● For scaling the YouTube autocomplete process, use KeywordTool.io
(we are using now)
● Look at your competitors keywords: focus on channels that are about
your size, find the most popular videos & research on keywords in the
titles & descriptions
● Dig deeper than a title & description. Look at a video’s tag in the page’s
HTML or use Chrome extension & tool that is called VidIQ, which will
help to get list of keyword ideas & will show the competitor’s videos’

The most important
piece of metadata.
TITLE
ub e S E O
You T
The title summarizes
what the entire video is
about.
| PICSART 2018
● The title should be descriptive, compelling, clear and concise.
● Include the major keywords for which you want to the video to rank. Try to place the
best keywords in the beginning of your title.
● Include an eye-catching words: OMG, WOW, UH, YUP etc..
● Using the numbers in the title can boost CTR significantly.
● YouTube has about 100 characters to label the video, but when the title appears in
Google Search results, it will only show about 66 characters of it. So we should limit
the title to 60-65 characters to help keep it from getting cut off.
● Don’t use misleading title that tricks people into clicking. YouTube knows if the title
accurately represents the video’s content or not. So try to avoid using clickbait &
optimize the title for CTR.
● Use titles & thumbnails that work together!

DESCRIPTION ranking in YouTube

Yo u T search.

| PICSART 2018
● Focus on the first 2-3 sentences. YouTube’s algorithm puts more attention on
keywords that are located in the first 2-3 sentences of the description.
● The first 2-3 lines of your description are important for your video’s CTR, because
they appear in the search results.
● It is ok to Include the same keyword 2-4 times in the description.
● Try to start the description with the benefit someone will get from watching the
video.
● Don’t add links to social media profiles or the YouTube channel in the beginning of
the description, they don’t make the video look appealing & you will lose keywords.
● Use 100% unique description for each and every video.
● Before finishing the description, find a popular videos on your topic. Then, research
& copy some of the same keywords from their description in your description.
● The structure can be: 2-3 sentences (with keywords); ~100 words detailed info; call
to action phrases; links. Totally the description can contain about 250 words.

search algorithm

| PICSART 2018
● First tag is the most targeted keyword. Make sure that the first tag is the
exact keyword that the video should want to rank for.
● Don’t overload the video with tags, it will only hurt your rankings.
● Use TagsYouTube & VidIQ to get the list of related tags for YouTube
videos.
● Use broad & focused tags (about 3 words), it can help YouTube to see the
important context about the video (like “edit photos”; “create stickers”;
“cutout tool”; “object remove tool”, etc…).
● Don’t overboard the video with tags. Use about 5-8 tags that describe
your videos. (Youtube allows to use up to 30 characters per tag, character
limit across all tags is about 400 characters)

● Use approximately 7-10 keywords/tags
● Research on channel keywords that the competitors use
● The first 100-150 characters of the channel description is most

WATCH TIME
Youtube: “The longer you can keep people watching on YouTube because of your content, the
more your content may get surfaced.”

● Watch time is amount of time people have spent watching your video on YouTube. YouTube has
confirmed that it is an important part of their search & discovery algorithm.
● YouTube says that the first 15 seconds are important, so it can make or break your entire video
● Videos with high Audience Retention (the percentage of video that people watch) scores can
increase the visibility on YouTube’.
● Change camera angles, visual styles, music & anything that keeps your video fresh & interesting.
● Preview what’s coming up later on in the video
