitness,
wellness, dance, scooterborads, ultimate frisbee and lacrosse. Commented [CM3]: Rationale: Parents and students
should know ahead of time what the activities are that they
will be doing. This will help them by preparing themselves

We will also hold an OPEN HOUSE at the beginning of the year to review and
answer any questions you may have! Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
1. Participation: Every student is expected to dress out daily and participate fully
to the best of his or her ability. Commented [CM5]: Rationale: Students are expected to
participate and dress out, dressing out is also key in
ensuring safety by having students wear comfortable
2. Medical Excuses: Excuses from physical education classes due to an illness or clothes that will allow them to move safe and freely.
injury will be approved by the physical education teacher when presented with
a written request from the parent or guardian. Emails and phone calls will not
be accepted. Long-term excuses beyond three days MUST be written by a doctor
and are to be cleared through the attendance office. An activity excuse form
must be filled out by the doctor and can be found on-line on the teachers’
websites or in the front office. Students excused from activity will be given a
written assignment on physical education and wellness related topics with
questions to complete. Excessive parent/guardian excuse notes may result in
parent/teacher conference.
4. Weather and Air Quality Concerns: The physical education staff will monitor
the weather and air quality each day, and physical activities will be adjusted to
ensure the health and safety of all students.
6. P.E. clothes (socks included) are to be taken home at the end of every week.
They need to be laundered and brought back clean on the first day of the
new week.
7. Loan clothes are provided for students who forget their own uniforms.
Points will be deducted from the student’s citizenship grade after the first
offense. Each quarter the student start with no points deducted. When students
borrow loan clothing, they must provide their ID card and/or sign out for the
clothes. Students must return loan clothes after class. The P.E. department
washes loan clothes daily to ensure clothes are clean for student use. Students
are able to improve this grade by helping with the recycle program or other
service oriented activity.
8. In order for students to be safe during movement exercises and activities,
we require that all physical education clothes be maintained and worn
appropriately. In addition, students with long hair must have it pulled back during
class time. Examples include: hairbands, bobbypins, and headbands. For hygiene
purposes, students are only to wear P.E. uniforms during class. Physical
education clothes are not to be worn to any other classes or other school
activities unless told to do so by their physical education teacher or an
administrator. Students may not lend their clothes or borrow other student’s
clothes at any time. Sagging shorts, ripped shirts, nylons, bicycle shorts, or pants
may NOT be worn in place of or under P.E. clothes at any time.
EVALUATION AND GRADING POLICIES:
Grading
A: 90-100%
B: 80-89%
C: 70-79%
D: 60-69%
F 60% and below.
The purpose of the Pacer is to teach the students how to pace themselves to be
able to attain a certain time on an individual run, whether it be the mile test or
their cardiovascular homework. The students are trained over a 6-week period
building up their endurance and knowledge of pacing.
After the 6-week training period, the pacer grade will be based off of the
student’s individual best mile time. It is graded in 15 second intervals. This grading
process is to ensure that each student is giving 100% personal effort. If the
student runs a faster time than their original best score they will be awarded with
(2 points) of extra credit.
Rubric-
A++ = Faster than their best score-12 out of 10 points 120% (Example 7:59 and
previous pacer was an 8:02)
A+/A within 15 seconds - 0-15 =10-9 points
B – 16-30 seconds = 8 points
C - 31-45 seconds = 7 points
D - 46-59 seconds = 6 points
F - 60+ seconds = 5 points
LATE WORK:
Cardio-logs and Vocab-logs (weekly homework) will be accepted one day late for
half credit. After that one-day grace period, the assignment will not be accepted.
Because it is an on-going assignment, the logs will be due upon a student’s return
from an absence and the one-day grace period will be in effect from the day the
student returns. Classwork will also be accepted late one day for half credit.
After that one day, the assignment will not be accepted. If a student is absent, Commented [CM7]: Rationale: I have always believed
they have one week to make up that absence and must schedule an appointment sometimes things happen for a reason, therefore students
can turn in a late assignment for half credit. Anything after
with a teacher to complete that make-up. that, the assignment will not be accepted.
