High purity rebaudioside A (rebiana) is generally recognized as safe (GRAS). Cargill submitted a GRAS notification to
the FDA on May 15, 2008 as part of a voluntary program. It is listed on FDA’s website as GRN No. 253.
The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has evaluated the safety of steviol glycosides. In
June 2008, a permanent acceptable daily intake (ADI) was established for steviol glycosides, including rebaudioside A.
Labeling: rebiana
