ING 204 - Academic English II Course Description

Course Description
ING 204 aims to equip the students with the skills they need to succeed in their future
academic and professional careers.

Course Objectives
At the end of the semester, students will be able to:
- express themselves writing unified and coherent expository and persuasive essays of 350-
500 words using authentic sources,
- appropriately synthesize information from the various sources they have exploited and
integrate it into their own writing,
- develop their oral presentation skills.

Course Outcomes

Students will gain a deeper knowledge of the material they are presented with, both in and
out of the classroom. They will be able to apply the skills they have learned to new situations
with materials they have never seen before.

PLEASE REMEMBER!

1. Attendance is mandatory. Those who miss more than 18 class hours will automatically
fail. (As this is an Academic English Course, class work will be important. You can’t get a
good grade without coming to class regularly.)
2. Punctuality is important.
3. Participation is important and remaining silent in class will be strictly discredited.
4. All assignments should be turned in on time.
5. Keep your syllabus - it is your complete guide to rules and expectations for the course, you
will be expected to know what the syllabus contains.

PLAGIARISM

Intentionally stealing someone else’s ideas is a severe academic offense. Your teacher has
the right to refuse to grade your HW if s/he suspects any form of plagiarism.

COMPUTER SKILLS

All GAZI University students should have familiarity with word processing. Any piece of
writing that you produce for this course (excluding In-class drafts of paragraphs and essay)
needs to be written on the computer. Please familiarize yourself with the free computer
centers in the Faculty building.

Important Reminder: Computer problems are NOT an excuse for late work! Therefore you
should plan ahead, save your documents often, and always keep back-up copies on your
second disk