CITIZENSHIP:
Class conduct of a student will affect his/her citizenship grade. Class conduct
may also affect the academic grade if a student has to be removed from an activity
because of poor behavior.
Failure to observe the following rules will have a negative effect on citizenship:
1. Gum chewing
2. Poor attitude or sportsmanship
3. Engaging in horseplay before, during, or after class
4. Wearing jewelry to class
5. Not following the locker room rules
6. Not having proper physical education clothes/loaner clothes usage
7. Not having proper materials for class
8. Showing disrespect to any instructor, classmate, or teammate
9. Tardies
10. Sagging shorts
11. Bullying
12. Breaking any school rule not covered above
13. Not tying hair back out of face
LOCKERS:
Each student will be issued a locker. Keeping the combination secret is VERY
IMPORTANT. THE SCHOOL AND STAFF ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE for lost or
stolen items in the locker room. Large amounts of cash, jewelry, or other valuables
should not be brought to school or kept in the lockers. Students should not tamper
with the lock in any way or leave the combination pre-set for their own safety of
personal belongings. Consequences will be given if this rule is broken.
The following rules will be strictly enforced in the locker rooms. VIOLATIONS OF
THESE RULES WILL RESULT IN THE TERMINATION OF LOCKER ROOM
PRIVLEDGES.
1. Glass bottles or containers of any kind are not allowed in the locker rooms.
2. Food of any kind is prohibited in the locker rooms. Water bottles are allowed.
3. Running or horseplay will not be allowed in the locker rooms.
4. Immediately after dressing, students are to go outside to their designated
area. Loitering inside the locker rooms is not allowed and could result in
detention.
5. Throwing items across the room is strictly prohibited.
6. Standing on the benches or sitting on the lockers is a safety hazard and is not
permitted.
7. Spraying of perfume, body spray (AXE) or hair spray is prohibited in the
locker rooms.
8. Wetting hair or washing hands in the drinking fountains in the locker rooms
is not allowed.
9. Tampering with another students' locker or belongings will not be tolerated.
10. Any defacing of the mirrors, lockers and/or benches is considered vandalism
and will result in detention and/or suspension for defacing school property.
11. Students are not allowed in the P.E. offices or equipment rooms, unless
approved by an instructor.
12. Students are not to leave the blacktop area until the passing bell rings.
Students MAY NOT wear any kind of jewelry during physical education. This is a
safety and liability rule, and it helps prevent jewelry losses. The only exceptions to
this rule are stud earrings, Medic Alert bracelets and fitness bands. If students
choose to wear jewelry to school, we strongly urge them to put their jewelry in
a container with a lid and lock it in their lockers. When students leave their
jewelry out, it tends to end up missing. It is very important that the student check
his or her locker to be sure it is locked.
We hope all students will have a fulfilling experience, not only in our program, but
throughout their educational experience here at (Future School).
Sincerely,
(Future School) Physical Education Staff

Comments/Questions:
Dear parent/guardian:
Studies show that music can boost a person’s endurance by 15%. The (Future
School) Physical Education department is working on improving student endurance
so that they will have a happy, healthier lifestyle. In order to optimize their
running endurance, we would like to give your student the chance to work out with
their music device (iPod, MP3 player or phone). You will need to give your
permission for the student to have the device at school and to be used during
physical education ONLY.
The Physical Education Teachers, (Future School) and the (Future District) are not
responsible for lost or stolen devices. The student is responsible for the device at
all times. The student may only use the device during physical education class on
specified days. A carrier is necessary so that the student will not be distracted
by the device during the exercise. Headphones must always be used with the
device .
If you give permission for your son/daughter to bring their music device to school
to be used for improvement of their endurance run, please sign the permission slip
below and have your son/daughter return it to their physical education teacher.
Sincerely,
(Future School) Physical Education Department
