a) Indicate the main considerations to be made in choosing the site for a shipyard and
discuss the principal factors affecting the layout of that site for efficient ship
production.

b) Describe fully the ‘Zone Outfitting’ approach, defining clearly what is meant by a
zone and indicating the main goals, the three basic stages and the principal
advantages of this method.

a) Describe fully the handling and transportation of materials and units within a
shipyard and provide more details on two of them

b) Discuss the main technological characteristics, advantages and limitations of the


following welding processes:

a) Describe the main features of Group Technology and list the potential benefits and
drawbacks

b) What is the shipbuilding Systems-oriented Work Breakdown Structure (SWBS)


and Product-oriented Breakdown Structure (PWBS)? Provide an outline of its key
components
