JOB TITLE: Resuscitation Co-ordinator

HOURS OF WORK: 37 .5 hours

REPORTS TO: Senior Resuscitation Coordinator

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Resuscitation Service Manager

JOB SUMMARY

• One post will be primarily based at the Princess Royal University Hospital Farnborough Kent
and one post primarily based at King’s College Hospital Denmark Hill. There will be cross site
working for both posts

• To assist the lead and senior resuscitation coordinators to facilitate the provision of a highly
efficient resuscitation service

• To lead/participate in resuscitation training and education in resuscitation practices in


conjunction with the senior resuscitation team. Contribute to the planning, organisation and
implementation of training programmes in all aspects of resuscitation to staff and students
within the Trust.

• To be a clinical member of the resuscitation team, providing expertise to the team, and
where necessary lead the team to ensure best evidence based practice and outcome to the
patient

• To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner in promoting Resuscitation skills and
standards supported by current scientific guidance from the Resuscitation Council (UK)

• Provide professional advice to all areas of the organisation concerning resuscitation issues,
including policy development, training, clinical governance, and equipment issues

• To participate in quality improvement audits both locally and nationally (National


Cardiac Arrest Audit)

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical
• Provide expert advice and clinical support to the resuscitation teams in the field of clinical
resuscitation practice and management of deteriorating patients.

• Provide strong and effective leadership in emergency situations

• To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner in promoting Resuscitation skills and
standards supported by current scientific guidance from the Resuscitation Council (UK).

• Demonstrate clinical competence and confidence in using specialist knowledge, equipment


and skills in a variety of clinical settings (intraosseous insertion, assisting with advanced
airway management, mechanical devices for CPR)

• Provide support and expert professional advice regarding decisions for ‘do not attempt
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (DNACPR) and treatment escalation plan according to Trust
policy

• Attend when possible and on duty all resuscitation calls supporting, facilitating and
debriefing the team and family as appropriate.

• Ensure members of the resuscitation teams are fully conversant and competent in
appropriate resuscitation techniques

• Participate in the audit of resuscitation equipment/risk management to ensure standards are


being maintained in clinical areas

• To be accountable for own continued academic and professional development. Promote an


innovative, progressive attitude and take opportunities to sustain, improve knowledge and
clinical/ professional competence
Education/Training

• To lead/participate in resuscitation training and education in resuscitation practices in


conjunction with the senior resuscitation team. Contribute to the planning, organisation and
implementation of training programmes in all aspects of resuscitation to staff and students
within the Trust.

• Create a positive learning environment through the provision of support and advice to staff
in clinical areas and those attending training courses

• Deliver a wide variety of training courses to clinical staff at all of levels including: In Hospital
Resuscitation, Anaphylaxis Training, Immediate Life Support (ILS), Acute Life Threatening
Events Recognition and Treatment (ALERT), Dental Emergencies and bespoke training as
required. You will ensure outcome based assessments/key standards are achieved and staff
debriefed as appropriate

• Ensure all resuscitation training is based on the latest evidence and adheres to Resuscitation
Council(UK) and Trust guidelines

• If not already to work towards becoming an ALS Instructor

• To work towards becoming an instructor in Paediatric Immediate Life Support and have a
willingness to work towards achieving European Paediatric Advanced Life support (EPLS) and
Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) instructor.

• To be fully conversant with the operational resuscitation policy for King’s College Hospital
and all equipment used clinically and for training

• To assist in the coordination and planning of Nationally accredited courses in resuscitation

• There will be the opportunity to lead/participate in Trust Wide projects and research
innovations as directed by the Resuscitation Service Manager

Managerial and Personal Skills


• To have good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to different groups of people

• Ability to organise and plan workload effectively

• Assist in maintaining stock, controlling stock levels and liaise with procurement as required

• Coordinate and produce reports as required and presenting findings at the Resuscitation
Committee, deteriorating patient group and other Trust meetings as required
• Attend and contribute to Trust wide meetings and deputise/present on behalf of the
Resuscitation Service

• To participate in the National Cardiac Arrest Audit for the Trust to help collect, input the data
and to present reports to the Resuscitation Committee, Deteriorating Patient and Critical
Care outreach meetings

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages

• A flexible approach to working patterns is required and longer hours will be required on
national courses.

• Physically able to cope with the demands of the role including the pace required to attend
emergency calls, participating in clinical resuscitation, preparing for courses/nationals
courses which requires moving resuscitation manikins and other equipment to the site of the
training.

Professional
• To ensure all data is handled and used confidentially according to NHS Records Management
Code of Practice and the Trust’s Record Management Policy

• To demonstrate a professional approach to work and act in accordance with KCH and NMC
Code of professional conduct at all times

• A uniform is worn when any part of the day may involve clinical duties
