The zero footprint multi-standard

main-remote base station
RBS 6601 is the zero footprint main-
remote base station belonging to
the highly successful RBS 6000
family of state-of-the-art, multi-
standard base stations. RBS 6601
is optimized to deliver high radio
performance for a wide range of
applications. The main-remote
solution provides the same high-
performance capabilities as macro
base stations but with lower power
consumption and less site require-
ments. Together with the other
members of the RBS 6000 family,
the RBS 6601 features full capability
GSM/WCDMA/LTE.

The main-remote RBS 6601 con-

sists of an indoor main unit (MU)
and outdoor radio units connected
to the main unit through optical
feeder cables.

The connected radio units can ei-

ther be remote radio units (RRUs) or
antenna-integrated radio units (AIR
units).

The RRU is designed to allow

installation close to an antenna,
eliminating feeder losses. The small,
lightweight units are easily carried
to site and offer easy and discreet
installation where space and access
are decisive issues. The RRU exists
in two different types, the first one
supporting one transmitter branch
and the other one supporting two
transmitter branches (MIMO/Tx
diversity). An RRU can support one
or a combination of two of the stan-
dards GSM, WCDMA and LTE.
The AIR unit is similar to that of the
RRU except that all tower-mounted
equipment for a single cell is
merged into a single unit.
This unit replaces the antenna,
RRUs, tower-mounted amplifiers
(TMAs) or antenna system con-
troller (ASC), and feeder jumpers.
AIR can also act as a regular passive
antenna on a second frequency band
and at the same time be an integrated
radio/antenna on the first band. One
AIR unit can handle one frequency
band in one sector. An AIR unit can
support one or a combination of two of
the standards GSM, WCDMA and LTE.
Installed in any 19 inch rack
The main unit can be installed in any 19 inch rack in a
small shelter, an equipment room, or in a site power
system (as shown in the picture).
The RRU can be installed indoor or outdoor on poles,
walls, or in a tower. The AIR unit is installed in the usual
antenna location.
RBS 6601 suits a wide range of applications, such as
rooftop sites, metro and tunnel coverage, in-building
solutions and highway coverage.
The minimal feeder loss reduces or eliminates the
need for tower mounted amplifiers, thereby reducing
capital expenditure.

RBS 6601 suits medium to large multi-standard ca-

pacity requirements in the most common frequency
bands.
Thanks to the separation of the hardware into small,
lightweight units, possible to carry to site, a main-
remote solution is perfect for sites where any distur-
bance caused by installation work must be kept to a
minimum or for locations where space or access is
limited. Main-remote solutions are also ideal for spe-
cifically tailored coverage, because the highly flexible
