THE 8 ELEMENTS

NOT SUCCESSFUL:

1) Health education:
It is, however, worth noting the fact that health education interventions are frequently under
resourced and often fail to meet acceptable theoretical and professional standards; careful
scrutiny of programme design is, therefore, essential before drawing conclusions about
effectiveness and efficiency.9 The success of the programmes discussed below are, in no small
way, due to their meeting minimum design standards.
2) Adequate food supply and proper nutrition:
The Promotion of food supply and proper nutrition in the families and in the community in
general is a cornerstone in fighting against ill-health. Under nutrition and micronutrients
deficiencies mostly in women in reproductive age and children largely contribute to a global
burden of disease. The leading causes: nature, war, poverty, lack of agricultural infrastructure.

3) Adequate supply of safe water and basic sanitation:

2.1 billion people globally have no t safely managed water. 2.3 billion still do not have basic
sanitation services. For example places in Africa still lack these services.
4) Provision of essential drugs
There are more than 16,000 registered medicines in the country but 70 percent filipinos
have no access to essential drugs.
5) Maternal and child health in family:
Maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates, mostly in resource limited countries, are still
high and more action is needed to tackle this public health issue. Women and children’s deaths
are attributed to the causes which in many cases are preventable and avoidable through
collaboration of various stakeholders
SUCCESSFUL

1) Immunization vs major diseases:

Global vaccination coverage remains at 85 percent with no significant changes
during the past few years.
Philippines: Eradicated polio in 2000 and eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus
in 2017.
2) Prevention and control of endemic diseases:
Regular screening and appropriate treatment of these diseases done by skilled healthcare
workforce with appropriate health technology are key to the control of them. This has been
successful as clinical studies are carried out to innovate new drugs almost every year.
3) Appropriate treatment of common diseases and injuries:

This component of primary healthcare deals with the treatment of common diseases
and injuries that members of the community suffer. However a few countries still fail
manage this and trying to still improve with the amenities available.
