Hello and welcome to the

2019-2020 school year!

My name is Mr. Gore. I am excited to be your child’s first grade teacher this school year.

I was born in Seattle, WA. I received my Master’s’s Degree through City

University in 2006. While this is my first year with Clark County School District, this is
my 13th year teaching. I have always loved helping children and watching them grow and
learn. I cannot wait to watch your child become a better student academically and socially,
preparing them for second grade.

I have 3 talented daughters and a son ranging from 6 years old to 20 years old. I
live with my wife whom I met while teaching in Thailand, and my daughter “Cookie” who will,
also be in first grade this year. We are both excited to be joining the Sunrise Acres
Family.

As parents, you play a very important role in your child’s education. Your attitude
towards the curriculum, homework, and school in general impacts your child daily. As you
talk to your child and supervise his/her homework on a daily basis, you will lead him/her
towards a successful year and future! I look forward to an exciting year and the
opportunity to get to know you and your child.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate
to contact me by email at gorejm@nv.ccsd.net .

Sincerely,

Mr. Gore
The Sunrise 6

The following are 6 rules that we have created at Sunrise Acres Elementary
School. Please ensure that you talk with your child about these rules and how
he/she can follow them each and every day inside and outside of the classroom.
These rules are in no particular order, but they are aligned to our 7 habits and
paradigms

1. Make eye contact. When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him/her at
all times.
2. Always say thank you when given something. If you do not say it, the item
may be taken back.
3. When in a line, walk in a single file with arms folded in front of you. Always
face forward. There will be absolutely no talking.
4. No matter the circumstances, always be honest.
5. While you are with a substitute teacher or any staff member, you will obey
the same rules that you follow when your teacher is with you.
6. Keep hands, feet, and negative comments to yourself.

Reward Policy

Students will receive classroom table points as a reward for good behavior inside
and outside of the classroom. At the end of each week, the table with the most
points will receive 1 item from our treasure box. In addition, students will receive
praises, stickers, choice of activity pass, lunch with the teacher, and Fun Friday.

Schoolwide consequences

The following are consequences that will be implemented in each grade level for
negative behavior. If you have any questions regarding the behavior, please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Violation 1- Name on board

Violation 2- 1st check mark and teacher choice of consequence (example: loss of
privilege in the classroom).

Violation 3- 2nd check mark and 10 minutes of recess loss

Violation 4- 3rd check mark and all of recess loss (student completes a “Think It
Through” sheet) and silent lunch

Violation 5- 4th check mark the student will receive an office referral

Student Management Policy

In order to have an effective, smooth running classroom, there must be a set of

rules and consequences established. I strongly believe that every child has the
right to be treated equally in a safe learning environment. In order to achieve this,
I believe that there needs to be mutual respect between the teacher and the
student. I know that each child can behave appropriately inside and outside of the
classroom. I expect each child to respect and follow our classroom rules. Please
discuss the choices your child makes each day and praise him/her for the positive
behavior smiles or discuss better choices that could be made when needed.

Celebrations

Although we love to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions throughout

the year, due to some severe allergies and other CCSD regulations, please contact
us prior to the date. Your child may distribute treats at the end of the school day.
Absolutely NO treats with nuts or nut products should be brought in for any
celebration. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep all the children safe!

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned each week on Monday and should be completed and returned
on Friday. If you or your child does not understand the homework, please inform
me, so I can review the instructions. Homework is extremely important for
students because it reinforces what they are currently learning in the classroom.

Grading Policy

You will receive monthly progress reports on your child’s academic and behavior
progress. This progress report must be signed and returned. Students who are not
meeting satisfactory progress will receive an unsatisfactory progress report prior
to report cards. Students will receive report cards twice a year at the end of each
semester. Report cards will be issued in January and May. If you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free to contract me.

Attendance

Attendance is very important to ensure that each student is receiving the proper
education. If your child is absent for any reason, please send a note upon his/her
return to school. Your prompt attention on this matter is appreciated.
